I believe you attached the rear sight backward. The rear sight should be toward the action not the muzzle. Otherwise very nice job.

To adjust spring tension do you need to disassemble the whole action?? Just picked up a 30-30 takedown from 1908

I have a savage 99 takedown I believe a 1925 model in 300 savage but the barrel has been cut down and seen better days and the stock also. Is the action or rifle as is worth anything or can I get a replacement barrel or a new one made for the rifle ?

I see you skipped the part of where you had to take the bolt to a gunsmith to get the ejector, spring, and pin back in lol 😝😝😝

Nice video, but you really should have the right width screwdrivers to prevent bunging up the slots.

I guess in your eyes you feel this recondtion is finished. From 1-10 , I give it a possible 5, cold blueing is not the way to go, to blotchy, and the stock work I would give it a 3, looks like crap, way to light. I certainly hope the customer did not pay more than $50.00 for this half ass mess. 🤮

I hope you're not in business as a gunsmith. Cold blueing doesn't die adequate job, your refinished forearm and stock look like crap. I surely wouldn't ever have you work on any of my firearms.🤮

My firing pin is different from the one you worked on. It has a little wish bone shaped spring and I can't figure out how to get it to fit back in place 😮💨

Have a .300 featherweight 1899 I noticed that you did not coat with or apply lube to any friction points I know oil can attract dirt but shouldn’t moving parts be lubricated?
@kmorris1803 ай бұрын
Man, this is a great video. I like how you didn't have all of the screws ready to be removed. I'm having trouble with my 1899. The automatic cutoff keeps flying into the bolt's raceway and jams the action.
@southardarms3 ай бұрын
@@kmorris180 sounds like a timing issue. May have to look at linkage and see if any parts are wallard out (worn out) could be a simple upgrade on parts or taking to a smith to have them reprofile the action

Had this on a brand new 700 in 25-06 about 1972 or 1973. No movement at all. Had to return rifle to Remington for a new bolt. Their guess was bluing solution not cleaned and the spring rusted in that blind hole.

That’s a tougher problem than the magazine. I’ve messed with them, not worth it imo. I don’t know how to explain it but the action is rather sensitive to wear.

@southardarms When i get the carrier installed and slotted correctly, the outside "wheel" that im keeping pressure on just spins free inside the receiver and releases all spring tension in the opposite direction... i dont understand whats happening. can you help?

When you go to remove the barrel from a takedown use the forearm to remove the barrel.when you take the forearm off on the inside there is a slot place over the hook on the barrel and hold them both together and twist and the barrel will come off easily.

Tape is your friend when trying to loosen screws on the receiver. May keep from scratching the metal when your screwdriver slips. And I would have used a brass polish on the carrier. It not only helps to clean but it also protects.

My grandfather just gave me his old Score Master 511 and its in rough shape.. would you offer this as a service? If so is there a better way for me to contact you if that would be a possibility?
I have a Savage model 220A that looks very similar to the Stevens in your video. It’s a family heirloom and I’d love to see it restored like this. Can you send me a quote?
I don't have a problem getting down to the rotary thingamajig, However when I got there, the lock screw on the forward end was so screwed up there was no way to get a grip on it, the screw slot is so washed out and obliterated I am concidering drilling it out. Good video though.
