I was a freight solicitor, dispatcher, broker, and more in the 1980's. One good question, if you quote a trucker a rate and they want to know if it's negotiable, tell them, yes, you could pay them less if that rate is too much money!...and we did it all over the phone, no email, no cell phones, no texts, no computers (other than a pencil and paper)
@AlfaXLogistics17 сағат бұрын
It is interesting to see how far the industry has come, from fax machines and landlines to online load boards and apps! Now some brokers prefer email only communication.

The ability to look in the Yellow Pages for manufacturers, then to drive over to their plant and ask if they have any shipments that go your way used to be pretty simple for a Gypo Trucker. But being there with a truck is the most potent method of getting freight.
@AlfaXLogistics5 күн бұрын
You are correct, but you have to be careful as many Broker-Carrier contracts have "no solicitation" clause. So, if you are there on a brokered load and try to gain new business, it may have consequences.
@danielhutchinson66045 күн бұрын
@@AlfaXLogistics It was considered in poor taste to solicit while unloading. I was moving Flatbed LTL shipments most of the time. I understand the implications of appropriating Freight you know is served by someone reliable. It does appear to be overlooked if the Shipper has been waiting a few weeks for a Carrier to get a truck to their facility.

Thank you for the video. I had a driver picking up from a Construction site in a big city where there was little room in the street to load and he was forced to park partially on one of the 2-3 railroad tracks in order to get loaded. He asked me to cancel the load and get him something else right away. There was no other good load coming out at the time, so after a delay and some manuevering on a congested road, he was loaded. In this type of situation, should I have cancelled the load due to a dangerous loading situation even though nothing else was available until the next day? Now that I'm writing this out, it seems like cancelling would have been the right move.
@AlfaXLogistics2 ай бұрын
The ultimate decision is with you client. Your job would be to inform the client about alternative load options (or lack of) and then your client could decide what they would rather do. Mainly you want to avoid situations where you "force" your client into doing something that might be illegal, unsafe or uncomfortable.

how can i start truck dispatching as a beginner
@AlfaXLogistics9 ай бұрын
Starting truck dispatching as a beginner can be an exciting journey. Here are some steps to help you get started: 1. Do Your Research: Begin by familiarizing yourself with the truck dispatching industry. Learn about the responsibilities of a truck dispatcher, the skills required, and the overall operations of the industry. You can find resources such as books, blogs, forums, and KZbin videos to gain knowledge about truck dispatching. 2. Select a Suitable Training Program: Choose a training program that is tailored to your needs and provides comprehensive training on truck dispatching. Look for programs that cover topics such as load booking, negotiation, paperwork, and communication skills. LearnDispatch offers online truck dispatcher training courses that are suitable for beginners. 3. Gain Experience: After completing your training, look for opportunities to gain experience in the real world. Consider internships or entry-level jobs in the transportation industry to apply your knowledge and learn from experienced professionals. This practical experience will help you further develop your skills as a truck dispatcher. 4. Consider Starting Your Own Dispatching Service: Once you have gained sufficient experience and feel confident in your skills, you may consider starting your own dispatching service. This allows you to be your own boss and have more control over your business. However, starting a business requires careful planning, including creating a business plan, setting up legal and financial aspects, and marketing your services. Remember, starting as a beginner may require patience and persistence. It's important to continuously learn, adapt, and improve your skills as you progress in your truck dispatching career. If you have any specific questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask!

Ty, in current market conditions, most Dry Vans gross $4k-$6k. Flats can do better with $6-$8k. Some specialty trailers or teams may do more, but getting $10k in gross every week for a trucking company will be challenging... at least in current market conditions.
