Hi, i had that cab too. I believe it was the T100? I had the head too that went with it. I believe on my instagram site there is a picture of it.. the compressor will help with those bass notes that sometimes make the speakers pop or rumble. You’ll like it. Thanks! EJ

There's not a great amount of info/feedback re Hofner basses here in the UK like there is in the USA. Your videos are particularly useful for we hofner players on this side of the Pond. Many thanks.

I've used a compressor at the start of my signal tone for about 13 years now, it evens the tone out completely if set right. It used to be a Boss CS-3 like yours, but now I use a Helix LT and use the modelled one in the unit. If you're someone like me who uses effects on the bass (octaver, pitch up, overdrive), it is invaluable, especially for the octaver to track the notes properly.

hey man! i really dig your videos, and i got to thinking, i have an ignition and would totally love an upgrade, do you sell hofners? if not, should i spend more money on a german, or would you reccomend a contemporary to get paul's sound (iv'e heard mixed reviews on those) -thanks!
@BackbeatVintage3 жыл бұрын
Hi! It depends. First I’d have to say a german bass in good shape is best. The hct bass sounds and looks exactly like the german once prugged in. If your looking for the acoustic sound for practice not plugged in the ignition is good plus the plugged in tone is close once modified. The ignition is a totally different neck and body. Best cost with very little mods is the hct. If german version is choice then a reissued german bass best. Thx! Ej

Hey EJ, I have a question can you do a video to show what to do when your neck pick up has tilted forward?
@BackbeatVintage3 жыл бұрын
Hi, you just need to loosen the small set screws on the side of the plastic PU surround and straighten it out and retighten. Dont over tighten or the plastic surround will split. Try putting a piece of soft foam under the pickup for it to sit on. Thx! EJ

@BackbeatVintage3 жыл бұрын
Hi, there should always be a space between the body and neck whether reset or not. Is that what you mean? There are some exceptions like the 1970 hofner video I did on the channel.

E.J. , beautiful bass sound. The amp is a beauty. The 18" speaker gives it ,that early Beatles Love Me Do , "There's a Place , Mr. Moonlight vibe. Of course your playing helps too. The Hofner I bet has that smell of 1964 . I know, sounds weird huh ? But I bet you know what I mean.... Thanks E.J.

Sorry to come back again EJ but at 75 years young I tend to forget things :) What is the tiny hole in my tailpiece for please ? Right next to the nail/screw hole. Have a safe time.
@BackbeatVintage3 жыл бұрын
Hi Graham, its where the ground wire usually coming from the ground connection on the input jack gets grounded. Its a thin bare wire that goes from the input jack thru a small hole and out and is wrapped around the tail piece screw right next to where it comes out. Was needed back before amps had the three prong ground here in the states. I usually reconnect it anyway. Thx! EJ

Nice EJ! Just curious when you say things gas out when in the case...what do you mean?
@BackbeatVintage3 жыл бұрын
The old plastic used back in the fifties and sixties actually let off a strong smell (mild gas) that would make other plastic and lacqour paint yellow giving it that aged look. When left in a closed case with the guitar it sped up that yellowing that aged lacquor does anyway. Thx! Ej
@joefranz34223 жыл бұрын
@@BackbeatVintage were they nitro cellulose or some other different material?
@BackbeatVintage3 жыл бұрын
Vintage hofner 500/1 basses was nitrocellulose lacquer up until about 1970.
@EddieG18883 жыл бұрын
@@joefranz3422 I think the pearloid pickguard material from back then was celluloid. EJ's right, it would "gas off" over time, and it could be very flammable. Also, the pickguard would tend to shrink with age, you can see it on a lot of vintage Fenders.
