I ice dye using dharma. Peony splits really well as does orchid, sweet pea and similar colors. I think they split because they all contain some fuchsia and some cyan, both primary colors. One way to tell is colors that dharma labels with a T for turquoise because they recommend Glauber salt for tub dyeing those colors PLUS colors that don’t look anything like turquoise because you think, wow, I wouldn’t have guessed that color contained turquoise but they do.

Just started ice dying after a few years of regular squirt bottle dye. This is crazy. I love it.

I’m such a worry wort when it comes to my colors “playing nice” and not becoming mud, that I almost always get this: blues and magentas/reds … I gotta take the leap, take the risk: and add colors that MAY not play well together, because otherwise I’ll keep getting ones like this one: nice, but just nice.

Have you tried "painting" the indigo on? Apparently you can use sodium alginate as a thickening agent for procion dye. Not sure how it would work with indigo. Love the glue resist! I am going to do this on some upholstery fabric and reupholster a chair. Cant wait!

do you prefer this over the craft glue method? Glue seems so much more convenient and cheaper. Would glue be ok for a heavy cotton twill like thin denim? Thanks for all your experimenting!

Thanks again for another fabulous video. Do you have any suggestions on whether we should use different diameter PVC pipes for different effects, and how long a piece should we buy? Are different-diameter pipes useful for creating different styles of designs? Cheers as always. Ray from Seattle.

Thank you for such a clear and concise explanation of the process. I am about to embark on my Shibori journey. I noticed it was a little time-consuming to remove the strings. Do you think a garment sower’s seam ripper tool might work to quickly remove the ties? Cheers, sincerely Ray from Seattle.

So no need to dry the chemicals on the shirt before placing the leaves and putting into the sun? I am going to be trying to do some placemats and didn't want to dip the entire thing in the chemicals, just paint the chemical on. I thought I might have to then dry them before placing the botanicals before laying out in the sun, but it looks like I can just paint and go?
