I bought a couple of these boards but unfortunately they're not available as a kit anymore (from what I've searched). I'm quite new to building electronics and have a couple of questions: A) Do I need to use a washer or spacer under 2N4427 transistor or can I just leave a gap between the component and the board? B) What type of 10K pot is used? I have 3386 but they're square and the one you used is rectangular. C) What is the difference between the 10u cap (below the SAA1057 chip) and the other ceramic caps? What type of cap is it? D) Do I need to use 1/2 watt resistors or can I use 1/4 watt? Many thanks 👊🏻

dear sir, can i buy a mrf101an pcb kit on you sir?
Greetings! I am aware that this video was posted quite long ago, but if by any chance you still have the schematic for this particular model RF Amplifier somewhere could you send it my way if i ask nicely? If not, i'd also greatly appreciate a similar model's schematic, i found this type of design quite neat, so if i could get a schematic of this sort i might be able to try to build it at home from custom parts because as far as i am aware this kit is no longer available. Thank you for your time, and have a nice day!
This looks almost identical to the 130W transmitter I purchased in the early 2000's. It worked great, we ran a pirate radio station for years with it. Thank you for posting this.

@@Aron102 Sadly I don't. I remember the internals very well though, and I always wondered how they worked. It was all analog components and had very little drift. I've always wanted to build an analog one that doesn't use a PLL IC. If you know any good books on RF electronics I'd love to have a look.

This design reminds me of Neil from Kensal Rise. Wondering if it is a copy of his work? Had something similar but more power probably about 25 years ago. Maybe longer.

I put mine in one of those long quality street tins with a 1/4 inch jack on one end and SO259 aerial socket at other and gave to my girlfriend as she was part of the south east London radio scene and had own studio. I think i drew out Roger's design and will be around here somewhere. I remember mine had a choke in collector of output transistor which one in your video doesn't appear to have, but apart from that looks the same. Certainly a 80's rig with the linear power supply and huge capacitor. That was the only way at the time. Happy days😁

Thinking about putting different mosfets in my little kl203p for 11m! Running into problems identifying the mosfits as a lot of the numbers are sanded off! What mosfits would you recommend I replace the factory ones with? I have some irfz24n's but they look the exact same as the factory ones with the numbers sanded off!🙈

@MrPsychodeejay Жыл бұрын
Hello Kisan! The Lock LED on this project was designed to be a basic tuning reference only! There is no need to keep an LED lit to indicate lock status as it consumes more current! Infact, the configuration gives a more "Real Time" experience that other Exciters do not! The LED is constantly monitoring any disturbances or corrections that the PLL is making to the frequency!

Very helpful tip/video. Just finished the same linear amp so I will try this before connecting the LDMOS. What realy puzzled me is the heatsink size. Is that size enough for a 100% duty cycle on 100watts?
@Aron1022 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. Heatsink size is perfect just use a fan. Never had any problems. When it’s working well the MRF101 stays nice and cool. 👍 you should see 120watts.

I know you didn't build it yourself, but do you have any idea what the purpose of the giant capacitor in the case is? Is it to smooth the rectified output from the transformer?

Unlike PLL, free running VCO drifts frequency from time to time, and it has spurious harmonics causes interference to other devices.

Yes this was an old transmitter from the 90’s was nice to see it up and running again, only happened due to the lockdown
@smokeandmirrors012 жыл бұрын
You cannot operate that 24hours continiously, heat sink is insufficient your final RF transistor will blow quickly.
@HowardKlein1958 Жыл бұрын
Experience proves otherwise. We always used a fan on PA even if not built in, it was arranged to blow air over heat sink on air. You got to understand these were throw away rigs and we didn't waste money on unnecessary parts. Often soldered in coax directly to output rather than waste a expensive plug and socket. Never used a mains plug either. Straight in lift room socket with a technique i wont repeat here.
