Very helpful thank you. The newer plastic floats have FRONT clearly marked on them.

Unit Garage does seem to have the best options. Not sure I want the XL though, maybe the next one down. Yellow is an interesting choice. Wonder if that's like a Dakar color or a popular adventure bike color or something?

Well, that was thorough, ha. I'm here because I was concerned with the very light specified payload for the Triumph accessory rack and pannier. Sounds like you can carry your lunch and little else, lol. My bike came with the Triumph Pannier which I'll use for now. I would like a nice strong rear rack though that will work with the Triumph Pannier mount. I'm trying to figure out how to mount a professional photography tripod so I can use my bike to make some photo trips. The Triumph pannier should be able to hold my camera with a couple lenses. I also would like a good windshield and phone mount.

I would think you could fit a canister oil filter to the Triumph. I fitted one to a 1954 BSA B31. It has a baseplate for the screw on canister filter with in and out oil pipe attachments. Fitted between the oil tank and engine oil pump it does the job a treat. You just have to find somewhere suitable to mount the filter baseplate. The same type of canister filter is fitted to my current bike - 20 year old Harley Sportster. When I first bought it (although it was low mileage and mint) I spent more time working on it than riding it. Fork rebuild with new oil, longer rear shocks (made it handle acceptably). To make it start properly, new main battery leads, new battery (selling dealer fitted a cheap one that was crap), new starter solenoid contacts (old ones were pitted). As a precaution I replaced the sprung clutch plate (grenade plate) to avoid a potential problem later. I bought the Harley as I'd never owned one. Had plenty of 50's and 60's Brit bikes (and a '72 T120V) and Hondas, Kawasakis, but never a Harley. Its agricultural, doesn't stop well, doesn't handle well and isn't that powerful for a 1200, but its interesting and has character (that usually means it needs work regularly and every ride out is a risky venture, not knowing if you will get back) Hopefully I will get a good deal of use out of it next summer. At 69 I won't be riding in rain and snow like I used to when I was younger.

That’s my Dommie Cafe Racer at 3.08 & 4.05. Rather than Dommie I christened it the “Dominatrix” as it always demanded my time and money! I even had some decals made for it.

Thank you for the comprehensive review. My conclusion is that the Rukka is for normal people and the Klim is for fat people. I'm 66 and have ridden motorcycles since 1973. I always ride in my AA leather jacket and AAA jeans. When touring and on frequent weekend trips, I find them more comfortable off the bike. I always bring my rain gear: A 30 year old Abeko jacket (£ 24) and a 20 year old pair of Wenaas PVC trousers (£ 8). Only problem is that I need to take off my trekking boots to don the trousers but I'm getting used to it. Maybe I'm stingy but it works for me.

I watched the vidro adding the OEM power outlet and short fly screen. I recently purchased a 2019 1200xe and did the same. What i am curious about is the wiring harness on yours where it enters the headlight. Mine was / is tight when the handlebars are turned to the right. I was a little disappointed with it. But other than that, i love the bike. Like you, I have a 1200GS, both a joy to ride. Been living in Canada for 44 years, but love your down to earth videos.

I just had to watch this video again and could not agree more. Have had my 79 T140E for about 15 years now and after a frame off restoration by mostly my labor 15k miles ago she is now a reliable wonderful ride. Back to oozing oil here and there but who cares! Must say the dual discs and electronic ignition are a great level of tech but she is still old school kicking and would not have it any other way. Love the looks starting her at a gas station.

don't forget the MX helmet can be a road option too. MX are very breathable for hot conditions but also offer face protection .. maybe MX helmet doesn't look cool with a Harley but just thinking practically it might be a solution especially for summer riders wanting ventilation with full face protection.

A open face helmet may not be fatal in an accident but if you break your nose/jaw or your entire face is not something you want, whether its fatal or not. I decided I will wear a open face (with windshield) helmet on low speed around town trips, and full face on highway/long trips.

Hi Simon... Firstly thanks for all your videos. I enjoy them and have also found them very useful. You're absolutely spot on about getting in the groove when on a bike trip.. Takes a few days but is a wonderful place when you find it... It would appear that great minds think alike as I too have a T140v and a 1200 scrambler! I've not the scrambler long and it's about that I would like to ask a question if I may. Mines a first generation one similar to yours.. I'm finding the suspension ever so hard and no matter what I do with it in terms of adjustment I can't seem to soften it much.. I'm 100kg. Just wondered how you got on with it and if you'd managed to find a sweet spot in the settings.. Thanks in advance.. R

Excellent vid.i would like to add.put used oil on oil filter gasket as it is burnt and won't stick on future removal and the oil filter has a torque of10nm.never had mine come loose.also check the clutch cable casing behind the headlight.the wire keeper wears the casing when turning the handlebars.fixed mine with 9.5mm heat shrink tubing that slides rite over the cable end once removed from the clutch lever.

Nice work. Hoping to pick up a newer version so I don't have to do this, but good info anyway. I wonder if some thermal header wrap would fit on the pipes under those heat shields or if it would be too tight. This way you wouldn't block the vents on the heat shields and would still cut down on heat.
@Clint_the_Audio-Photo_Guy5 күн бұрын
Follow up: I bought a 2022 1200 XC over the weekend, and it's got a slip-on already. There's definitely no CAT on the pipes leading up to the slip joint, it's just pipes, so I can confirm putting on a slip-on exhaust 2022 and newer will also De Cat your bike, shed weight, increase noise/fun, and reduce heat. :D

Tinkerer for sure. Very little money. I ride old bikes and fix my friends and family members bikes. I have a '77 Bonneville to assemble in 2025. I took it completely apart yo get the crank rebuilt. Crank is ready. I ride a '87 Wing and it usually needs something minor every once in a while. At home I have a Falcon 400, Tornado 250 and a Dax 70 (for my grandson) Always fixing something.

I have a full, open and half. Each one has times when it excelles. When extremely hot the half is nice. Hard to use a shield with a half so bugs are a problem. Full is quiet and calm and nice on the highway but gets way too hot if caught in slow traffic or stopped a lot. I wear an open helmet with face shield most of the time. A little noisy but cooler and in rain easy to clear tge shield. I ride long distances and the open works best for all conditions.

I know this is an older thread but, will toss in my 2 cents. I traded my HD in for an Indian 2 bikes ago. I have never looked back. The Indian is much more refined than a Harley in my opinion. I am picking up my second Indian this week. A 2023 Leftover Roadmaster Limited. Can't wait to bring it home. Your video was great. Loved the comparison. Now, 2 years since this video was posted, I am wondering if you are still riding a Harley or, did you make the switch?

Great video! Just finished up a 2,000 mile trip with a very small windshield, and definitely need something larger at highway speeds. But at slower speeds (which are more fun anyway), no problem going naked.

Oh, and as of the markings on the carb you present here, which you read as 3/5/32... wouldn't the first / be a 7, just lacking it's "line on the top"..? So, a badly stampted/worn-out 7, making the marking exactly what it is expected to be?

Hello, would like to have some tips on getting a slide out of a Amal monoblock (out of a RE Clipper 250, ~1958). Feels like the slide travels it's normal movement fairly freely, but then gets stuck with the needle clip just below the edge of the slide chamber. Wondering if the top of the slide chamber could be somehow deformed, and if so, how to get it back into shape again - or if there are any other ideas to check or try; Lubrication (several times..) seemed to help a little bit, but there seemed to be a limit to that. As it now is, I can't get the throttle or the slide cables disconnected, so can't get the carb to a bench or anywhere away from the bike to give it a proper cleanup.

I like the half or open faced helmet. Seems like the more comfortable you are, the more you can see and hear to avoid accidents in the first place makes more sense. I dont have my license yet but I won't go on 4 lane hwys and I'll just do the speed limit (35-55) on U.S. city streets. The way people ride now, treating public highways like personal race tracks, I'm not supprised the crashes and injuries are increasing, making people feel like they have to cover themselves in armor. I wont ride like that.

Why a lightweight adventure bike? Because you need to be able to pick it up by yourself. When it's loaded. In the dark. In the mud. On a hill. When you're exhausted. In the middle of nowhere.
