Hello, this is a great video. I’ve been looking for recent videos of this forest. I’m planning 3 to 4 nights in the forest in June this year ( coming from America ). I was wondering if you could give me some advice and answers. Upon studying this place, apparently you’re not allowed to camp there nor film there. Obviously people do that ( I’ve seen some videos of people doing this ). Is that to just stop people from ending their life? Will I be alright to camp and take videos with my GoPro? Would I be arrested? I’m planning to bring a hammock tent. Also I can kinda see lockers behind the wind cave store / cafe on google earth. Are we allowed to store stuff in those lockers over night or are they just day time use? I’ve also noticed that there’s bathrooms at the parking lot. Is there showers there? Does it get buggy there? Sorry for a lot of questions but there’s very little info about this place and the info is not clear online.

Thanks for the comment. Here are some answers to your questions: "Upon studying this place, apparently you’re not allowed to camp there nor film there." Not being a lawyer nor _your_ lawyer, I will not attempt to give definitive legal advice concerning the legality of camping there. In doing my own research concerning this, at least a substantial portion of Aokigahara falls within the boundaries of the Fuji-Hakone National Park, but those boundaries are not clearly marked. Camping within the park boundaries falls under the Natural Resources Protection Law and is prohibited outside of designated camp spots, as noted by more recent signs in both Japanese in English, presumably to protect the park's natural beauty. On my off-trail trips, I have tried to not camp in the areas marked as being inside the National Park (the west/southwest part of the forest), but again the boundaries are not marked, so this very much a case of taking your best guess and taking full responsibility/accepting the consequences if one's guess is wrong. The good news for you is that Camp Akaike (Video of me camping there w/ Ronin Dave: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXKnmpx4f9Fkm9k ) is open during the summer, so it is an option for you to camp there. It is right by several trails, including the one that goes right through the center of the forest (as can be seen in my second Aokigahara video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mmjGmWpnpM-jn6s ). "Would I be arrested?" Because I can read Japanese law and have read the Natural Resources Protection Law, I could probably finesse my way out of a police encounter (and I did have the police roll up on me in the Wind Cave parking lot as I was prepping to head back home...a 10 second chat with them was all I needed to put them at ease and on their way). Someone that can't speak Japanese and knows the culture well may not have that option. Often the enforcement/prosecution of Japanese laws can be...'flexible', but usually the preference is to _not_ prosecute people unless the behavior/violation is egregious. The mindset of the police here is that an arrest/prosecution indicates they failed to prevent a crime in the first place, so they want to try to settle issues if at all possible so that they can report a low crime rate. If you get stopped by the police, the best approach is to NOT cop an attitude, and apologize ("Sumimasen!!") and they will usually try to give you a break. Having said that, the usual warnings apply e.g. one's mileage may vary/it depends/buyer beware/etc. Regarding not being allowed to film/take video there, that is pretty much nonsense. Individuals can take video/pics all they want, as long as they are not being idiots about it (i.e. damaging the wildlife, etc.) If it is a Hollywood production like the movie "The Forest", then yeah...the government specifically refused to allow the production crew to shoot the movie in the real Aokigahara forest. "I’m planning to bring a hammock tent." I DO NOT recommend trying to hammock camp there for the following reason: The floor is solid lava rock, not dirt, so the roots of the trees cannot anchor deep into the ground. Instead they spread out on top of the rock, and thus do not have a central tap root to provide long-term stability for the tree. The result of this is that you will see lots of trees that have fallen over on to their sides. If your hammock was tied to one of these trees, it might hasten its eventual toppling over, and one's demise if caught under the tree when it falls. The same risk is present when tent camping, but at least you are not putting you entire body weight upon two trees that don't have deep roots. "Are we allowed to store stuff in those lockers over night" Knowing Japan and how these places work, I am 99% certain that the lockers are for day use only. They close at 5, so it would be strange if someone left something there overnight. "Is there showers there? Does it get buggy there?" There are NO showers in the parking lot bathrooms. Being June/summer, be prepared for *LOTS* of bugs. My trips so far have been in the spring/fall to avoid them. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the comment...glad you got some useful info out of it! If one stays on the official, well maintained trails, there is little to worry about; the footing only gets super sketchy if you go off the main trails.
