He wanted to go to war and when he got it he didn’t want it and now speaks against it but his body is destroyed.

My favourite book of personal essays is 'Meditations from a Movable Chair'; I can't read 'Liv Ullmann in Spring' without tears welling up in my eyes. ( )See if you can.) I love that Andre (if I may; his writing makes you feel like you knew him) was a man of deep Catholic faith; and how perfectly God used him as a vehicle of his loving grace. The concept of grace was very important to him❤

Mr. Bruen is one of my two favorite authors. James Lee Burke is the other. If you are unfamiliar with Ken Bruen's books, do yourself a favor and as soon as you finish reading my comment log to Amazon and order a couple of Mr. Bruen's books. It doesn't matter which ones you order because they are all great. I mean GREAT! You can thank me later.

He left the Communist Party in 1956 at great personal cost. He had just been through HUAC and been blacklisted and when he left the party he was labeled a sell-out. The Communist Party loved the Communist Party. He loved America.

He was blacklisted after the HUAC hearings and when the secret Khrushchev letter came out he quit the Communist party (1957) because it was the right thing to do. And he was shunned by his friends on the left. In effect he was blacklisted by the left and the right. It was their loss. He was a patriotic American liberal and we need more like him.

I read the book as a teenager when it first came out shortly after the Vietnam war ended so many years ago. Since then I've participated in 8 wars in various roles. It's odd how the title captures a deeper truth: a spiritual war between good and evil. Like all wars this spiritual war will end. I hope it ends soon. I am tired of war.

The act of writing and making public is testimony to those who have experienced war that they are not alone. It is a gift and partial education to those who have not experienced war, that they might better understand the cost to those who have sacrificed.

Mary Renault did not just write about Ancient History as you would experience reading the works of Robert Graves or Steven Pressfield.......Renault channeled the Ancient World as if she were overtaken by a Muse who spoke through her.....

I am a graduate student in a library science program and I am listening to the book to talk about the multicultural aspects of it. I chose this book off of a list of other books to analyze and I can honestly say it's an amazing book. As a grown woman, it has made me tear up more times than I am willing to admit. I think his book represents a Young male perspective. So yes, there are going to be a few things that his character might say That feel a little bit inappropriate, but it's the perspective of a young man and other young men and other young people can relate to his perspective and those who cannot relate will learn powerful lessons

I really like how they talk about their father with such deep respect and love. Such a precious person deserves to live forever, unfortunately, he lives only in his books, because he is still very popular and well-liked. Thank you, Mr.Herriot...while reading your books I felt to be part of your family.

Basically, you are reminiscing your past history with the war effort. On the norm, everyone scatters their interpretation on this topic on noting the preempted situation,; in hindsight, it revolves around onto another war effort but this time current. Its just the way things go...hm,mm was sentenced to death by a Kentucky jury
