This holds up very well. May be the best chamber version I've heard of Appalachian Spring. Very impressive. Excellent acoustics!

Impressive performance and a very good recording. I’ve been using this to practice movement three for a solo-ensemble performance competition coming up, and I wouldn’t know what it was supposed to sound like without this. You make it look easy, even though it isn’t!

It's weird but i've only seen clarinet players sit like that and still sound amazing. For some reason clarinet players really like deceiving audiences :)

As I understand it - and someone correct me if I'm wrong - it was commissioned for a smaller orchestra because the place where it was to be performed couldn't house a larger one. So this is really the original balance of instruments.

Yes, it was commissioned to do at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. There are a couple of other works commissioned for small groups to squeeze into the tiny pit there. William Shuman and Hindemith wrote for Martha Graham to perform there also.
