I can’t find the video for the 60th anniversary 63. Was it taken down?
@Viragoh-16 күн бұрын
EJ, I am super late to the party as a millenial who has inherited his father's original 64' just recently. Thanks to you, I have been able to restore my father's bass to working conditions and reignited a flame in his old soul. I couldn't have done it without you and would love to shoot you an email albeit I do not have most social media. Your videos and the knowledge you have shared on this channel has been a gift and a treasure. Thank you. Cheers and I hope you post more in the near future! -V

Forgive me but this comment is not about this video, I couldn't comment on the video that I was watching because, comments were paused temporary. In that video you was talking about the contemporary compared to the hollow base. I saw a video @ Pepo Vidal In KZbin and said he went to Germany at Hofner and he spoke with them and he ask the same question that everyone make about the bass guitar with the center wood inside, and they said the reason for that was to change the sound on the guitar and not make it sound like the others that they make...I have been dieing to drop a comment 😊 thank you

Hello EJ I wrote to you a while back about a hofner ignition I updated with German hardware and sent you pics and you replied and liked it. I am writing to ask you a what I call a nutty question LOL. Is it at all possible to acquire an old used HCT hofner violin bass and somehow remove the back by cutting into it and drilling holes in the sustain block area therefore making it much more hollow without sacrificing the structure of the violin area and therefore saving lots of money that I cannot afford to buy an actual German bass and giving the HCT that hollow sound. I know it's a crazy thought but a very interesting thought. Please let me know. Sincerely Steve

EJ thanks for all the great informative videos, I would like to ask for a couple minutes of your time to answer a question I have a newer Hofner contemporary 500/1 im looking for a new control panel looking online there are multiples to choose from the Hofner site does not show one to fit, I would prefer to buy the German made. Can you maybe point me in the right direction. Thank You.

Thanks EJ! Yeah, I'd love a FB page about working on our Hofner basses. I'm in the process of a 500/1 build at the moment... all Hofner parts collected over 12 years...

Is the HCT donor neck bound? It looks like its either not bound, or the binding is very well painted?
@BackbeatVintage4 ай бұрын
it was but I removed the binding. reworked neck and filed fret ends.

Great to see you back EJ, and big YES to a Facebook group page. There are a few Hofner bass pages I belong to which I'm sure you know about, and I think a lot of the people from those pages would join yours for sure. Your videos and advice really helped me recently when I had my luthier install the Staple-Tab pickups into my original 85' 500/1. A process that can be a little bit tricky, but with your help he got it done, so thx again!

Hi EJ! I have what I believe is a 1967 500/1. The pots are dated 67, has the older neck heal with the threaded rod BUT has the smaller decal logo. Have you seen this before? Thanks!
@BackbeatVintage4 ай бұрын
Hi, yes …hofner uses whatever they had in stock back then. Its most likely a cross over bass getting some of the standard parts and some of the newer parts like the logo. Smaller logo for a few years in 68.

21:10- E.J. commits the new sin, pronouncing Rickenbacker as "RickenBOCKer" (like we all did for decades) instead of "RickenbBACKer" as is now required by purists.

Are you going to keep the donor bass blond with the black binding? It looks great that way. I know that Höfner offered a blond 500/1 at one time. Also, have you done or can you do a comparison of the standard pickup layout vs. the Cavern layout? I’d like to hear the difference that the relocated bridge pickup makes to the sound of the bass. I’d be interested in a FB group.

Nice update, EJ, you look too young to be retired! 😂 I'd like to see Paul's recently found bass taken back to factory original circa 1961/2. Never liked the refinished look, especially the double block pick up surround! Hopefully someone can sort out the neck issue? Whatever they do, it'll be good to see it being played again 👍😃

Isit a ply? I got the impression it was a prototype,maybe a one off which was solid wood,might be wrong,though! I have heard paul goesn't want the finish redone,he wants it left as is,hole he's going to show it to all when finished! It has a curved back,which is not what hofner had been saying prior to finding it! Did you gwt my emails btw!

Hello EJ. I wrote to you over two years ago about my hofner ignition and how I took your advice and added all German hardware and a zero fret, and you replied and liked it. Thank you for that>. My question is I bought a Hofner shorty violin bass and should get it tomorrow. I believe that it is possible to add a 2nd pickup to it and replace the volume and tone with a hofner control switch platen the same area. Have you thought of trying that? It would be awesome to see. I am not sure that I can do this, I would need to have someone that knows how. the pickup space would probably have to be routered because im sure the bass is not hollow. Please let me know your thoughts.Thank you for your time. Steve in Tennessee

hello my hofner bass has pot code 393 (sep 63) not a razed logo like normal 64,but everyone on the facebook group says its a 64 as it has a bound neck and a selmer bnack of head stock number of 399,,,,any ideas about it plz anmyone ?
@chriss3838 Жыл бұрын
As the folks in Facebook told you, yours is a 1964. Fact, no basses had binding in 1963. The codes on the pots are when the pots were made, not the bass. Not to be rude but ,I've seen your posts on Facebook. You seem to be waiting for someone to tell your your bass is a 1963, but it isn't.

random question about my 2016 gold label Hofner 501 bass .... if I run my finger from the body to the edge you can feel the binding ....ans you can feel the black pin stripe in the binding .... its not flush with body....is this normal or did it happen over time ?? I do not see any gaps .... any help would be great
