I heard this in 1945 when I was a child and have loved it since. Memories of y Father, Uncle and numerous cousins lost in another senseless war. Try to listen to it being sung as the words are moving.

I first heard this haunting piece at a small stringed concert and then many years later a friend had a Kettelby record playing. I was amazed to hear it again and now had its name and composer. Another of Kettelby’s I love is “Bells Across the Meadows”.

Ketelbey died in 1959 after losing popularity. he was big in 1929.
