Thanks for putting this out for us to see.....your video, combined with the Chupacabra video on the excessive required maintenance....it really makes me feel really good about my Turbo R purchase! What I can't seem to get over is the "years and years and years" of RG putting out his "R&D" videos but yet the production car having belt temp and power steering issues? Yes, all mfg's will have issues, but when a guy (RG) puts out countless videos on how good this car is but once in the hands of the public, you're left with this?

@utv-a what do you mean when you said the steering faded later in the day? Was it the hydraulic or electric motor that was fading? Why would the electric not support any fade? Isn’t that the point of the electric to fix the issues Speed has with the hydraulic steering? Would this car be better to just be full electric and ditch the hydraulic all together? Have you spoke to Speed about the clutch alignment that you mentioned? If it’s a alignment issue then they need to figure that out vs selling $600 clutch covers with a fan, because your still going to have belt life & clutch issues if there not aligned.
@UTV-AАй бұрын
I am not hearing reports of newer cars having the same clutch issues I am experiencing. SPEED has tried to tackle it in multiple ways even to the point of replacing my transmission. We will keep at it until we figure it out, but I’m happy to report that the clutch fan helped! The Electric upgrade is awesome without a doubt, and I like the option to select full hydraulic or electric power assist.

@UTV-AАй бұрын
Yes, used to have a yellow/black that got wrapped and built. Unfortunately I totaled it in a high speed accident. To get optimal performance you would want to empty the tank from 91, and fill with E85. On this build I’m going to add fuel tanks that will be selectable. Stay tuned!

Would you buy the speed el jefe again? Going to be talking with Ned from MTS Off-Road at UTV Takover. Thinking about canceling my order. I have been waiting 3.5 years now. Nice information. Can we see a detailed look at the clutch casing. Is there a rear exit for air?
@UTV-AАй бұрын
Kevin, take a look at one of my previous videos that shows the clutch fan in detail. I feel for you man! If I were to go out and purchase one car today and I had to choose between Speed UTV, Pro R 4, and Maverick R. I’d probably go with a Pro R 4 Ultimate, since I know what it cost to build a Pro R with all the goodies, I’d get an UPFIT Baja 4 seater. If you added up the buildout, you would end up about $5k less with an UPFIT Pro R. I feel bad for Speed UTV, their cars are tied up in customs from my understanding. I personally would be able to wait unfortunately. That doesn’t mean that I don’t love my El Jefe. Just about got it all dialed in!
@kevingoodrich3050Ай бұрын
@@UTV-A I understand. I'm not talking about the fan set up. On my X3 there is a large exit at the back of the transmition. @UTV-AАй бұрын
@@kevingoodrich3050there are three ports in the Speed UTV clutch case. Two in the front that attach to vents on the back side of the number plates, and one that is open to the motor. The idea is multiple air ports that transfer cool air. I think factory clutch alignment is an issue, and the intercooler, turbo, and exhaust all sit close to the secondary clutch, and the housing is cast aluminum making it an oven essentially. I’ve run with cars that run way cooler then mine which leads me to believe that mine is an alignment issue.

Don't blame the Can Am. This is a classic case of driving way beyond your ability. Cross-grain & rain ruts are everywhere and sometimes you have to check-up for it. These cars are super-fast and the gotcha's come up quick. Surprising that insurance will cover something like this, but if they do it is a good deal for the insured. Get some window nets installed 😶
@UTV-AАй бұрын
Definitely not the CanAms fault. I think this crash would have torn apart any car. I did think I was beyond the big rutted out section, pure miscalculation on my part. I am grateful that insurance covered the accident.

Wow.....the reality today as compared to the "progress videos" the Speed put out over the few years is staggering! Let's see here....folks are reporting complete engine failures, coolant/hydraulic/shock leaks, steering issues, excessive belt temps, belt failures, overheating issues, etc. Seems a bit more R&D is still needed....I know the other mfg's aren't without their own issues but come on....one other topic is the seemingly excessive maintenance required for this "race car" (Chubacabra).
@UTV-AАй бұрын
I have had just about all of the issues, and have been willing to work through them. I would love to put my car in a race or take it on a long trip, but I still do not feel like it’s quite there yet. Belt temps are my final issue, hoping the clutch fan fixed it!

The hydraulic steering has a tremendous amount of feedback over bumps and corners, you get used to it after a while. It also jerks on the pavement. I tested the EPS last night, and there is zero feedback on the trails and pavement. How long before yours overheats? I’ll keep an eye on mine.
