Hey, Thanks for the explanation I really appreciate how you detail everything, can u help me with this question please : Instead of a 2.5 SATA I want to install another M.2 SSD without removing the one that is originally there, so is there a slot to plug-in another M2.0 SSD ? I can see on the screen another contact (just near the SATA contact) which is similar to the one connected to the original NVMe, can I use that one ? I imagine I have enough space for a 1TB M.2 there if I don't have any SATA, confirm please. Thanks in advance.

It's a pity the AMD version only comes within a 52.5Wh battery (in my region anyway). I still have a P14s with the Ryzen 7 5850u, and it's still pretty good. I use it as a Linux workstation, and replaced the trackpad with a glass one (it make so much difference!). Even with its old tiny battery, I'm squeezing around 8 hours of light use out of it (just browsing, and doing stuff on the terminal). Looks like I might go for a TongFang GX4 this time around...

How does battery life on general chrome browsing with light multitasking and such compare to the G14? The 2024 G14 and this Thinkpad are my top contenders for my next machine
@Slap_Tech7 күн бұрын
If you play a lot of PC games, get the G14 and use GHelper. I only prefer the P14s because it matters how I present myself while running meetings that follow Robert's Rules of Order. Battery life should be about the same and shouldn't steer you in one direction or the other. Same battery size, and with GHelper the AMD R9 will sip battery juice just as well as the CU7. Sure, the OLED panel on the G14 is going to cut down the battery by a noticeable margin, but that's the price you pay for near-zero ghosting.
@tac41377 күн бұрын
@ Interesting. I don’t particular care much about the aesthetics or the price. I mostly just want something that can run cool-ish and get decent battery life while doing light multitasking, with the capability to do heavier multitasking at times. The G14 actually looks kinda compelling with its nice screen and gaming capabilities, not that I really game a ton. The option just seems nice, though. I’m just having a difficult time between these two. I have a P1 Gen 7 from work and have really liked it, which is why I figured I’d just stick with a Thinkpad for a personal Windows device. The 2024 G14 just keeps catching my eye. Any advice?
@Slap_Tech7 күн бұрын
@@tac4137 Then get the ThinkPad P14s. Use Device Manager to disable the RTX 500 to reap all dat battery life in Energy Saver and still have plenty of performance for light multi-tasking, all while getting ultra-cool temps and almost zero fan noise. If you want to play modern games, turn the RTX 500 back on and be able to play anything. Plus it's literally the body of a miniature P1 and will feel uber familiar. Plus it's more reliable than the G14 and you'll appreciate the much higher build quality.

Three ways to connect an external monitor and all three having the same issue, a white screen with some colors at the top end. The puzzling part is that the mouse cursor on the white display looks and behaves perfectly normal. I assume the graphics card has some dedicated video memory for the external display and that went bad.

Hi mate, thanks for the video. Was considering this exact model as well and wanting to ask you some questions if ok. Sorry I may have missed it in the vid content, but does this NVIDIA model of the P14s gen 5 also come with an Intel Arc integrated GPU, or just a basic Intel integrated GPU? The official Lenovo specs pdf is rather unclear on this and was a bit concerned. Cheers.
@Slap_Tech8 күн бұрын
Yes, it does have Intel Arc graphics. You can use the Nvidia settings to set it to "prefer integrated graphics," but this doesn't guarantee your program (or game) will use the Arc iGPU. You'll have to use Device Manager to disable the RTX 500 in order to use only the Arc GPU at all times. It's not as user-friendly as Nvidia Optimus, but in Balanced mode on battery power you'll get 90 percent of total iGPU performance and the battery will last for about 2 hours of PC gaming.

Thank you so much for the review! You are the only person with the ada500 and 3k ips display spec. Can you report on the fan noise for medium load (20 tabs, Microsoft office, light to medium coding, teams, slack/discord). If in balance mode would the fans spin too much? Also, battery life for such use case with 65% brightness. Thank you so much!
@Slap_Tech9 күн бұрын
This P14s Intel model can handle anything on Battery Saver, where it scores over 8K in Cinebench R23. That's enough for 4K video editing for the more patient PC users. In the use case you described, you should be able to leave it in Battery Saver and thus expect 5-6 hours of internet/work use in 60Hz mode at 65% brightness with Nvidia Control Panel set to prefer the integrated GPU. Fan noise will be nearly nonexistent at that point. They'll still spin, but at the slowest, most indiscernible speed. If you're still dead set on using Balanced mode with Nvidia Control Panel set to Auto, I would expect battery life of just under 4 hours with plenty more fan noise, which is very subdued and isn't shrill like other laptops. This renders a decibel rating pointless as your brain will easily tune it out. I would not worry a single iota about fan noise on the P14s.

I’m an engineering student and I’ve been very interested in the P14s because it has ISV certifications for applications like solidworks. Happened to me today: with the original sodimm ram speed was 5600Mts as it should be, adding another 5600Mts rated bank and velocity was downgraded to 3200Mts. Almots half. There is no option in BIOS to set ram frequency and no windows program can set it either (you cant even install ryzen master for example). So you can upgrade but the you loose frequency... almost useless imo

Those buttons are designed for the thumbs of home-row typers who use the TrackPoint as their mouse. The TrackPad used to have its own dedicated physical buttons integrated into the actual TrackPad assembly itself, but Lenovo took them from us after the P53/P73. No phone call. No text.
