Beautiful! Is this imagined or are you working from a photo? It would be great if you could put a thumbnail of the photo in the corner of the video while you are drawing.

Thank you! I used someone else’s photo as a reference for this painting. I often work from a mix of photographs and my imagination, so in most cases, it’s not possible to include my reference materials in my publications.

Love your color choices!! Do you do a value study before you put down any paint/pastels?
@LenaRivo5 күн бұрын
Thank you :) No, I don’t. I always begin by putting in my darkest dark and my lightest lights and then, I compare all my other colors/values to them.

I like how your oil pastels colours are so soft and muted. My oil pastels the colours are so saturated and unnatural
@LenaRivo6 күн бұрын
Yeah, the only downside to painting with oil pastels is that we don’t have access to as wide a range of muted colors as soft pastel artists do. It took me a while to gather a good selection of gray tones from various sets, and I even had to create some by melting oil pastels. In my opinion, the best oil pastel set right now is the 120-color Mungyo Gallery Soft Oil Pastels set. It offers a great variety of grays and subtle, nuanced colors. Once I got it, painting became so much easier and a lot more fun!

I tried to pour a palette with Winsor and Newton gouache paints and after a week they dried and turned very crumbly and brittle. I know they'll re-active with some water + friction + grinding but.... is this how you guys work? Or do you use a specific brand of gouache that doesn't do this? I know most people say gouache is typically better fresh from the tube. But I hate how time consuming that is and prefer to work with palettes.
@LenaRivo8 күн бұрын
With gouache, it is best to use an airtight palette with deep wells. Gouache stays fresh forever in it. You only need to spray the paints with water once in a while. In you live in a very dry environment, you can add a medium that slows down the drying time of your gouache paints. You can learn more about the medium from this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rHion3t4Z6qkZ5Isi=LcaFDFK-0wmkwxbr

Amazing you captured the beauty of the human body with such ease! I notice you seem to have your gouache box open the whole time you're painting, and dipping your brush gently in each color as you use it, can you tell me if you simply leave the box open the entire session (how long was this session), and just spritz with water every now and then? (I know you said you add some slowdry medium in another video). Just wondering if you always just leave the box open during each session? Thanks in advance!

Thank you! Yes, I never close my gouache storage palette while painting. When I see the paints becoming matte, I spray them with water. That medium I mentioned in a different video really helps to keep my colors fresh and workable longer.

Thank you! Is there a reason you can’t download them from my website? My guides are free and available to everyone. The only times people couldn’t download them were when they were in countries with restricted internet access. In those cases, even the direct links I provided didn’t work because my website was blocked in their country.

Simply stunning as per usual! Do you have some tips for painting loose? To not get too caught up in the minute details but focus on the overall impression? Also, how do you know when to stop and not overwork a painting? Thanks for the continued inspiration!
@LenaRivo3 ай бұрын
Thank you :) I believe the key to painting more loosely is to start with the big shapes and work down to the smaller ones, ignoring details in the early stages. Only add the essential details and lines when the painting is almost finished. If you capture the correct color and value relationships of the larger shapes and soften the edges where needed, you won’t need to add many details, as the painting will already feel finished. I stop when I see that my painting conveys the essence of the scene.
