Very smart. I am a continual backpacker and made myself a reflectix pot cozy and sleeping pad layer as well, but I will now add this meal cozy to my inventory. I am just surprised you did not put a cozy on your beer...

question? what exactly are you supposed to do with the cooking cozy what is the Cozy what's the purpose of it you cook your meal at home and put it in that bag and it stays warm to get where you're going to Camp or what ? what is that for?

I made a few, but opted to form a tuck in the bottom...it'll still stand on its own, but will also fold flat when not in use. When not in use, it also doubles as protective sleeve for my solar panel.

thanks but i personally would hesitate from adding boiling water in a plastic bag. some think if the plastic is thick it is safe to add boiling water. polyethylene plastic starts softening around 195F (mainly depending on elevation) and boiling water is around 212F. stay health!

nicely done. Not sure about folding flat when you are done though. Stand up is a better solution. ...... Spiced apple? Sounds horrendous.

If it's perfect you get to brag that you built it while drinking If it's not perfect you can blame it on the beer There were many cars discussed what might be the matter with them while we drank lottsa beer

You can also get cheap insulator sheet by going to the dollar store and getting a accordian style car sunscreen.

I’ve made cozy’s for all of my stainless steel containers and will definitely be making a meal cozy! Thanks for sharing! I wonder if I was to get the larger size if I could make a cozy for my self inflating sleep pad since it’s not insulated... gears are turning! Lol

They do sell the wider (I think up to 48 inches wide) reflectix at Home Depot. You could certainly make a large "envelope" just like this to fit a sleeping pad. My only thought is that it would be quite bulky. It'd be great for car camping though!

I recently used the product put in on the bottom of my tent floor it made is much nicer to sit in my tent. It was freezing out however, a friend of my that it would be great if I tried sleeping on ice. He got 7 bags of ice (note I'm ony 4'10 and 100lbs) it was a little lumpy however, I was not freezing which was good. Plus it was dry inside the floor of my tent. However, my only draw back was my air pad is not insulated so the air pad was still cold. I decided used my according pad on top of my air pad that that did work great. I really liked your tip on the pot cozy. However, I have not tried reflectix above 10,000 feet and was wonder how it would work with air pressure. What you tried reflectix above 10,000 feet? If you would like to contact me, my email is [email protected]. thank you for the great advice on the cozy. Warm Regards, Vicki Retzlaff

I've actually used reflectix at about 10,500 feet in Yosemite without problems! It's basically bubble wrap with two layers of mylar on each side, so it may expand microscopically with the reduced air pressure, but nothing that would affect the performance!

Nice bucket should be $25 not $35 and the company would still make a nice profit on it.

That is a good cozy, and excellent advice about not ignoring the beer, the only thing worse than a cold camp meal is a warm beer.

Holy crap. I could sleep in that thing!

+RT Steele haha yes, this one is double in size from a normal freeze dried meal, but the process is the same regardless of size. I've used this one when I'm steeping two or sometimes three meals at once. I've also kept my water bladder in it overnight to keep it from freezing solid.

The quickest way to ruin a long day of hiking is with a cold, under cooked dinner! Solution: Make yourself a cook-in cozy to steep your freeze dried meals in!

+RESTLESS OUTDOORS it certainly does! When I'm solo, one full bucket will last me about 24 hours, with (usually) enough left to put out the fire before I depart. Thanks!

There are essential pieces of gear to take with you on a hike, and then there is the knife. It is far and away the most important tool that man has created. I never go anywhere without my Opinel Folding Knife. It's my "every day carry" (EDC), and stays in my pocket both at work and on a hike, always at the ready.

Heya Mike it's "johnspenn" from Hammock Forums. Enjoyed the review, that looks like a really useful piece of equipment. I'll post it around a few places. If you're considering becoming a donating member on the forum you could post your video in the Camp Kitchen portion of that forum, the guys and gals would probably appreciate it. If you want me to post it there for you I'd be happy to as well. Semper Fi! looking forward to more so i subbed your channel!
