They should've taken a year or two after endgame to plan out their next phase so the visual effects wouldn't be rushed.

If both Disney, Warner Bros, Sony and Dreamworks are going to bring back 2D animation, they'll have to treat their animation staff with respect, give them fair payment for the movies they've worked so hard one and they should also learn how to market their films a lot better because right now, these movies are flopping at the box office. So their best bet for the revival of 2D animation movies is to launch them in the streaming services they own like Crunchy Roll, Disney Plus, Hulu, Peacock, Netflix, Max, Paramount Plus, Apple Plus and Amazon Prime.

I think Moana was supposed to be in 2D, but they changed it to 3D, same for Frozen

Henry's moustache was digitally edited out because they were doing reshoots during a time when he was doing a different movie where he was not allowed to shave his moustache. With that said, they could have completely replaced his face like was done in Gemeni Man with will Smith, and have a far better effect. Also, the iron man from the first movie was 100% CGI. They did make some practical pieces to begin with, but they ended up using it just as reference and replacing it all. Do you do research?

I agree but it isn't just the CGI that has become so bad its also the story and how its told like in doctor strange 2 wanda kills black bolt by taking his mouth and he blows his head from the inside even though black bolt got so good at controlling his scream ability that he could sleep without making a sound! so it makes no sense why he would scream many seconds after he had discovered he had no mouth, he would have calculated the situation and outcome. I mean for pity sake he's part of the bloody Illuminati.

I liked elemental, I liked the spiderverse. The Boy and the Heron was special to me, it felt as if Miyazaki was speaking to me saying, “Are you happy to be alive?” I was in that instance very happy to be alive. I love animation, and 3d has its place, I will always feel that 2d has an air of nostalgia, the stories take me back 20 years I’m in elementary school and shooting the breeze with friends about Kingdom Hearts.

It felt like the 2d animation was interesting then for a younger audience for example Ariel or Winnie the Pooh . But i wish there is more of 2d animation like spirit or Tarzan, Treasure planet etc.

This whole video just honestly sounds like shxt to cry about. Like you admit you ain’t even know in Spider-Man they went to Venice then you say it’s an ugly Venice because you think it’s CGI when it’s like no, it’s Venice that’s what it looks like. And also you have no idea how the industry works, just because they have money does not mean they can do whatever they want with it, they are a publicly traded company and have to make profit. EVERY STUDIO IS ABOUT MAKING MONEY IT IS THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY. THIS IS NOT JUST DISNEY. I also don’t know when everybody became CGI snobs like I never have been taken out of a movie because of CGI. I grew up in 90s where the CGI was awful. So modern movies still look great to me.

If Disney had brought back or made more 2D stuff it would be doing so well as would are society! So many young to even 40 year old artists would kill to get an animation job!!

After seeing Dune and Dune: Part 2, I’ve disregarded marvel as a game changer in any form of practical effects mixed with CGI to have any breathtaking result. They really started sucking after Age of Ultron. I think having a mix of practical effects and CGI really depends on the director and staff as well. Christopher Nolan and Denis Villeneuve to me are both directors that master the art of modern filmography. I love Marvel, but the latest projects have been gravely underwhelming and lackluster.

I’d hate to be an actor in the MCU, those sets look so fucking lifeless and boring. There’s absolutely no reason they can’t film a bar scene in a bar or a party scene in a house with hired extras. Computer generating literally everything is absurdly soulless.

I think you have misunderstood that quote from the Disney CEO - IMHO he said the exact opposite. He said we HAVE to focus on making money, THAT is our goal... and sometimes by accident it may occur that we also make a good movie while making money.

I am genuinely concerned about the amount of wrongdoing these statements actually do. I mean, Marvel's VFX have gotten worse, that's a fact. But making a video with negative statements when you are not actually an expert or even trained about the subject, blaming most of it on CGI is really problematic. The word CGI has been used a huge amount of times in this video and often wrongfully. I would really be interested in having a conversation with you about the research you did for this video. (An actual debate, not me trying to convince you of my opinion or some mansplaining) As I am actually a VFX artist writing a thesis on the NO CGI trend and its impact on VFX artists mental health. And I am sure we would agree on some topics as you have liked some comments above this video that mentions other problems. Don't get me wrong, what you say about marvel's vfx feeling fake is most of the time legit. I just feel like dedicating two thirds of your video to unnecessary CGI is really not helping when the actual problem is your second issue (and there is so much more than two). It really depicts CGI and VFX work as a bad thing. I just feel like when you expose content to millions of people that see your video, shares it and spreads negativity through your thoughts on the subject, these kinds of firm statements should be verified by experts. Please, people, inform yourselves before making statements on the internet.

I think the medium also colors the story, 3d animation is associated with a particular kind of film. I think 2d is the best option for period pieces, probably because it makes people feel as though the movie itself is antiquated.

To add to what you said about The Lion King. Disney didn't consider the film as The Prestige Project back when it was made. That was Pocahontas. So it would have been easier for Disney to accommodate its delay, because they didn't consider it the 'better' bet as it were. Hilariously though the opposite happened. It got more critical acclaim, more money and is on the National Film Registry

This might just be me showing my love for xmen, but the first xmen movie and days of future and past felt like it was shot there, even though it wasn't, The first xmen was great and i loved days of future and past because it felt actually real, But compare that to dark phoenix when it got over to marvel and its just very lifeless to me, I started with xmen 1, then i ended with xmen: dark phoenix and the difference was very suprising to me to say the least, I feel like when it was at sony they focused on the characters and story, they went into detail and it was good, but marvel was more about the quality and not the characters or the story, It was really all over the place, and i very much hope to see better quality story and characters rather then worse quality characters and story, and visuals.

I disagree with a lot in this video, but agree with the general points being made. Allow me to expand: - These days it's perfectly doable to make cg scenes that look perfectly real (see both dune movies, godzilla minus one, the creator and even district 9 (a 2009 movie with a 30 million usd budget) looks very real) - Practical effects are great, but as you said, they take a lot of time and effort and are not always feasible, but cg also takes time and effort and studios seem to forget that - The biggest problem with marvel isn't so much that they use cgi or even that they don't do stuff practically, it's their whole way of making a movie: - make it as bland as possible to put no-one off (-> nobody hates it, but nobody loves it either) - explain everything - no-one should be confused at any point (-> viewers feel as though they are treated as a child, because they are) - "we'll fix it in post, we don't need to make decisions now" (-> the problems here are obvious and too many to even begin here) - this one is a little more nuanced/difficult to explain but all their shots are almost too readable, there's no shadows occluding part of a face, nothing too bright or too dark etc. in an effort 'protect' the viewer from lights that are too bright or scenes that are too dark to see what's going on, they lose all their dynamism and every shot looks absolutely boring All of this leads to a few things: - There's a lot more cg scenes than necessary (you gave some great examples in the video) - There's a lot less time for the cg studios to do their thing and actually have good results - Even if they get the time/money, the constraints put on the look of the movies in an effort to please everyone means not only that it's not even possible to make a vfx shot that looks good and realistic, it also means that no-one is interested in the movies because they all look like the most bland version of whatever they are trying to make.
