Further proof for those who need it that Gary's as tasty and authoritative with sweet-stinging classic blues as the wirier twangier Beefheartier stuff some of us may know better...and that the term "guitar master" is not thrown around casually when applied to Gary Lucas.

From the title I was expecting a little Doors "Morrison Hotel" action shouting out the underrated Robbie Krieger but I will never complain about Gary on the Dan-o! Great Philip Petit story too :)

Hello how long did it take to learn Flavor Bud Living from the original. Did band members write out scores will there ever be a Beefheart songbook.?
@garylucas5558Ай бұрын
I learned this piece in a month from John French's original much slower version which was on the (then) unreleased "Bat Chain Puller" album. Don instructed me to apply his "Exploding Note Theory" to my version--meaning a much faster, choppier version, with "each note of the piece having no relationship to the previous or the subsequent note". I know Eric Feldman wrote out scores to pieces like "Sheriff of Hong Kong". I can't speak for other band members, but I never did (I have a very good memory). I doubt there will ever be a Beefheart songbook as Don's music never achieved a level of popular success to motivate a song publisher to put a sheet music folio together. Besides which his work was spread out over a variety of different music publisher affiliations. Pity, really.
