This film is incredible, its a stand alone film..the 'Flaws' are purposeful, the claustrophobic feel was intentional, it was shot dark, pixelated to have a gritty feel..Mann's shots and soundtracks are distinctly his..the angles, use of negative space, closeups, etc etc...Miami Vise, Collateral, The Wrestler, At Eternitys Gate are all the inspiration i need as a filmmaker.i think Farrell was a Perfect choise for Sonny...

Denzel was 10 toes in when he was standing on business in this movie. Nought said. That fact made this one special: thanks for the flashback.

I got into the Goldberg variations because of Hannibal and the silence of the lambs and Anthony Hopkins hairdo when I was 17 and I had one of those hairlines that wouldn't stick down, but as I got older it was the only haircut I can have, now at 32 it's definitely falling out... I wish I knew Rick Baker he'd patch it up like Jack Nicholson in the werewolf film Wolf But that aside I love all the Hopkins movies and I liked Hannibal Rising too, and I've read the novels repeatedly since I was I 18 so I'm a super Lecter fan or Thomas Harris 🤔

I hated this movie. To me this was Oliver Stone trying to show the world he was still hip, but failed hard. I think the movie would have been better if it was released before Pulp Fiction. Because it really felt the Oliver was trying soo hard to emulate OT but it was just a mess. I got what Oliver Stone was trying to do, the whole obsession people have with seral killers and how the media coverage can spin them in to rockstars. But I always felt that this movie never knew what tone it wanted to be. I HATED the sitcom part of Malory's story. Any empathy that I was supposed to have for her or Mickey went right out the window. I get that that was satire. But it was done to such a level it was a Cartoon. I felt nothing after I watched it. The concept was not the problem, the execution was the problem. He should have laid off the Acid a bit when making this. Just because you use different film stocks, jumpy editing, and alt music doesn't make your movie good. A French movie did this concept(for the most part) way better before this movie came out, Man Eats Dog (1992)

True art is no t appreciated in its time, this was borderline panned at the time. Edit: Actually it was well received at the time, maybe it was the speculation prior to release as remakes were frowned upon. I misremembered.

I love this movie so much. People been sleeping on The Wolverine for far too long. Personally, I like it more than Logan. For the record, they did shoot on location in Japan for a lot of the exterior scenes and interiors like the pachinko arcade

Disagree about Sucker Punch, I think it's a masterpiece. Apparently so do a lot of psychologists I found out recently lol. The level of depth and attention to detail on that movie is off the scale. It just wasn't what audiences thought it would be

This movie was garbage. It's as if you gave $30 million dollars to a film student and asked them the make a movie. Film parts in 16mm, check. 8mm? Check. Black & white? Check. Sepia? Check. Dutch angles? Check. Animation? Check. Dream sequence? Check. Always thought Stone was kind of a hack, this movie confirmed it. But the WORST sin was changing the script of arguably the best screenwriter alive.

It's hardly 'underrated' ... If anything it's overrated. I remember seeing this in the theater when it was released and my 20 year old brain was thoroughly impressed by the flash and edge .. Watched it about 10 years ago and realized it's all surface and the movie is actually a stinking turd. 😂Terrible movie. Stone has made a few good movies, but this was definitely not one of them.

If the system addresses grievances with more grievances, violence and street justice will be the results. Sam is someone in power who abused his power and that makes him 10 times worse than Max Cady.

The frantic pace and convoluted presentation is important in order to create the emotion of this movie. You’re in a movie theatre with popcorn and Reese's . Mann takes you out of the theatre and into the situation by making you feel overtaken by events

Not a huge fan of this one. I don't really understand why people like it, as I've seen tons of slasher films that are way better. I went in with an open mind, I wasn't expecting the original film and tried to take it on it's own merits, but I was so bored.

I totally agree this movie is underrated It’s almost comes close to being a masterpiece it is perfect in almost every aspect but the reason why it’s not a masterpiece in my opinion is because of the ending it is still better than the book but it’s still terrible and is one of the reasons why Jodie Foster didn’t return back to play Clarice I think it should have ended with Hannibal Lecter getting arrested and sent to prison and having Clarice visit Lecter in Jail. I did really Julianne Moore as Clarice I thought her performance was really unique and very choice for the role she’s almost as good as Jodie Foster but my biggest problem is that she is essentially playing Jodie Fosters Clarice. If Moore played her in her version say if they made a sequels to Manhunter she would’ve have received the same amount of recognition that Jodie Foster received

It’s like people wanted a period piece set in 1984 with everything in pastels. But the original show wasn’t about the Eighties-it was about what was cool about contemporary Miami, which happened to be in the Eighties at that time. When this movie was made, contemporary Miami was 2006, and we get what’s cool about 2006 Miami.

The director's cut of this film makes it even better. I believe about 17 minutes of mostly dark humor were added back. It really alters the overall atmosphere. The only director's cut that I can think of that truly improved an already great film.

i think whar makes it amazing is how chaotic it is. Thas exactly what he was trying to capture. you're basically viewing it through the mind of Micky and Mallory hence the weird colours and just pure chaos. it portrays them as the normal ones and everyone else as the weird ones. your viewing the movie in the mind of a crazy insane person. It's also why we see her fucked up family in this parody of a sitcom. its how her mind dealt with the trauma. your see it through her eyes

I 100% disagree with Stone offering "comedic relief". It is not a dark comedy like Dr. Strangelove, and I don't agree that it was meant to be. In my opinion, the supposed comedic moments are an indictment of the viewer. I think he's holding up a mirror and saying... look, this is you. It's you taking enjoyment in the most horrific of things. It's the making normal of what should never be seen as normal. The fact that we love the movie proves his point.

A few corrections. Resident Evil Code Veronica came out on the Dreamcast, not the Saturn. Resident Evil 2 also never released on the Saturn either, it came out on PlayStation, N64, PC, Dreamcast, GameCube, and was made available on the PSN store for the PSP/Vita and the PS3. Does this guy just really like the Sega Saturn or something?
