Hey Jared, thanks for the question! The short answer is they handle surprisingly well! Sure, they’re not race skis, but they’ve got the right sidecut for open GS-style turns rather than those short, technical ones. Thanks to a decent amount of camber and a relatively stiff, poppy build, they’ve got plenty of grip when you’re ready to let loose and rip. We had full confidence on fast reds and mellower blacks that you could crank over the edges and let them do their thing. Hope this gives you a better idea!

Sorry super late. But I’m more of a groomer skier on blacks, blues. Tree runs. I’ve been practicing to Do switches, 180s and etc to my game. Would these be good for that or should I go one higher that is mainly a groomer ski and has features to Do jumps

The Armada ARV96 is a solid choice for what you’re looking to do. It’s versatile enough for groomers, blacks, blues, and tree runs, and it handles 180s and other small tricks really well (as you'll no doubt look to the next trick once the 180s are dialled in). If you want to charge harder, you may want to consider stiffer twin tips, but we certainly didn't feel these were lacking on the piste during our tests. Hope that helps 🙂

It's also worth noting that these are an older model. The ARV 94 would be the more recent version.

@@Jared_morrow If it's Armada that you want then choose between the ARV 94 and 100 depending on whether you want the extra width of the 100, the Edollo is wrong for what you want. But, if you are thinking 100 underfoot, then definitely take a look at the Stranger as it fits your initial description better than the AR models.

If the Q5 is aimed at intermediates, and is on par with the Forza 50, then is it true to say the Q4 is on par with the Forza 40 and it is aimed at Beginner/Intermediates?

Hi, thanks for the question. As you note in your comment, the difference between the performance levels of the 2 families is similar. With the Forza, the shape is almost identical between 40 and 50, it’s just elements of the construction that make the difference (the 50 uses a V-carbon alloy Matrix and the 40 V-Fibre Glass, making the 40 more forgiving). On the Redster skis, the 5 and the 4 have the same shape, the difference comes from an extra layer of metal stabiliser in the 5, which makes the ski feel more precise, whereas the 4 has a more forgiving nature, making it more suited to lower-level intermediates or skiers who won’t ski so fast. Thanks Danny! I didn't time them - I planned for 5 mins but all the faffing took longer especially on the last one getting into a full length wetsuit for Derwentwater. Next time would probably stay in the shortie swimrun wetsuit for the whole duration to save time!

@@corn5341The 100mm fits, but only just and may need some adjusting depending on the exact mount position. The 115mm fits nicely, there isn’t loads of excessive overhang. So, we’d recommend the 115mm brake. Hope that is useful.

Hello! Considering your skill level, height, and weight, we recommend looking at the 168 cm version. This length provides an ideal balance of stability at speed and manoeuvrability at lower speeds. Happy skiing!

Thank you for your kind comment! Considering your skill level, height, and weight, we’d recommend checking out the 170cm or 163cm versions. The 170 will have a balance of stability at speed and manoeuvrability, but the 163 will feel more manoeuvrable at slower speeds. This will come down to personal preference so, if possible, try demoing both lengths to find your perfect fit.

The best bet is to come in-store with your base layer and mid layers so you can try the shells on over the top. Different brands have slightly different fits and you might also find that the next size up might be too big when you don’t have the insulating layer on. Hope this helps Thanks, Andy

Maverick 100ti will feel more powerful and plough through the chop with ease compared to the Backland. If you are looking to save weight for the way up though, and mainly using it in fresh powder then the Backland will be a great choice. Nice and light and the HRZN Tech tip really helps to float the ski in soft snow. The Marverick will feel more stable in more variable conditions though with the Ti layer helping the dampen vibrations for more all mountain use. - Luke

Enjoyed this review! You guys doing an amazing job describing, and the attention to detail is fantastic! On that note, I’m 5-10 200 pounds, I consider myself an intermediate skier, ski mostly on groomers, comfortable on blacks, double blacks I do very cautiously, and on rare occasions I’ll go off piste. I just came off the Volkl mantras M6 @ 177 cm and they kicked my butt. Not to mention my legs were done at the end of the day, I did enjoy them and they were great, but it was a bit too much. I prefer maneuverability and control over speed. I know many will say that the 172 CM for my stats is a short ski, I really don’t want to go up to the 180cm. Hence the reason why I would like to go with the black edition for more stability considering the two extra rods that I’ve been inserted into the ski, Will the 172 CM be able to sustain my height and weight and still be able to enjoy the mountain? I’m hesitant going with The regular Ripstick 96 as I feel that with my height and weight I may end up getting a lot of instability and chattering across the board. Most of my skiing is done out west, California, Utah. I’m not an aggressive skier, at 46 I am more cautious and alert, considering I’m coming off two rotator cuff surgeries, but I do like to come down bowls and get the occasional speed if the opportunity present itself. Thank you for your kind comments. We agree, the Mantra is pretty burly and can certainly take it out of you. The Ripstick Black Edition offers a bit more punch compared to the regular model and is aimed at advanced skiers, so is naturally stiffer than the standard model. However, don’t dismiss the regular Ripstick as it still performs well across the board and you can certainly give it some stick, plus you might say it feels more damp (in a positive way) than the Black Edition! Also, consider these options: Nordica Enforcer 94, Blizzard Rustler 9, Atomic Bent 100 (a slight curveball), Armada Declivity 92ti, or Head Kore 93. These are just a few alternatives. As far as length goes, remember that shorter skis are more manoeuvrable and quicker to turn, while longer skis are stable at high speeds and offer more flotation. If skis have larger rockers and set back contact points, you wouldn’t want to go too short. Length will ultimately come down to personal preference, so if possible, try a few out at our snowdome stores! -Mark

The Forza 50 is the best comparison in terms of ability, but you’re not really comparing like-with-like. The Forza has a shorter radius and slightly narrower waist, feeling quicker edge-to-edge; the Redster is wider and has a longer radius, it feels a bit slower from turn-to-turn but has more versatility in terms of conditions. If you’re skiing solely on pistes then the Forza is a better choice as it is stable enough to handle the conditions when the runs get choppy. Hope this helps!

Hi, how flexible should the ski boot be if I choose this ski to buy, in order to get maximum performance? Somebody told me 110 or 100 would be fine, but on the ski it was recomended 120. I am recreational skier who know to carve and ski roughly 7 days per season (although I'd like to spend more time on mountine). I'd like to have a ski and boots that would support me in my carving turns, however I do not want skiing to become nightmare with some stif equipment.

Thanks for the question Nikola. The stiffness or flex of the boot is related to you as the skier, as opposed to the ski. It’s going to depend on your weight (and to some extent your height), plus your level of skiing, in a very few cases the biomechanics of the skier may dictate a stiffer/higher flex boot too. The best thing is to visit one of our shops and the boot fitters can advise what would be appropriate. Ignoring your weight for the moment and going off your comments, a stiffer boot (120/130) isn’t required, and should you be heavier/more physical then possibly you’d be better looking at a stiffer ski too. Hi, considering the men version of this skis, for someone who is 187 cm tall what ski size would you like to suggest the 177 or 184 cm? They will be only used for touring in the Alps (couloirs, traverses, long aproaches etc, maybe some powder here and there depending on snow conditions).

Your weight is going to be important, as are previous skis/sizes. If you are lighter and are used to shorter skis then it’s the 177, which would be better for ascending and tighter descents; if you are a medium or heavier build you should look at the 184 which will be more stable. Thanks, Andy

How do i change if it's downpouring outside? take shelter under a tree and then remove my mid layer?

Great question! Navigating layer changes during a downpour can be tricky, but here's a helpful approach: Like you say, the best option might be to find shelter under a tree etc but if that’s not possible, position yourself out of the wind to avoid most of the rain. Swiftly remove your backpack and the layer you want to change while undercover, and put on the new layer as efficiently and quickly as possible. Minimize exposure by staying within the sheltered area. Practice this process beforehand for a smoother experience. Once changed, ensure your gear is properly packed away and continue your hike. Remember, staying dry is crucial for comfort and safety. Thanks, Andy
