Most important thing about this test is the rubber gasket in the cap. Is it in place, and is it lubed so it doesn't dry rot. What does spraying the threads do besides make them sticky?

This is not an annual standpipe test as others have noted and Simplex should have either the title corrected or the video removed.

Cheers for this, been searching for "how to charge an emergency exit battery" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Eenseh Unthinkable Expediency - (just google it )? It is a smashing one of a kind guide for discovering how to get emergency light without relying on batteries without the normal expense. Ive heard some super things about it and my brother in law got excellent success with it.

The differential pressure across the check valve can be accomplished correctly by connecting the high pressure hose to test cock number 2 and the low pressure hose to test cock number 3. This is a recognized and accepted method of measuring differential pressure. Read the manual!

Union guys don’t use the USC 10th edition buddy. We’re trained on the ASSE method which is what he did. It’s an acceptable way to test the differential pressures.

I'm new to FS testing, but not hydros. Wouldn't there be a multi-hour holding period for this test? Edit: googling tells me it's supposed to be 2 hour min, and 200psi min, so I don't get this one being...7 seconds and 150psi... And yes, as another commenter mentioned, I'd sure think bleeding air would be best - but not from this location...up topside, where it's going to collect, with test set up to isolate by valve below where the air would be bled.

He's not doing a hydro test, it's an Annual Fire Hose Valve test to make sure that the valve opens up and shuts all the way. It's easier to have that gauge set up on there to make sure that water is getting through and to help drain the water off after he's done.

A Menometer test does not prove that the air is coming from inside the duct, as the sampling tube cap on the opposite end could be missing. Hence the air would be coming through the sampling tube from the outside of the duct on the back side. To properly test the duct smoke detector as designed, you must blow smoke into the "protected area", which is the air up stream and /or air moving through the duct work of the particular sampling tube of the duct smoke detector you are testing. proving that smoke will enter the sampling tube through the holes in the sampling tube, drawn into the housing of the detector and into the sensing chamber of the detector head activating an alarm. Blowing canned aerosol directly on the head through a hole in the housing only proves "if" smoke gets to the sensing chamber, it will go into alarm. You should test a duct smoke detector as it is designed. These short cuts are dangerous and flawed.

Air is compressible and will give an inaccurate reading. After installing the test set up bleed out the air then close the ball valve and open the angle valve fully. also be careful what type of lubricant your spraying on the valve stem as it can cause the packing to deteriorate

pull stations should not recall elevators, only devices (smokes/heats) associated with the elevator, elevator lobbies, machine rooms, hoistway etc...some jurisdictions require waterflow to recall elevators as well

They have been known to fail back flows in Charlotte NC area and they don't offer repairs, only replacement. They like to do it on the smaller devices (Irrigation, Domestic, bypass devices). One customer we went to and tested the device after Simplex and it passed with no issues, they had forgotten to close the #2 on an RPZ and there was watering flowing thru the device so it caused the Relief not to dump. Another one had the little bypass on a RPDA fail and they told them they had to replace the entire 8" device (think big $$$ for them), there was nothing wrong with the large 8" one, just had to replace the little 3/4" bypass device.

First of all do some research, look at the cost to replace the check in backflows 1” and smaller. For the cost of material and labor to rebuild and retest is a few dollars less than to replace the whole device. It’s common sense.

Looks like they did it right to me.... 12.3.3.1 Each control valve shall be operated annually through its full range and returned to its normal position. 12.3.3.5.2 A distinctive signal shall indicate movement from the valve's normal position during either the first two revolutions of a hand wheel or when the stem of the valve has moved one-fifth of the distance from its normal position .

Fire pumps are sized for what ever pressure is required to reach the roof, 65 old school, 100 PSI current. The churn pressure is the result of what ever it takes to get there, depending on how high the building is. Use PCVs on the lower floors. Dropping pressure too fast on the sensing line test connection at 0:28 does not confirm the start setting on the controller. The test connection should be in the middle of the controller, then people would not have to get on their knees to start it.

Nice video, gents. Be careful with the "bucket tester" as shown in the video (Solo 330?). While it will conserve aerosol smoke during required smoke entry testing, it will not allow the natural air movements of the building to influence the smoke migration. So, if there is a potential environmental issue with smoke being directed away from the detector, the "bucket" will shield the ambient airflow, preventing the inspector from being alerted to a potential concern with detector placement.
