Hey, I appreciate your time and effort put into these videos. It’s a niche topic so it won’t generate many views and I can see how it might become difficult to continue making videos, so I really like how you kept going. Been binging your videos. I just got an akorn jr a couple weeks ago, been smoking everything in sight. I can’t seem to get the low n slow beef right though. Always ends up dry or tough. I’m good at making pork butt though, that’s easy. But chuck roast turned out try. Gonna try doing exactly how you did in this video. Cheers, eh!

Why steam the ribs? Ruins them
@thecanadiangrill17152 ай бұрын
I dunno, I watch a lot of Malcom Reed and his 'How to Barbecue Right' channel. He does this method as well, and I think it's to break down the meat fibers so it's not so tough and chewy. Other people do low and slow, but always seem to be spraying the ribs with water or cider every so often. There's so many ways to do them...lol. I guess this is just my way (and Malcom Reed's).
@DanielJohnson-ec8rk2 ай бұрын
@ the spray with liquid doesn’t steam the meat. The steaming does cut down cooking time by at least an hour but there is a trade off. Try sometime without the steam and see if you notice the difference. I’m 50 years old and been smoking and grilling since I got married at 19. It’s shocking how many grills and smokers I’ve burnt up over the years

Looking to buy an acorn ... question: what's the difference between an Akorn jr ... good deal now on Amazon ....and an akorn chargriller which every vendor seems to be out of stock on.
@jasonpowless11793 ай бұрын
Hi there, the Akorn Jr (Junior) is the smaller version of the Char-griller Akorn. The large Akorn grill has a 20" diameter grate, while the Akorn Jr has a 14" grate size. Hope this helps.

Do these Char Grillers hold the heat in the Canadian winter???
@thecanadiangrill1715 Жыл бұрын
Hi there! Yes, they do pretty well in the winter. I'm also in Canada. Grill temps are still high, as long as you don't leave the lid open for too long. Where these really shine is on cold WINDY days. My gas grill struggles to maintain grill temps and the flame will blow out when trying to grill on low. The Akorn Jr. is pretty well insulated and is (for the most part) wind proof!

If you could show your under grill setup, that would be excellent. ie: soaked wood chip addition, diffuser plate, water tray.

Hi there, thanks for the comment! My set up is a simple 11" grill grate I purchased from amazon and then an 8" pizza stone I purchased from a dollar store. Can I use Wood instead of charcoal?
@thecanadiangrill17152 жыл бұрын
I use nothing but lump hardwood charcoal in it when grilling, which is basically charred wood, so I don't see why not. I've put wood in it to use as an outdoor fireplace, I guess you could let the wood burn down into coals and use it for cooking.

Looks good and may work. It looks like there is just one burner for the entire unit. If so is the entire burner on for all grilling or is there a control to turn off half of the burner so you can grill indirectly? For example place items on one side (left) of the grill while the burner is on for the other side (right) so you can grill indirectly.

@thecanadiangrill17152 жыл бұрын
From what I understand, the premium has a locking lid mechanism, but no bottom vent control. I would rather have top and bottom vents for the heat control. The lack of locking lid can always be accomplished with a simple bungie cord. Hope this helps!

I am a complete newb to bbq, got one of these akorn jr's in the uk about 3 years ago, used it about 3 times...no prior experience of bbq and tbh I am not really into being an amazing bbq cook either, just want to throw some meat on it on a sunny day and enjoy some food. I really want to say though, I am over the moon with this kamado, you can get this to sit at 100c all day long. Lie i say, I have no clue generally and certainly not with any comparison to other grills but other than size, there is nothing that would make me want to buy another kamado. Temp control has been a revelation to me...just open the bottom temp about 0.5 and same again with top and it will hold a really low temp for as long as there is fuel to burn...really impressed with mine...

Hey! Just ordered one from Amazon. I’m wondering why lump charcoal only? TnNk you!
@thecanadiangrill17152 жыл бұрын
Some might argue on this one.....but lump is all natural, produces more smoke flavor, and produces less ash which leads to air flow problems while cooking, as opposed to briquettes which are usually made from compressed sawdust.

I have my Akorn Jr. shipped to the Philippines and am loving it! It's funny because I have the exact same method for my deflector as you. I think my grill i use to set the deflector is 10.5 inches, but it fits fine. However, instead of a pizza stone. I am using a deflector made out of terracotta. My grill was super cheap at like $1.20 and the deflector cost me about $2.00. If I bought and shipped char-grillers deflector. it would cost me like $60 with shipping, no way I'm doing that. The only thing I don't like about the Akorn is they should just provide the deflector plate, it's needed if you buy this grill.
