Not so sure about not talking to the cashier, I don’t think I have ever experienced that. The Seattle Freeze is SUPER REAL! We stick to our friend groups and it’s hard to infiltrate our groups. That being said, in Seattle there are so many transplants that I think you’re seeing this change to some degree. December, you gotta get out into the mountains and out of the city! There are a lot of holidays events and things to do though. Just be ready to deal with the grey days. Our weather isn’t extreme but the lack of Sun is what really gets to people. The rain is not nearly as bad as it’s made out to be. Also Seattle is basically a shell of its former glory. The city politics really have messed up a beautiful and safe city. I hope that we are going to see real change but so far the last 10 years has been a downward spiral. The Eastside, Redmond, Bellevue, Kirkland and Issaquah area is how Seattle was before as far as cleanliness and less crime. I love the PNW but there is a big part of me that is ready to leave because of the self inflicted problems that have been created.

Thanks for your review of camera technique and the disadvantage of digital over film. Its a real art to compose digital photos that dont need editing. It would be interesting to hear your tips on how to do that. I'm guessing it has something to do with lighting. That film emulation feature sounds interesting. I've had to resort to using Gimp to fix up digital photos, but if there is a better way, and I am sure there is, it would be good to know how to do it.
@keithsdiary
@keithsdiary 3 күн бұрын
Thanks, Ken! The film simulation is the heavily lifter here! Similar to what photographers would do in Lightroom with something like a LUT, the Fujifilm Film Simulations bake in to the photos a unique look with no extra editing required. Some other camera brands, like the Ricoh camera I mentioned, also have a similar film simulation feature. I also use a glimmer glass filter on my camera lens, which softens the image a bit (to combat how sharp digital is) and has interesting effects to lighting! I would definitely recommend picking one up - I use the Tiffen Glimmer Glass 1.

Hi Keith, stumbling upon your channel was a lovely surprise! Any and all information and experiences you are able to share is extremely appreciated!
@keithsdiary
@keithsdiary 10 күн бұрын
Yes! I like my apartment quite a bit, though you do have to be careful with downtown sometimes. I would say living on the edge of downtown (ie, downtown but near lower Queen Anne, SLU, or Capitol Hill) is best if you're looking for a high rise situation because downtown doesn't have many local spots or grocery stores. Mostly you'll be venturing out to the other neighborhoods for that stuff. Otherwise, if you're happy to live in not a highrise the other neighborhoods around here are great! Cap Hill is very young, club, gay. Lower Queen Anne is nice, there's some good food there. SLU is calm but a little boring. Definitely also check out Fremont and Ballard! I think Fremont is my favorite neighborhood overall but it's too far from my work for me right now. Best of luck with the move!

Hey Keith - I'm glad to hear you're doing well and happy! I'm still in la, hanging out with hs friends and family which is really nice. But I'll be moving back to sf in september and was wondering - what did you do differently to make your experience in seattle so much better than in cali? I thought new grad life would be slower-paced and lonelier, but it sounds like you have a lot going on! Was it just the pedestal mindset shift, or did you actively make other changes? If so, what did you do?
@keithsdiary
@keithsdiary 26 күн бұрын
Ethan! How exciting!! The mindset shift that really worked for me was just having empathy & understanding for myself that it would probably take a couple years of work before I really felt settled here. When I went off to Berkeley for freshman year, I think I just expected everything to fall into place really quickly. And then it didn't and it took 2 years of hard work to get to a spot where I liked Berkeley, which led to a lot of disappointment along the way. So when moving to Seattle, thinking to myself "okay, this is probably going to take a year or two to figure out and it will probably be lonely at times and that's okay" really helped ground me. Also - it's work! I knew almost no one moving here, so bumble bff helped me meet a couple friends. Work colleagues from other new grad hires became outside of work friends, etc. I definitely did not expect to be this settled and busy so early on but feeling very satisfied and fulfilled! Goodluck in SF! I am rooting for you. Keep me posted :)

An insightful update on your first year in Seattle. As a former Seattle-ite, you captured in a few words the culture of the city, and the darkness that prevails in the long winter months, quickly forgotten in the brief summer months, that end with Bumbershoot. Hi Keith, Thank you for sharing your experience so far! I visited Seattle in April 2023 and ever since then I’ve wanted to go back. Just like you, I’ve always wanted to live in Seattle, hence the first visit. After visiting and coming back home to Florida, I’ve had this feeling inside me like there’s something missing. I honestly feel like I left a piece of my soul in Seattle. I’ve been planning on getting ready to move there, hopefully May2025. And just like you, I find myself doing the same thing of putting Seattle on a pedestal. Like when something happens here in my life right now that I do not like, I’m always like, well I’m not going to be here for much longer. Anyways, I’m glad shared this video and looking forward to seeing more from you.

Hey Jenn!! You're too kind :)) Goodluck on your move to Seattle! I spent a few years in the Bay Area as well and Seattle is very different but super cool! Especially the summer so far. A couple evening outing options: - Lots of good dessert spots. In the winter I enjoy Hot Cakes which serves chocolate lava cakes and in the summer after a hot day Molly Moons ice cream is local and super good! - There's some local arcade bars, axe throwing with friends, lots of beautiful sunset hikes here. There's also a hot tub boat that circles Lake Union where u and a few friends literally have a little private hot tub boat u control and can move about the bay. I still have a lot to explore here, but those are some things I've heard / done which fit the evening timeframe. Have a good move!!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this social issue, and for asking how your viewers approach this issue. Like you, I was initially concerned to wear some kind of protection, and I finally settled on a face shield as being more effective and practical due to the side effects of a mask( steaming up my glasses, restricting breathing, not protecting my eyes from exposure to pathogens, etc.). Now that time has gone by and we now have a more realistic assessment of utility of those paper masks (mostly limited to particulates like dust, etc.) it really comes down to good hygiene, a healthy diet, lots of clean fresh air and sunshine. Those disposable paper masks turn out to have no real benefit against nano particles, likely increase risk of infection by forcing you to accumulate toxins and breathe them over and over again, and when the mask is disposed it becomes toxic waste. Ordinary UV radiation from the sun is an effective disinfectant. I like your idea of showering after being in a place that is unhygenic. That probably does a lot of good in staying healthy.

I fully agree with you about the longer dates. If you're looking for something other than just sex or a hookup, dates that last longer tend to be the most memorable and give you a better impression of the person that you're spending that time with. It helps you see if there is a connection or not easier. I do prefer first dates / meetings to be at like coffee shops or something casual. I don't necessarily like the dinner and a movie type of first date / meeting because then you feel obligated to spend a longer period of time with person that you may not click with. That and movies don't really allow you to converse with a person to get to know them that well. The dinner portion may but the movie portion tends to be you sit in silence for about 2 hours with a person. But if you go out for coffee, if you click you can turn that into a dinner or dinner and a movie later that evening if you guys clicked

Love the video! Moving to Capitol Hill in June with my boyfriend from Tennessee. Definitely recommend Pegasus Coffee House on Bainbridge Island if you’re looking for a new spot to try out. Also - for bus, ferry, light rail - you can get an ORCA card at the light rail stations and auto-reload it on your phone to have one card for every transit system. It especially makes getting on the ferry a lot quicker!

Thank you! I will check out Pegasus Coffee House the next time I’m in Bainbridge! Thanks for the rec. And congratulations on moving here! I hope you end up loving Seattle. For ORCA, I actually prefer the Transit Go app because they have a rewards system that gives you points for using transit options, and those points can get you free tickets. When you sign up, they give you some initial points and just from those I’ve literally never had to spend money on a bus ticket because the rewards keep giving me more and more points LMAO. I think they start you off at like 750 points and now I’m up to 4000 just from riding the bus. A bus ticket is 275. Definitely check it out the next time you’re here!
