despite the film technically be anachronistic to the intended time period (and also having some logic flaws in the later setting) i actually like the 14th / 15th century setting with pikemen seen in the background and late medieval plate armour

Am I the only one who thinks GoT people has stolen the idea of Cercei's costume from Polanski's king? Somewhere in s1 or s2 I remember her sitting in a beautiful dress with a cape which had red lions on the sides of the cape. The color combination was identical with the costume in this scene.

I enjoyed seeing this movie version. However, as usual we have to put up with hearing posh English accents. Not a single Scottish voice, as i recall.

I really like this Macduff, but the line is actually wrong here (3:23). It is also dealt as a throw away line under Polanski's direction. It is not, "He who has no children." Which would be Macduff lamenting his loss. It is, rather, "He has no children!" Which is Macduff referring to Macbeth not having any children and therefore able to kill children and not be appalled at the thought.
@dylorion2 ай бұрын
I don’t know, I’m certain he is in fact saying “He has no children”. It may just be the way he delivers the line that makes it sound like a throwaway but I prefer to see it as Macduff processing and grieving over the news hence why he sounds like that.

Banquo's speech is in the play, but it is not him who originally says it and it is in a different part of the play. It's with Ross and the Old Man and the discussion about Duncan's murder and Macbeth becoming the new King due to Malcolm and Donaldbain fleeing.

Maybe Banquo wants to "play most foully" to become king himself, and not be content with just fathering them.
@Rimi_theviolinist4 ай бұрын
In the real history of these characters, Banquo had as much of a role in the death of Duncan as Macbeth did. Macbeth then went ahead and had Banquo killed, but Banquo's line of heritage continued. In Shakespeare's play version of the historical event, he had to make Banquo a "Good Character" because during the time the play was to be performed, the King of the time was related to Banquo and any badmouthing of Banquo would be seen as being against the King. Of course, Shakespeare was very sly and intelligent. The small anecdotes in the play really show irony in Banquo's character and shows us that this character in real life was very different than the one made for the Royal Court.

they're gorgeous both of them...there is such chemistry between them. Eros dancing with Thanatos ...Desire as mating with death, sensuality as dancing with destructiveness, opposites are one...like fair is foul and foul is fair. The ambiguity of polar opposites is captured so beautifully.., an ambiguity which is one of the central themes in this great play. Nature, human kindness, maternal instincts, goodness and what is unnatural or evil, cruel, corruption...are sometimes so hard to tell apart as appearances can be so deceptive. Yin and yang, in a way.
