main problem: you use a stand on spool roller without any enclosure. was always an unnecessary risk. and i never get why ppl use them at all. if there is any knot or other problem, they will get pulled down and cause problems. even worse problems than the extruder motor grinds down the fila and the print fails from feeding problems.

This was my first time using a 3kg spool. Never had stuck filament like that on a 1kg spool before so didn't think this would happen. If I ever buy one again, I'll add something through the center of the spool to retain it if it jams like that.

Just did that for the remaining filament and had a hard time doing it. Every time you reach the cardboard side, the filament is to tight and is stuck.

Question: Do you have block-off plates installed in the empty PSU bays, or are they just open? The one I just ordered (DS4246. Close enough.) doesn't have the plates and I'm wondering if that might cause cooling issues by allowing air to enter from the back of the chassis rather than being pulled over the drives.
@mrsarge Жыл бұрын
Yes I had the blank in both missing PSU slots. Didn't check if HDD temp would be higher if I kept the slot open. Since that video, I added 2 more PSU. I now have all 4 plugged. Also switched the IOM3 for IOM6 module so it's now the same thing as a DS4246.

The bubbles downstream of the pump are normal cavitation bubbles from the pump. Are you showing bubbles forming upstream of the pump? It's difficult to tell in the video. What could help is if you make sure your pump angle is correct and there's not too much vertical distance between pump, tank, and heater.
@mrsarge Жыл бұрын
Yes the bubbles are upstream, which is not normal. The second part of the video show de bubbles coming out of the Promaster fuel pump assembly. I even removed the fuel pump assemble and replaced the pick up tube but it didn't help. I did a vacuum test on the pick up tube and there is no leak. I have no idea where those bubbles come from. Tried multiple pump height and angles, always the same result. Right now, the pump is attached on the frame, about the same height as the end of the pick up tube. The heater is on the floor of the van so maybe max 6 inch above the pump. The heater is able to run at max speed but it is not stable, I can hear it having difficulties when a large bubble get through. If I try to slow it down it stall after a few minutes.
@nicholasmartin7922 Жыл бұрын
I know it’s too simple but you have to tighten every connection upstream of the pump. Including between the pickup tube and the fuel pump, the lines to the pickup tube, everything. It also wouldn’t hurt to throw in. A fuel safe epoxy into some of those connections just to further prevent air from getting in. Because Air isn’t getting in at the bottom of the pick up tube. Most likely it’s coming in through a fitting or hose clamp. I had this same issue with mine and eventually gave up and added a different tank.
@nicholasmartin7922 Жыл бұрын
Are you using the hard micro tubing or a larger diameter softer tubing. The small hard one is better. Anything too large and it can’t keep the pressure to clear any air bubbles.
@mrsarge Жыл бұрын
@@nicholasmartin7922 I'm using the 5mmOD x 2.6mm ID hard fuel line that came with it. I replaced the line after the pump by a 1.5mm ID one to be able to use it. Tried the 1.5mm before the pump but it's too restrictive.

No offense man, and I'm totally not trying to discourage you, but there's a tenant in engineering that I try to adhere to in my day-to-day life _outside_ of the office as much as while at work: the more moving parts a thing has, the more points of failure, the harder to build, and the more expensive to maintain. My 2¢.

@mrsarge4 жыл бұрын
The point of the video was to show how quiet it is in normal operation, since a lot of people want to buy them for home usage. For the second PSU removal, I saw peoples online asking if the unit can run on a single PSU. It can, but it's loud. Not everyone knows everything about enterprise level gear, myself include. I got the unit with two PSU, but wasn't aware that it would go full blast, even without a single disk in it.

I'm pretty sure the multiple PSUs are strictly for failover. In *most* systems, the default is to power the fans up full and wait until they get a signal from the controller that the system temps are all good to slow down to idle speeds. If there's no controller plugged in, the fans won't get that signal and they'll stay at 100% forever.

Would a heavy canvas backdrop work better? I wonder how much the sand slows down after a few feet before it hits a drop cloth; whether it just destroys the canvas or hopefully if the sand just bounces off it and falls down. I guess when you’re hitting those metal parts the sand ricochets in every direction. Probably just easier to do it out in the middle of a field next time.
@mrsarge5 жыл бұрын
Next time I'll probably use Heavy gauge polythene film like I did for my paint booth. After hitting the metal, he sand rebound is really not that strong. Or for something smaller, maybe a cheap camping tent could do the job. If I had known beforehand what the aftermath was going to be, I'd never made it like that! It's been more than 6 years and I still find glass beads every now and then!
