Good video and thanks for the information. I have an Air M2 and had to replace the sensor, also due to water damage. But the new sensor is not responding at all. Could it be that I have to turn the magnet 180°? Just wanted to ask before I take everything apart. Thanks

Yes, when you turn it, be very careful. First, try to turn it counterclockwise 90 degrees.

was just screwing the bracket for lid angle sensor back down and the top of the screw broke off, I wasn't using any excess force, so lmao be careful these overpriced and over engineered computers come with cheapo screws

You would save money in labor by getting the calibration tool. I'd rather buy the tool than remove the LCD every time...

Just showing people there is another way to solve the issue. I heard that tool does not work with original apple lid sensor, I’m not sure if it’s true or not.

Chances are most folks needing to recalibrate the sensor are doing so because they're replacing the screen. So not such a big deal to do while the MB is already disassembled enough to detach/reattach the display.

Does this method work to recalibrate the original Apple sensor after display replacement? I've done a screen replacement with aftermarket screen and the display doesn't turn off/sleep when the lid is closed.

@@ahatron8640 Great! Thanks for the reply, the problem I'm having is the display stays on while it is open and even fully opened - it doesn't go black/sleep at all, even when closed. This means I'm not able to mark the angle sensor correctly as the screen doesn't turn off. The angle sensor is definitely still working with the old (broken) screen fitted. Do you have any suggestions for a display that just stays on all the time even with the lid closed? Thanks again.

the logic board you were repairing was a 512GB varient (i.e 5X tsb4227) and also it has a T2 chip of 1GB ram . but the ssd you installed was 1TB ( 6 x TSB 4228) and the system will not be restored with apple configurator it will give error 9 . 1TB ssd is not supported in 512gb varient . so how did you manage to restore the system ? did you changed the T2 too???

If you set too high, plastic parts will be melted. Between 350-400c is ideal.

This happened to me also. Just a slight turn and the whole magnet sheared off. I'd think twice about using this method to fix the issue!

That sensor can be easily calibrated without any tool from apple. So please dont say something that you not know :)

Wow you SAVED me. The seller i get the displays through had the magnets aligned 180 degrees in the opposite direction. it was hard to rotate because they glued it. had to use flush cutters to get enough grip actually..... but aligning the little symbol parallel with the display solved the problem, flickering display, no keyboard, no trackpad. now everything is good to go. wouldn't have even thought about the circular position of the magnet had i not come across your video.... thank you
