Good seeing ordinary people rather than that ideal-thing. Good rendering. Thanks.

Lena, one thing I struggle with using gouache or oil paint is mixing every little color I see. Like I see you do in your paintings. Take for instance her leg... you have at least half a dozen colors used to make up that leg. I would tend to paint the leg one color and try to layer other colors on top of that. Besides practice and intent, how might someone get better results like yours? Same with oil paints... many artists mix up a bunch of colors before starting a portrait painting... I just haven't figured that out yet... Thanks for your wonderful videos...

With gouache, it was helpful to use a wet palette this time because it kept my color mixes wet, so I could apply the same colors on different figures. But I do constantly adjust my colors as I paint, making the colors on my mixing palette warmer, cooler, lighter, darker, greener, bluer, more purple. I know that a wide variety of hues and temperatures adds a lot to the painting, so I am very patient when I paint. I pay a lot of attention to subtle transitions of color and try to capture those. I never premix colors, even when I work with oils. I try to make each of my paintings unique, without using “formulas”. Patience is my super-power :) I just do whatever it takes to achieve the best possible results.

Hi Lena , your work is amazing !! i love it, is it possible to Download or buy your PDF guides , i can not download it from your site ??
@LenaRivo2 ай бұрын
Thank you! Is there a reason you can’t download them from my website? My guides are free and available to everyone. The only times people couldn’t download them were when they were in countries with restricted internet access. In those cases, even the direct links I provided didn’t work because my website was blocked in their country.

Hi Lena, great video as always. May I ask you a question? How do you wash your brush after doing gouache painting? When I wash my brushes after gouache painting I sort of dab/press my brush(but not TOO hard) against the bottom of the jar repeatedly(like so: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ep2yY2tsf9BrjK8feature=shared cause the consistency we go for is usually much thicker than that of watercolors and it's harder to throughly clean out, especially near the ferrule - unlike watercolor; when I do watercolor I just need to lightly swish it in water without really touching the jar. Is this the right way? Would it harm the brush in the long term? How do you wash/take care of it?

Also: I've noticed you use Mungyo Oil pastels. Have you ever done a finished pieces(and/or sell a piece done with Mungyo) with them? I have them and I loved them, however I'm bit worried about their lightfastness.

This is how I do it too. I tap my brush against the bottom of the water jar a few times. This way, all the pigment washes out easily. I noticed that synthetic brushes wear out quickly, at least with my painting technique, so I replace them often.

@LenaRivo5 ай бұрын
Daler Rowney varnish is diluted by alcohol which means that the brushes you use with it should be cleaned with alcohol too :)
