Any fertilizers/food? Thanks
@lazygardens_Ай бұрын
You don't have to but you are can use a small amount for these. Their growing season is in the Spring and Summer, which is a great time to add a little fertilizer.

If the soil feels totally dry one day after watering it, should you water it?
@lazygardens_2 ай бұрын
If you've checked all around the soil and are finding it completely dry only a day after then it might be that the soil didn't absorb much of that water and it probably ran right through the pot. Give it a really good soak this time and make sure that you're doing several rounds of watering over the top or giving it time to soak in through bottom watering.

For smaller plants, I tend to use a very dull tweezing comb (an old one I used to use for my curls) to break the roots up as to not have to pull them to get the old soil off. You do this by gently stabbing and wiggling the comb in the roots, not trying to comb/brush it out since we don’t want to break the roots off. I have found this to be the most effective method for my stubborn plants to get the best care they deserve, in my opinion 🪴❤️

A tweezing comb is such a clever and creative way to do this! Love that 😊

You should wet the dirt or just simply rinse all the dirt off so you won’t be ripping all the roots apart by handling a dry block of dirt.

Succulents are pretty tough! Washing the soil off the roots can cause some stress for succulents and make them much more prone to rot, so we actually don't recommend this. If it is your preferred method than just make sure to give the plant a few days to dry out :)
It might feel a little strange 😅 but sometimes you just use whatever you have at home!

Thanks for the advice, great video! I’ve had a Mexican Fence Post for over a year, it’s approximately 1 foot high, wide circumference, and WAS all over green & healthy. As of this week, I’ve noticed about 3 of its spines are dark (purplish brown) and soft. Possibly suffering from overwatering - I allowed someone to care for it for a month. I don’t want it to die or to toss it, I’m hoping it can be saved. I’d really appreciate any recommendation, please & thank you! 🌵

You can try and stop watering it for a while and let the soil dry out and see if it recovers. If there is rot that gets pretty bad then you might want take a cutting of a healthy section of your cactus, let the end dry and callus for a few days, and then replant that in soil.

Whoa. I've never heard of them nor ever seen these cute guys. Tell me why the first thought upon seeing them was the Flintstones? lol. They've got this prehistoric look to them. Man, here I thought flowers were the most colorful plants but recently I've been discovering new succulents besides the typical cactus and aloe vera ones and all coming in different shapes and sizes that to me they're the most beautiful plants in the world. So much variety within that species of plant. Pretty cool.
