Well it’s 2025 and Ophelia proved to be another plastic startup for the sole purpose of making a quick buck out of desperate people. They have unqualified providers who don’t even understand the basic pharmacology of the drugs they use. They lie, they over charge and then abandon their patients.

The healthcare system public, private hospitals, universities, drs, and professors who control all the federal funding for R&D. Will never allow innovation (automation) in. It's their money and it works perfect for them and their friends. It's not about helping people it's about keeping the money network going. Healthcare professionals build terrible applications and developers know nothing of the system or nothing about business. As you can see from your own portfolio having the best engineers, and a bunch of people from popular colleges doesn't guarantee and profitable exit. The "tech grave yard" is full of them. I shared to your company website a vertical Saas product. One that won a MIT Medical Hackathon. Got a email response thanking me for reaching out, haven't received the "we respond back to everyone " email. No biggy figured you might be a zombie fund with a nice website.

Ya and most self help books are also junk since in many ways the metrics are subjective. If ya listen to Dan pena he makes a key point. The person that takes action towards a goal rather than just reading a book about is doing what matters.

Not to be on ur face or the face of ur guest Mark but... after 5+ years from the publishing the book and all VIP "alleged" networks Chris Yeh has, he blitzscaled EXACTLY 0 BUSINESSES... including his own blitzscaling VC and academy that after 5+ years are nowhere to been seein doing anything useful for him or for any founders. You want a suggestion on getting good guests? Ask them the list of their portfolio companies or the number of exits they had as a founder... Good luck with ur podcast, ur doing good.

Great question -- yes, as long as your objective is to only test functionality, you can test your MVP in parts. However, if you're trying to validate the business or product idea as a whole, you need to replicate the most important parts of the user journey to get a clear picture.

So what's holding Chris Zhang in the US? Is it the 'freedom of speech' he referred to at about 46.0 min in the interview? Will he be returning to China permanently anytime soon? Afterall, the standard and quality of life in China is as good if not better than that in the US and the opportunities for him in the corporate and business world will be unlimited. Importantly, he will be closer to families in China esp I assume his aging parents.

His long cautious preface about his true loyalities and beliefs system is very telling. It betray his concerns as an Asian American (especially Chinese American). The anti-Chinese hysteria and jingosim (McCarthyism version 2) that have reached fever pitch level now infest the current US bipartisan political landscape. This climate prevents any objective fair unbiased discussion about China these days. It is said you may live in a closed society but have more open minds and conversely you can live in an open society but have closed minds.

Although Mark appears to be open but I think he doesn’t know enough of Chinese culture, work ethics, collective minded, etc. The amount of change esp in technology, standard of living, freedom in China was amazing that Mark doesn’t seem to have an in-depth understanding. I think deep in his heart is still filled with a certain racialism against China and Chinese

What Chris meant by “military style” was probably just stricter boarding school in a Chinese/East Asian style, I suspect. That’s more like 10-50% of most Chinese high schools depending on what province you live in. Definitely not 1% like some comments suggested.

😂😂The first layer of exploitation is your good lives in the west, the second exploitation is the so-called upper class in China. When the west can no more exploit the developing nations, there will be a big big reliefs on people's lives of developing countries. Then we will have a chance to go for the final liberation. Thank God the western colonists had f**ck themselves up throughout their ignorant, arrogant, and incompetent descendants.

The backstory of the militaristic middle school must be taken in context. When he talked about how hard life was for students, you have to understand that their parents suffered even greater trauma in their early life. If I’m his teens the life expectancy of China was less than 50, his parents generation was less than 40. Starvation in the 1950s was a major threat and I don’t know any families that didn’t actually lose siblings. Without context, you can’t appreciate why parents push so hard on their one child to succeed.

An excellent interview, thanks--please more of the realistic, objective and pragmatic views like Chris' sharing, less of ideological, superficial and warmongering foolishness. At the end of the day, all must face facts/reality, political posturing doesn't really change the fundamentals. Way to go, a rare gem. Chris' take is very close to the reality in CN. Ppl just want better lives, and CN gov has been delivering and working tirelessly on it. Ideology is really not that important. So the democracy vs. totalitarianism is bullshit. Jack Ma wasn't taken down b/c he criticized CN gov, he actually had access to the highest level to offer suggestion/advice. There were different things working together, his whole success was based on CN gov being lenient with him and his business (Ant Financial) was profiting from doing banks' business w/o being regulated by banking authorities on funds borrowed at low interest from State banks, but then he threatened to take down CN's financial system openly--one thing is of crucial importance to China is stability: you will only understand it when you start to realize how difficult it is to feed 1.4 billion/providing for everything and keep a country with 56 ethnic groups peaceful and stable. A related point is that the redline is as long as you don't plot to overthrow the government, split the country, or sabotage the stability/peace (terrorism), or sedition/treason (working for foreign forces to overthrow the gov/split the country etc.), they pretty much leave you alone to do whatever. Ma Yun's Taobao was also imposing on the small businesses/shops exclusivity, taking away the choices they might have, and therefore destroy any chances for rising new competitors, that's a classical anti-trust issue. In fact one strength of Chinese government is that they in principle don't allow religions or capitals to decide/influence policies (historically so), which is actually way better than the US. Chris' point on Chinese parent is relevant: CN government is historically like good parents, they take care of you whole heartedly, but you accept certain level of their into your life out of filial obligations/harmony/love. Only with understanding would Americans realize that Chinese/Chinese government are not demons, nor are they evil, nor are they interested in taking down the US: they just try best for a better life, with hard work (not looting).

1 out of 5,500 isn't an outliner?!? 😅 How many of the 5,500 totals are military style middle schools? Probably, less than 1%, and all military style middle schools would be privately runned. Ie. The large majority (>99%) of those 5,500 middle schools would be publicly funded, normal middle schools!

also no school in Zheng Zhou is/was the "best" in CN, never heard of it. I went to a boarding school top in the nation, the working hours were about that long, you got up early in the morning to run, fully packed schedule and strong competition spirit, but you have various activities, different classes, self-study time, and sports time and more. A 13 year old doesn't really think about family or burden, but more about being the best among your peers, it's not that morbid as he described. But his point was the value of hard work/discipline/work ethics in formative years--out of discipline there are achievements/fulfillment/happiness/joy too, also you know that hard work is the answer to most problems, so you'll always try your best.

Yes, it's a period of hard time for a child. But he pretended that he doesn't know he had enjoyed the best educational resources of that province in that time. 1% military style middle schools is still overrated, 0.1% might be more accurate.

As long as the western mainstream media lies to its audience of the realities in China, with constructed narratives or historical tropes, the western society at large will suffer the maladies of the proverbial hare & tortoise fable. IMHO, there's no catching up now, the Americans have lost too much ground.
