Bore diameter doesn’t matter, rule #1 is fill the Throat, so you need to know Throat Diameter! Fill the Throat, you fill the Bore!! .002-.003 over Throat diameter, .002 over bore may work 60% of the time, but for Extreme Hardcast accuracy “FILL THE THROAT”

I just sanded the tip of a 5.56 FMJ just enough to see a tiny tiny bit of lead not even the size of a grain of sand. There is no way in hell it is spitting lead out of this tiny hole. Now will there be expansion? I dunno. Will it dump energy faster with flat tip? Probably. Guess ill have to get some gel block tests done since noone wants to do this.

HP and SP 55gr bullets are cheap. Not worth the risk IMO. I have seen one separate on one occasion and leave a copper ring in the barrel.

Nice video! There's surprisingly little about primer flow on the web, so this was very helpful. I don't reload (yet), but i was getting primer flow with some hot bear defense rounds in a revolver.

...but how do you seperate the tin from other metals in pewter?
@Namerifrats
@Namerifrats 3 ай бұрын
Why would you wanna separate it? Melt it as is, and add small amounts to main pot you're casting from. Pewter is typically 85-99% tin. Any additional metals are small. Those are usually copper or Antimony, which acts to harden lead, so that's an added benefit. No need to separate it.

2 years into the primary school did you live in in a fantasy world if you're going to continue to keep reloading you got to figure things out
@Namerifrats
@Namerifrats 4 ай бұрын
No fantasy world. I was smart enough to figure it out BEFORE an election year. I stocked over a couple yrs preceeding all the bs since 2020. I'm set on ammo and components for 7-8 years at a minimum. 10 easy if I stretch it.

Nice video. You said because of lead dust in the dry tumbler. What do you mean?
@Namerifrats
@Namerifrats 4 ай бұрын
Most primers use a priming compound that contains lead. When you dry tumble, especially when separating the media from the brass, you are exposed to dust containing lead. The fine dust also coats your "clean" brass and gets all over you press, dies, bench, hands, clothes, furniture, etc. When wet tumbling, there is no dust.

Thanks. You did a good job of laying it out. Beginning reloaders should take heed and avoid reloading these kinds of cases. I suspect experienced reloaders already know better. This was an excellent basic intro. Very nicely done!

It’s odd Lee Precision actually has in there instructions to use a beeswax candle to smoke there molds, I did that and ended up with wax residue in my cavities, bullets came out very wrinkled, hopefully a good cleaning with correct the issue. I will get some denatured alcohol for sure. I’m new at casting and this video helped a lot, thanks

A few minutes ago, I experienced my first split case. I was firing a 300 grain lead bullet in a .44 Special brass case over 15 grains of Winchester 296 powder. Yeah, it's a pretty hot load. Gun was a Ruger New Model Blackhawk Bisley. I attributed it to brass just getting brittle after being fired with hot experimental loads and reloaded several times. This is not a load I need very often as Wisconsin is relatively short of grizzly bears and other large/dangerous predators. Mildly irritating, but not all that exciting really. It happens. Nice video. I'm happy to see that this happens to others occasionally as well.

Brass splits and case head separations are both aggravating. I had a couple cases split. Just from being old and at the end of their life. Never had one split from hot loads. I typically stick to mid range to upper mid range loads. I rarely load maximum and never exceed max loads.

SoS. my 240 gr 44 bullet mold results in 250-255 weighted bullets. bullets mostly look vg. even after sizing. is the mold marked incorrectly? thnx. pete
@Namerifrats
@Namerifrats 6 ай бұрын
That's most likely an issue with alloy. Your lead content is higher than your Antimony/tin. Makes the bullet heavier. Mood weights as based on whatever alloy they used when designing it. Usually something like Lyman #2 in most cases.

I will definitely convert from dry media to wet w/pins. I do get real good results with dry media but, it does not clean the primer pockets or inside the case. Thank you for your help especially since I responded to an older video.

He’s giving the best advice you’ll ever see on Dumb Tube. I have loaded for 40 years and have never switched pistol and rifle primers. You especially don’t want to use a pistol primer in a rifle period! People need to realize you are working with Rocket science when reloading and when you make mistakes it can kill you. Let’s not even mention the maiming people get when they make a mistake with explosives! These manuals where made to keep you safe when using the manufactures product. So ya all want to use the wrong primers ? Remember you not only risk your life but you are responsible for the safety of your ammunition not only for yourself but any bystanders near by.

Why 357 and 9mm together?
@Namerifrats

Because they are close enough in diameter to not fit inside the other. I had 200 357Mag left over to clean from a large batch of 357Mag and 38Spl I ran yesterday.

When I dry brass I just use one of those little ceramic heaters blowing into a box underneath the brass and the hot air flows through the brass on the mesh. I also towel off the brass first so it doesn't leave water spots.

YES IT CAN BE DONE, Not the Greatest idea because some people will screw it up. They did this with old Surplus Military ammo, for deer, moose hunting in Finnland ect. They nipped a small portion off the tip, and some drilled a 1/16 hole in tip, to get it to expand, AND SOME NAT BRAINS, Cut off to much and you know what happened to their barrels.

I've been using a 45 gal. trash can with 3 feet of kitty litter and sand mix with about 6 kitchen mats folded to fit topped with 5/16 plywood with 4 inch hole in center. I shot 22. 22mag, 38, 357mag, 9mm. 40s&w, 45acp, 44mag, 12ga slugs and oo buckshot, 20ga 327mag. Most penatrated 1/2 way. Hollow points really tear up rugs.

I have a similar design that I posted to Odysee under the tag, SCSM Ezra’s gat trap. It’s got a similar use of mulch but it’s got a layer under of sand and then the bucket itself is lined with cement and I’ve shotten a few thousand rounds of 9mm and 5.56 in my garage into it
