I first heard this haunting piece at a small stringed concert and then many years later a friend had a Kettelby record playing. I was amazed to hear it again and now had its name and composer. Another of Kettelby’s I love is “Bells Across the Meadows”.

Ketelbey died in 1959 after losing popularity. he was big in 1929.

I heard this in 1945 when I was a child and have loved it since. Memories of y Father, Uncle and numerous cousins lost in another senseless war. Try to listen to it being sung as the words are moving.

Vakhtang Kakhidze is a son of a well-known Georgian conductor, musician, singer and public figure Jansug Kakhidze. There is no one in this conductor world who can also sing and make the interpretations of any classic, jazz or any other melodies at the same time, I mean on the professional level. Jansug as a conductor was called 'the soviet Herbert von Karoyan' in Europe . Although some people think that this version is very fast, the Allegro vivo should play well. I personally find the perfect tempo for this work.
