I love this solo but at around 0:50 could someone explain why everyone seems shocked? Is he doing something special that the average person would miss or something?

First time the edo period has hurd the tsugaru shamisen be played this way.nobody has played it this way yet in there time period in the movie. So when he finally lets it out and shows everybody his true skill they basically call it the fast paced rock type of shamisen playing.

"tsugaru jongara bushi" Is my favorite shamisen piece.... And so many people gonna come here after mashiro no oto(these snow White notes).... I really want more and more people to know about this because it's really so good.
