any raw diet will be better for your dogs than even the best kibble. I've seen my blue nose Pittie eat a live turtle about the size of my hand. I would have stopped it if I had seen it sooner, but by the time I noticed she was crunching up the shell like a potato chip. Same night about a half hour later I see her going crazy about 4 feet behind my chair. A cottonmouth had gotten in my yard. She got lucky and bit the thing in half before it bit her. I have no doubt she would have eaten the thing If I let her.

I don’t have the answer as far as the raw diet as every book I’ve gotten on the subject has a different answer. But my last two dogs didn’t live half as long as they should have on very expensive kibble, so my new puppy is getting 1/2 Blue Diamond puppy canned food (Blue Diamond is the only pet food I’ve found that doesn’t have sugar and seed oils) and half raw meat plus any bones from my meals. This is my best solution for my chihuahua - I have no idea what I’d do with a big dog.

About 30 year ago when processed (kibble) was a relatively new thing here in the uk i put my GSD on to a brand new "Pedigree chum" kibble, at about day ten on this new food i went out to the kennel and he dragged himself out to meet me on his front legs only, back legs dragging, i thought maybe he had broken his back ? rushed to vets and he said he was very ill and that he might not recover ! but his legs were actually ok , he had a very bad stomach issue, he was put on antibiotics and pain meds, and kaolin , i thought maybe he had eaten something poisenous outside, eventually he went on to the dog meal again after he recovered after being on softer tinned meats and chicken etc, after a week back on the kibble he came out the kennel exactly the same again, thats when it clicked in my head, it was the kibble ! pedigree removed the bags very soon after and there was rumours in the dog world at the time that a few dogs had died from eating it, i remember it was a long while before they released another dry meal.....i never bought another pedigree product after that.

Perspective moment for people who clearly live in suburbia. I live in a relatively small city in the low desert. Getting "variety, variety, variety" as someone stated, is not an option. I know I cant be the only one. My "nearest" bulk buying option is Azure Standard (as of current information gathered), my next bulk option is sams club an hr and a half away. Gas is ridiculous! That is less money for food. There is 1 store that caters to hispanic culture and is my only option for SOME organs. Beef heart, chicken heart, liver, gizzard, beef tongue, beef tripe. I cant even pretend to be able to give ANY fish. It would be a small fortune for so little. Unless you count canned from the dollar store that reeks to high heaven and no one would feed that in their house. Every bone I get must be purchased as soup bone and again like everything else, does not come bulk. I am hitting up a new butcher in town in hopes of learning if i can get bulk & variety. Until the last year or so, we didnt even have a butcher. Only the ones at grocery stores. Beef, pork, chicken are my only meat options. I am hoping to raise meat for my dogs, but once again, the animal I am looking for, I so far have not been successful to find to get started. People just do not raise food animals in a city USUALLY. So it isnt cut and dry.

Im a Mom of a Boxer mix about 70 lbs, and a Dogue De Bordeaux. The boxer mix has horrible allergies, and I suspect some kind of gut issue with the DDB cuz he is just under 2 years old and has horrid breath most of the time, and he has had regurgitation issues. I am trying to get all the ducks in a row to get them on a raw diet. I live in a small city and do not have much bulk buying possibilities near by. In the mean time, they are getting a bit less kibble. And im adding some meat (raw or lightly cooked), any broth i can make, pureed fruit and veg, along with golden paste. Money is a huge obstacle. I am also going to treat both for leaky gut, the boxer mix for sure. I hope my DDB gets better with diet change and some herbs and supplements. Im glad I came across your channel. Every week i am getting more information to help my boys❤️

Thank you so much for your videos. I have been laughing so hard. My English Mastiff is 7 years old and she has been my family since she was 3 months old. Due to her size and the fact that she shredded the back seat of my sedan, I purchased an SUV where she has her own spot in the rear. She has been eating fresh cooked food her entire life. I cook chicken breast, green beans and carrots, sometimes adding a sliced apple and some beaf bone. On the medication side she needs heartworm pills and flea and tick medicine which is about $200 twice a year. 1 year ago she was having a tick bite which caused her red blood cell level below of what's considered "normal". Steroids and antibiotics aside from vet appointment left me with a $2500 bill. Bladder issues caused another $600 bill for vet, blood work and antibiotics. Anyway, she is my family and I treat her like that.

Feeding raw relieved my dogs chf ❤ he started showing symptoms - the coughing and slowing down. I really thought i was preparing ti lose him. Went ahead and got a diagnosis, and yes he does have chf. We switched to commercial raw nuggets for convenience and saw a change immediately. His fur started to fill in, it was so soft. His cataracts started to lessen (not cured but less) and his BREATH. O goodness his breath was so much better. We switched 3 years ago. HE IS STILL ALIVE AND IS TOTALLY A PUPPY AGAIN. He's 15! He hangs out with me all day in the car at work so i can keep an eye on him in his later years. But yeah 😊 hes still here. The vets are more easy going on the raw diets. His liver, heart and kidney values are normal. His cough is gone. He plays and is VERY interested in food again. My furever puppy ❤

What do you think about Maev?
@BigDogMom26 күн бұрын
I hadn't heard of that one until I saw your question. Based on what I can see on their website, it looks decent but would be expensive for large dogs I think. The ingredient profile is great, and would be a nice option for those who really don't want to put their own raw meals together. Of the two formulas I would definitely go with the beef! How big is your dog? To give you an example of how much just one of my Mastiffs eat about 3.6-4lbs a day (200+ lb dog). Keep that in mind as you price this out. If I had smaller dogs, I would definitely consider this!

My wife & I have 2 English mastiff 1 is 3 &.the other is 2. They have never really been big eaters, which has been a concern for us. Lately, they both have even started eating less. Can you please help me get my boys looking as healthy as your pups?
@BigDogMom26 күн бұрын
You are so sweet... both of my boys could stand to lose a few lbs. We are working on that. That said, a raw diet will definitely help! One thing you often notice beyond a healthier coat is better muscular development and tone. Similar to human diets, when we get enough protein our bodies respond by increasing our muscle mass (when combined with exercise of course). Protein is absolutely critical for so many of our body processes and it's often overlooked, unfortunately even for our dogs. My recommendation would be to consider moving to a whole raw or commercial raw diet (not raw kibble... that's not raw). Start there and see what happens. From there you can always tweak the diet and add supplements that can also help, but I would start with the diet. Check my feeding playlist for my other raw videos - several of them walk you through the process step-by-step. Let me know if I can help further! Best of luck!

would love to hear your thoughts on Barney dog beds - I like their towel cover and the variety of covers they have.
@BigDogMom26 күн бұрын
Thank you for the comment. Based on a quick look at the their website, these beds look nice. I don't believe they are made in the USA (usually not if they don't mention it), and their warranty isn't as long as others I've reviewed. That's not to say it's not a great bed. But just something to think about when spending hundreds of dollars for it. The prices for XL and XXL size are as high or higher than my top two picks from this review. I'm not sure the more plush cover warrants that added cost. Honestly, I would have to test this out to know for sure. I can tell a lot by how the cover is made just by the zipper and seams and how well it holds up in the laundry. In this review, you can see how very different all of the covers were and what a big difference that made overall. I will try to reach out to the company and see if they'd like me to test out their bed for the channel. Then we will know. ☺️

My dog is a Rhodesian ridgeback and a smaller pit mix, he’s about 30-40 pounds and is a rescue, I don’t want to feed him kibble because he’s a rescue and he’s my boy, he hides when I even pull out something that resembles a stick, even if it’s a beef stick that I’m giving him. He’s also a working dog now so I want to know what I need to give him to bring his energy back and make him comfortable so thank you for this video but if there is anything specific anyone could recommend I’d appreciate it
@BigDogMom26 күн бұрын
Great question! I do think a raw diet would do wonders for your sweet boy. You should be fine with feeding a diet that doesn't include any stick-like raw meaty bones. There are alternatives for all of that - different bones, crushed bone, or bone meal to give a few examples. That said, my guess is offering stick-like raw meaty bones on occasion would likely change how he feels about "sticks" generally over time. Now that he's with you and safe, you can start to work on some desensitization or counter-conditioning to help him see that sticks aren't bad and they are never going to hurt him. I hope this helps! Best of luck!

You sound very caring and sincere in what you are saying; however, there is a lot of guesswork and wishful thinking in your statements. I find your Anecdotal evidence alarming. The life expectancy of dogs has doubled in the past four decades. In part because vets, board-certified animal nutritionists, and scientists, in partnership with leading dog food manufacturers, invest millions of dollars a year to develop the optimal nutrition for our cats and dogs. Every year, science makes advances to prolong our pets' lives. Yes, I know that the big three help educate people in veterinary school about nutrition. I'm glad they do because they have spent millions on research and development and a vast knowledge database. One can be cynical about this and say they are brainwashing students and couldn't care less about the animals. Firstly, nothing could be further from the truth, and secondly, poisoning their customer's pets isn't a good business model. Honestly, would you prefer veterinary students to be taught about nutrition by you? Or those quacks who claim to be pet nutritionists who can get a certificate from a 40-hour online course? I would like you to contact Hills or Royal Canin and really understand the work they are doing. If you go into it with good faith, you will be pleasantly surprised.
@BigDogMom26 күн бұрын
Thank you for offering another side to this discussion. I greatly appreciate it! I mean that sincerely. I would definitely not want vet students to be taught by me. As I stated in this video, I am not an expert nor have I ever claimed to be. I would expect anyone watching this channel or getting advice from a "nutrition expert" or even their veterinarian to ask questions and do their own research. At the end of the day, I am responsible for my dogs. Not my vet. So it is my job to be informed to the extent that I can ask valid questions and make decisions for my dog. While I completely agree with your statement about poisoning pets being a poor business model, there is valid concern about the indirect benefit of keeping pets sub-optimally nourished. I would consider a dry kibble diet sub-optimal at best. But that is my opinion. It would be wonderful for someone (a neutral party) to do a long-term study comparing raw and kibble diets. My guess is that study will never be done, but I remain hopeful.

Can all dog breeds eat raw or only big dogs my dog is a medium size pit mix with something else not sure he was a rescue, could they eat a raw diet
@BigDogMom26 күн бұрын
Of course! There are no breed restrictions with a raw diet as long as you have an otherwise healthy dog. That said, you will want to tailor what you feed inside that raw diet to your dog. For example, for people with teeny tiny dogs, they may opt for something like bone meal versus whole raw bone. That's just one example.

@BigDogMom26 күн бұрын
I know many people who feel the same as you do. While I don't know any vets who drive Porsches, there is no doubt money invested in keeping dogs sub-optimally nourished. I personally don't believe that comes from veterinarians, but rather big pet food.

Kibble is shit for your dog. They did not evolve over 1000s of years eating kibble. Vets recommend kibble. Just like American doctors recommended oxycontin. Tell me I'm lying? Wake up. How about this? Vets recommend kibble. Why? Because that dog will become ill and guess What? That means money to your vet. I've got a 6 year old dog. Fed raw since day 1. Never been to vets. Surprise?
@leeperkes9437Ай бұрын
I'm gonna break it down to you real simple why raw is best. Put simply have you ever seen a wild dog that's fat? Or a wolve? No. That's because there not eating shite man made food that dogs and humans alike can not metabolically deal with. We have evolved on real natural food. That's why you only see fat humans and fat human pets. Don't feed your animals or yourself any shit that has been made in a factory. And watch your health improve.

I'm not sure why you would do that unless your dog has a health condition that you have to be careful about the fat. Most dogs can use more fat since they are eating a baked dry kibble. Either way, I've never removed the fat from the top of bone broth, even if I'm eating it. But if you want to it's super easy to just skim off the top and discard.
