FYI, PTC is actively working on an interactive Mathcad worksheet that goes into more side-by-side depth on Mathcad Express vs Mathcad Prime, so stay tuned...!

Hi Dave, In my 30 years of running Pro I don't think I've ever had the need to work with bodies. TBH, I'm not really sure what they even are, or, what they can do for me. In this example I would just have separate part files. Because, you know, I need to have something produced. I looked thru the archives and didn't really find a video on what they are and why I would use body models verses what I consider to be part models. Thanks.

I have several videos and even playlists on Multibody. I go extensively into the use cases.

Also, a few years ago, I made a video for PTC called "Creo Face Off: Creo 8 vs Creo 4." It includes some time comparisons for design problems with Multibody techniques versus traditional design modeling tools. Of course, you don't have to use Multibody tools in Creo. But they do expand your design capabilities. It's the same as Top Down Design. You could perform all your modeling using traditional Bottom Up techniques. But Top Down - and Multibody - can help you make models that are more parametric, flexible, and robust, as well as save you time and effort.

For users who haven't been working with Rio for very long, the whole layer management is quite confusing. IMHO a lot of things are unnecessarily complicated. All the better that you can find support here. Thanks and happy new year

Does we have any series which having industry level design with Total best practices
@CADPLMGuy
@CADPLMGuy Күн бұрын
I don't know what you mean by "total" best practices. But I wrote an entire book on Design Intent. I cover healthy practices for many modes within Creo. (I hate the term "best practices." I find that it's overused. Also, in CAD and product development, there usually isn't a "best." There are only trade-offs.)

I don't really like the idea that it will search these paths every time you open an assembly, is there a way to avoid this and only search these paths if I open a specific assembly. (or am i missing something here)

Thanks. These videos are good only because I used to be a trainer for PTC. And Scott, the guy who certified me as a trainer (and one of my favorite people in the world) is now in charge of education services at PTC. I’m sure he would be interested in hearing how you think PTC can improve its training and classes.

I think that providing all screw family table is better than just let us know how to make screw models
@CADPLMGuy
@CADPLMGuy 7 күн бұрын
Watch my videos on IFX and you can see what PTC provides. But also, go on McMaster Carr and you can see how many different screws are available. And that doesn’t even include every single family of screws available in the world. But I think you missed the point of this video. It’s not to teach you how to create families of screws. It’s using the simple example of screws to teach you how to create families of parts.

A couple things to take into account. I made this video over 2 months ago, so I don't remember everything I did to jack up this drawing. Speaking of which, I did all sorts of things that you shouldn't do in order to make things highlight in the HBA tool. In that way, though, I replicated some of the worst habits that I would see as an admin. In this situation, the axis is the parent of the holes; it's not owned by the holes. When I added a Flexible Move, I selected the mounting boss and the holes, but I did NOT select the axis (which you can and should do). Therefore, the axis stayed exactly where it was.

One of the core principles behind the change from Pro ENGINEER Wildfire to Creo Parametric was combining traditional parametric modeling with direct modeling like FMX. It has two core use cases: changing native models that are too complex and modifying imported geometry from other CAD systems or neutral files.

Joint de cardan in French Thank you for asking 😂
@CADPLMGuy
@CADPLMGuy 7 күн бұрын
They may be called that in France, but it would be technically incorrect. Cardan joints were named after an Italian named Cardano. While all Cardan joints are universal joints, not all universal joints are Cardan joints. The images I show at 4 seconds and 18 seconds in are Cardan joints. The image between them though, starting around 10 seconds, is a Double Cardan joint. In the video I show another kind of universal joint called Bendix-Weiss. And there are other kinds of universal joints like Constant Velocity joints, Oldham couplings, and Thompson couplings.

Hi David! I am trying to create/import a bas-relief as a part in CREO. 1) On the import option, I tried that with STL or OBJ files (mainly used for 3D printing). I was not able to get parts with a smooth finish, those little triangles do not translate well to a nice finish surface, they look really ugly and blocky after I export/save them using the Shrinkwrap option. 2) On the create option, I was thinking of importing a picture (JPG/PNG file) into a sketch, and then do an extrude from that, but I am really not skilled enough to be able to get something worth using. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!! And if you have a video already on that, I beg of you to point me to it! Colin. P.S. This is not a for-profit thing, I am just an amateur working on a passion. I wish I had the money to hire a professional for anything! 😞
@CADPLMGuy
@CADPLMGuy 12 күн бұрын
I’m not familiar with bas relief. But OBJ and STL will never import well. You can’t extrude from a picture file. You might want to try the Warp command with the Sculpt option or maybe Freestyle.

Really helpful, thanks Dave! I'm having issues with "PATTERN_NO", even if I simplify it and remove the "{0:" and use "PATTERN_NO", it works for one instance, but if 2 or more, it returns "0". Any ideas or anyone with the same issue? I have trailed the innerwebs, but no joy

It is important to be polite and professional. Rather than telling someone "Give me 3 tips," you ask them for 3 tips. "Can you please share 3 tips that would have helped you when you were a beginner?" I've known people who were good engineers but lost out on opportunities because people didn't want to work with them.

Until CREO can import parameters from excel, the platform is inferior to competitors. Another method I have discovered for easily modifying parameter values: Place the value in an unattached note. Note reads '<parameter name> = &<parameter name>' click on note -> double-click on the value -> dialog box opens allowing you to change the value of the parameter -> Regenerate

Unbelievable that PTC is not giving you the Creo license for free. Your content is actually miles better than the official content from PTC academy (low quality videos done in low cost countries). I'm a Creo user but it saddens me how terrible their marketing department is.
@CADPLMGuy
@CADPLMGuy 26 күн бұрын
They do provide me with a license when I'm doing work for them. But it has been quite a few months since then. That's why I have to maintain my own personal license. I wonder what the future of CAD training is. Companies won't send their employees to 3-5 days of training anymore. And the lecture - demo - exercise training model doesn't seem to work with modern audiences either. Companies also have unrealistic expectations. A couple weeks ago, I talked to a company that wanted realistically 15-20 days of training, with a lot of content custom developed for their industry, but they wanted it delivered in a couple days before the end of the year. It's a complicated situation all around.
