I know the Becker's report said 45% are considering dropping one or more plans, but it's a bit misleading since most hospitals accept multiple Medicare Advantage plans. Even if 45% drop one plan each, that's not the same as 45% of hospitals dropping all Medicare Advantage plans. Either way, still interesting!

‼️ PLAN D has tricks up their sleeve’s to give you ‘discounts’ on expensive medications. Sounds like a bargain, ha? NOPE… It’s a profitable for them maneuver. I buy using GoodRx discounts which are free. Don’t get conned into the pay version of Good RX. I fill meds at different stores for different meds and literally save over two thousand dollars a year! Don’t just fall for the “discount”, compare it and be flexible. One example Walgreens with the “D” discount wanted $345. This same prescription at Walmart was $124 with GoodRX. I use the D discount for all the cheap generics. Be a wise guy!

Thank you. Very fine and informative video. I would LOVE to hear what you have to say about non-RX Medicare Advantage plans for Tricare for Life Beneficiaries. Since Tricare for Life fully covers the balance of everything not paid for by Medicare Advantage programs (like $40 copays to see a specialist), is there ANY reason for someone like me NOT to get a Medicare Advantage plan? Right now, I don't see any downside, but you may have a different take on this.
@GiardiniMedicare
@GiardiniMedicare 4 күн бұрын
The Medicare Advantage plan would create networks and prior authorization requirements that you don't have with just Medicare and Tricare for Life. In rare cases, you may also have to file your claims with TFL directly if your doctors don't understand how to bill your MAPD and TFL. If you are okay with those restrictions, then you can certainly enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan without prescription coverage. I would at least lean towards a PPO with all of your providers in its network.
@alavinsky1
@alavinsky1 4 күн бұрын
@@GiardiniMedicare Thank you for the quick and informative reply. Yes, I would only consider a PPO plan and would never want to be subject to the limitations of an HMO. And yes, I know that there are providers (like my one specialist) who is not participating in my preferred Medicare Advantage program and I know that I'm subject to the $40 copay (only to be reimbursed), but I've been led to believe that since the PPO plan allows me to choose ANY doctor who takes Medicare without referrals, this will work almost exactly the same as regular Medicare in harmony with my Tricare for Life. I just have to cough up the $40 and wait for reimbursement. Can you think of any service that would NOT be covered under my Medicare Advantage AND TFL that is currently covered under my "classic" Medicare and TFT? Again, thanks for the great videos and your responsiveness!
@GiardiniMedicare
@GiardiniMedicare 4 күн бұрын
@@alavinsky1 1. You can see any provider that is willing to accept your PPO. They do not have the accept your plan or you as a a patient outside of an emergency, so this is not the same as having Original Medicare. 2. Having a PPO does not stop the prior authorization requirements that often come with Medicare Advantage plans. With that said, many people with TFL still choose a Medicare Advantage plan, but it will absolutely open you up to potential restrictions not present with Original Medicare. As long as you are aware of pros and the cons, that's all that matters! You can always disenroll from the MA plan later if you find it isn't meeting your needs.

The reason Advantage plans are so "popular" is because privatization is rampant with conservatives in congress even though this type of application is far more expensive for ALL taxpayers since investors, C suite and advertising costs are not even a part of traditional MC. These plans make money by restricting and denying care to needy patients. That is why healthcare providers are leaving networks at this time. Medicare "guides" make a higher commission from getting you into an Advantage plan so they will often guide you to that system without mentioning the traditional plan is still available.

We had tons of X-ray , MRI , CT scans and hundreds for doctors visits , we paid $0 . Besides the $160 every month for the supplement plan G. We saved thousands of $. Opposite form the advantage plan . We do not have to $ for copayments . More importantly than money in supplement plan we do not have to wait for the insurance company to decide and approve what Dr or procedure should be done. Do you know that some big cancer centers are no longer accepting the advantage plan . You will not mention this but you will mention free Gem membership 😊.it’s totally shame . We have the AARP supplement plan G. And we thank the Lord that we made the right choice.

I'm uncertain that the Part D price increases will worsen the pools of the Medigap plans, mostly because drug consumption is probably a pretty good surrogate marker of health. To the extent that unhealthier enrollees see higher Part D price increases than healthier enrollees, they will be more inclined to move to Part C. That is my guess anyway. Thanks for your excellent analysis of the new drug coverage rule, it's provided food for thought. I turned 65 last month and plan to keep working till 70 or perhaps past that. Since I have a Health Savings Account, I plan to not sign up for any part of Medicare for now. Close to 70, when I apply for SS, I'll also sign up for Part A, then Part B when I actually stop working. I'll have to stop the HSA six months before applying for SS and Part A. I had planned to go the Part A, Part B, Part D and Medigap route (perhaps Plan N), but now this upcoming drug coverage rule means some uncertainty. If my employer revises drug coverage to be equal to the new Medicare tule, then my plan holds. If not, I'll have to consider Medicare Advantage since it includes drug coverage. Which is weird, because the two meds I currently use/need cost a total of $8 a month. It's almost like these rules are being made to push more people into Medicare Advantage. And once you're there for a more than a year, there's no going back without underwriting.

Well youtube won't allow me to elaborate on my previous comment. People retiring with 200k in annual income are not watching this video. That might be 0.01% of retirees. Then there are real people who have busted their tails all of their lives and then get screwed by this monstrosity of a train-wreck. I'm there and in the middle of the train-wreck. We'll be fine, but if you create a system that generates yet another industry (medicare consultants) you did something very, very wrong. 4:17 is your clue. The government outsourced your healthcare. 5:00 - the HMO / PPO description. This part just angers me. For the past 30 years from employer to employer ALL OF MY HEALTHCARE COVERAGE has been in a PPO plan. I did 5 years or so on Kaiser as a personal healthcare plan, then Obama made the system worse, tripled my rates and had to drop them. The fact of the matter is that MOST Americans are on PPO plans, so pointing this out is sort of a "duh" moment. It just doesn't matter.

@GiardiniMedicare 15 күн бұрын
While it's true that most people with employer coverage are enrolled in a PPO, that's not the case for those with Medicare Advantage, so it's always good to bring this up in my opinion! Also, brokers exist in basically every insurance market, so I wouldn't say it's a sign of failure, but definitely a sign that it is too confusing. The alternative would be giving consumers no choices for coverage, which probably isn't a good solution either. Either way, thanks for watching and for the comments!
