As far as I know piezos have been used as UGS ( underground sensors) and on the sonar buoys where they sink to a predetermined level for many years. UGS are to detect people, the underwater ones are to detect submarines. Having pulled a nautical one apart they appear to be just a piezo and coaxial cable with no battery or amplifier at the submerged end. The amount of wire that pays out is predetermined. Submarines like to stay below the thermocline which is where the layers of water change temperature suddenly as it reflects sonar. The sensors are sunk to just below the level of change. There are also kids projects on the net where they are waterproofed and lowered into shallow water and you can hear all the crustaceans. The UGS are marked and send back signals to a laptop showing where someone or animal is walking. My friend developed a sheet (to cover the whole cot surface) of them to pick up apnoea (cessation of breathing) in babies. This it could do easily but he had to filter out the heart rate to stop false alerts. It could communicate both ways via the mains wiring. The idea was stolen from him and it was and perhaps still is sold by Thomy. He demonstrated a piezo to me by placing one over a ring of steel as a base and put a small weight on top. It was connected to an oscilloscope and it could pick up walking through a concrete garage floor about 3 yards away, up a wooden table leg and across 2 foot of bench top. They are very sensitive. Moduleme I notice are selling them with a small preamp attached of which I have just bought a few at low price to play with. They have superb potential to let you know who is on your property even if it just plays back through amplifier and speakers. I think the signal after the preamp might go through 60 yards or perhaps further. I think either listening or letting the dogs hear it might be simpler than chasing cats, coyotes, dogs, badgers, scmbags etc etc putting one under a gravel path would probably be deafening. Thanks for the vid.

Awesome video, it looks like there are more than 2 capacitors on your breadboard. Was to smooth out input voltage or something else? Many thanks again for a perfect video 👍

I think you’re correct. It looks like I’ve added a couple of caps to the power rail of the protoboard, lower-left. If you’re powering the circuit from a battery, these can just be eliminated. I’m sure I just added them out of habit at the time and for good measure. And I’m very glad that you appreciate the video. Comments like these make it all worthwhile. What’s your application?

@@blown34 ahhhh makes sense, this probably sounds cheesy but we (beloved misses) do paranormal investigations. Nothing too serious, just mainly a excuse to go and stay in castle etc. Not got any background in electronics, just a ex mechanic but just really enjoying designing/building our own experiments (non arduino, just old school circuits) as it were. Honestly short, sweet and factual videos like this are so hard to come by. Again genuinely appreciate the work and effort 👌

I truly can appreciate what you’re saying. Finding a video about something you’re interested in, that lacks details and coherent explanations (all those 2 minute “hey look what i did!” videos) can be frustrating- especially for a subject that has so few videos in itself. In terms of your project, it sounds really fun. Happy to help in any way I can. Let me know if there is something specific you are trying to design. I don’t mind donating some time to the cause. I have a heavy background in software design, embedded systems, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering as well as metal fabrication and machining with a passionate focus on building vintage hot rods. I have a million hobbies and an interest in literally everything. So now the 64 dollar question: How does vibration play a role in the paranormal and how would you filter out the “noise” from the human realm?

Hi, can you make it somehow make it IOT wireless so we can check in Blynk app maybe? and im still confuse with the circuit

This circuit is very simple. Think of it as a simple sensor. It does NOT include the microcontroller circuitry. The circuit, as shown, simply detects the voltage coming out of a piezo element and lights up an LED- That’s it. However, you can easily extend the circuit yourself in the way you’re asking... Instead of using an LED on the output (as shown), just connect the output to an input pin of an ESP8266 (or any other IOT or Arduino device) and just write the software to detect the signal on that input, and it will work exactly as you want. This is the key to understanding this and making it work the way you want: Treat this circuit as you would any other “arduino” style sensor with a simple digital output. Just look up any Arduino circuit that uses any simple digital input or sensor. For example, search “arduino push button” then use the output of this circuit in place of the pushbutton. Good luck! And remember, create SIMPLE CIRCUITS and test them first, before you make them more complicated. Don’t start with IOT. Get this circuit to light an LED first. Then feed the output into a simple Arduino. Once you get those working, then move to IOT.

My first experience with noticing a car was when Dad bought a 1959 Dodge Sierra Spectator D500. Red and white, with a/c in the front and the back! As it turned out, I developed a love for long roofs because of it. My first HEMI experience came when I had the fortune of buying a 392 out of a 58 Imperial, along with the transmission and rear end assembly. It ran well [car was totaled from the rear] and was complete. With lots of help, that combination found its way into a 34 Vicky. Spent a couple years putting it together, never did get it painted. Owned it for 8 years. Sure do wish I'd kept it. Nice job on your engine. How did the EFI work? No such animal back in the 60s...that was practical. The MOPAR unit was unobtanium and didn't work well, anyhow...
