The shamisen has such a wonderful sound to it..it's one of my favorite traditional Japanese instruments to listen to. I started off my love of Japan thanks to old school anime from my mom and Kaiju movies with my dad, and my own love of games when I was very young, I moved into loving the history as I got older and learned more and I'd love to just go on a tour one day from one corner to the other and just see all the sights. But one thing I can honestly say I love the most is the music, it's always very relaxing to hear the traditional music.

this scene itself makes it a superior series than Mashiro 2021 reason being that it didn't cut off the Shamisen out for flash backs or side characters to give their inner thoughts about the sound. thats my biggest gripe against Mashiro as it consistently did this when anybody started playing. theres always someone speaking every 20 seconds and i just wanna focus on the Shamisen. the fact this scene soley focused the player and his music makes me smile Though to be fair, Mashiro could be considered drama first, music secondary bcos of that reason

@roockage actually if you think about the story, this scene in particular is all about fighting and super powers. The Shamisen player Nitaboh is in fact battling against a rival player who is threathening to discredit his Shamisen style. Only one performer will emerge triumphant. So there-you see this is in fact a FIGHT to a death(artistic death of course). and the Shamisen itself is a mysterious instrument which requires super powers to produce even one clear note. so there you have it!

In the actual movie, Nitaboh breaks his original shamisen from plying it two hard. He has to get a special thick-necked shamisen made for his style of playing. I've never even picked up a shamisen, so I wouldn't know from experience, I just thought I would explain the logic they used in the anime.

I must say... and I do so as a person completely lacking in actual knowledge of the instrument and the culture around it music wise... but... many of these I seek out and listen the musician will at one or more points let out a very ... guttural "HWAH!" kinda sound. I have wondered if that is word I don't know that's just that particular artist "owning" the song... if it's meant to be there but maybe a timing thing... etc. What I LOVE about it is that to me it seems the same as a Keyah!! that a martial artist might make at times to focus and or release power etc. I guess that's my point, I wonder if that is in fact what it is even in part... :) Also, after hearing this I want to cry AND fight evil :)

Charles Mills I think that is the idea, the guttural "Hah!" is letting out energy and giving more energy into the playing...releasing and focusing the energy as you put it. I don't claim to know for sure, but it does make a lot of sense.
@ThatWeirdDude408 жыл бұрын
+Charles Mills If you watch or ever watched anime like Dragon Ball, I'm sure you've met the term "Kiai shout", which is a release of Ki, spiritual energy, to enhance either an object or the own spiritual presence, and/or make others feel your spiritual presence. It also exists in a few martial arts styles, at least I know that it exists in karate.
