Sorry to hear you got hit so hard. The kickstarter games all felt like they were in for a quick buck and weren't about growing organically. Can't make a game work that no one plays unless your Pokemon. Most of the products from the KS games are just ending up in basements or closets and players are never seeing it. Just stick to things you like and that will probably bring back that spark.

Magi Nation on GBC as a jrpg-tcg was a hidden gem game, sadly it didn't had the mainstream cover that Monster Rancher or Digimon had to compete Pokemon because two mistakes: 1.- Bring an animation after the first TCG was on the tightrope because Yu Gi Oh and a lot of anime TCG were competing in the market(2007-2010) and was on the tight rope. 2.-Cancel the GBA game to a generic PDA Game(Did you know which Pokeclone was better and my favorite? Robopon who ended in GBA with a sequel). If the reboot decide to sell full deck and not booster packs isn't a problem to see them as a simple card board game.

Use of AI is such a buzzkill for me in any TCG. Another game that I won’t name has a talented art team that I would LOVE to support but when I go to it’s website ALL of the artwork on the homepage is 100% AI art despite having cards drawn by real talented artists they could feature instead…come on.

A.I. can look amazing, and visually, along with some good gameplay, is all you need for casual play with friends. But once a company puts A.I. into its art, it loses something. It's connection with another person (the artist). And it's collectibility, becomes zero. Human beings are about being connected to one another. And that extends even to the art on a piece of cardboard. So, once you take the humanity out of the art, you're left with an empty shell, that may look great on the surface, but you can sense, you can feel something is missing. It's human connection. What some might call its soul. And that will instinctively, through human nature, turn you off. It's like robots they craft to look human. They may indeed look like us, but something is always off. It's mannerisms, its movements, the way it carries itself. Whether you call it a soul, or a conscience, or a heart, it may take the form of the most beautiful human on earth, but it's never, and could never, be whole. Always having a missing piece. It's humanity completely absent for the sake of something merely artificial. Human art, even bad art, still has what could be called a soul. And A.I. art, while beautiful, has no soul. A creation of superficial beauty that's only skin deep. So, whether a card game has that human connection, or not, through its art, will determine if anyone buys their product, and most importantly, collects it. For a card game that has no secondary market, is always doomed to fail.
@FranklyCollecting2 ай бұрын
Really well said. Agree with you. There’s absolutely no comparison between the AI art here and Mucha’s work. The AI stuff is just soulless in comparison.

@FranklyCollecting2 ай бұрын
I ended up backing just for the Sakura deck (pink deck) and Sakura uncut sheet because this deck did not have an AI entanglement like the other 3 do. What do you think of the use of AI in Kickstarter products?
@splatterkins2 ай бұрын
I have a lot of mixed feelings with AI. For conceptual purposes, someone who can't draw and wants an artist to try and capture what they envision or give the artist something to use as inspiration is one thing, but many games and businesses both professional and indie are going the route of AI. I believe some advertisement agencies are even using AI models that they "rent out" for upwards to $1000 for a ad. It's kinda strange to take the human out of the equation. Artists are perfectly imperfect, just as humans are supposed to be. We have little errors in our pieces which makes it all the more unique. The games that are sneakily using AI without disclosure or a more honest disclosure are the ones that bother me. If a game is upfront like "YEAH WE USE AI!!!" then okay, that's on the consumer to buy it or pass. If there's no clear statement or its like in the fine print, its shady IMO! I'm proud of you for sticking to your beliefs and canceling the pledge.
@FranklyCollecting2 ай бұрын
Thanks. I agree with you that transparency is the issue. It’s a real deflated feeling to get excited about a project and then see some vague disclosure about AI use tucked at the end of it. I think there should be strict regulation regarding AI use disclosure. Also, I feel like it would have been better to just hire artists to provide original work for the cats/dogs, fortress, and peacock decks they instead used AI for. I mean, those are pretty general themes that a lot of people would be happy to provide work for.
@williamNtcg2 ай бұрын
I try to stay neutral on ai art but I always come back to the questions of: “are the savings passed on to the consumer in anyway” & “why pay for something that I could make myself in theory”.

The whole thing is a slow burn sketchfest. It’s just some over obsessed fans that are helping clear out the old storage units some of the members of the old company had. Everyone gets their cut of the money that comes in from all these “recently unearthed cards” and the kickstarter never had actual plans. It’s long finished and past goal but they’re still trying to sell off their cards on the discord “because we can’t afford black core” or “we need another booster box unlocked… come on guys”. They got some cheap promos made up with no core and not even the actual back of card files and the cards look horrible. They promise “it’s will be better in a year when the new cards are made…. If we have more money… anyone need any cards?” It’s a joke honestly. And I love how they’re selling a map that the fan who made it admits in the discord “Disclaimer: It is an old map, and some of the locations labeled do not align with the fiction.” 😂😂😂😂 it’s like “thanks for the money chumps” some fans even created alil LLC that near mimics the name of the old company to try and make people who half remember the game that it’s official. They only got approval from “the old company” a couple rich guys who want their storage units cleared for them, to use the name and only of they get a cut of whatever is sold and don’t actually give enough of a dooks about this game to donate a dollar to the kickstarter themselves 😂

Nothing else in the TCG space like you mentioned is that exciting right now and a lot of hype has died down. I hope you find your vibe again with TCGs since I always enjoy watching your videos. The market will bounce back eventually and I'm sure we'll see a lot more of each other online then!

DaVinci is not hard to use. It looks that way at first but there are lots of good tutorials on YT and once you know some hotkeys for basic cutting and know where the basic transitions are found it’s a cinch. It’s also free if you don’t need features for making a Hollywood movie 👍

It was interesting to see so much interest around collectibles finance. I largely have just collected things I like and enjoyed making videos about them, but it has definitely appeared to be a pretty niche thing as much of the KZbin viewership left when the market update genre lost traction. Personally I love the black and gold, as well as the black white because it looks clean and modern as well as focuses on the artwork like you mentioned since most modern tcg collectors enjoy the artwork. I think the black and white works for the broad audience and collectors since that color combination can work with any other colors, speaking as a designer. But I can also understand the appeal of the blue color since it speaks to their branding and looks like something that came out of a library, similar to PSA's red coloring. They look like they're museum specimen's and should be handled as such in a sense. Depending on the young population joining the market, I can see CGC overtaking PSA submissions with they combine the new design, affordable pricing, and fast turnaround times. But PSA does have a lot of great design going for it as well, so we'll see 🤷

Hey Frank! Equinox actually gave an extra uncut rare sheet in there - so total 7 uncut sheets! I'm selling one of my uncut sheets to my LGS that's supporting Altered and keeping the other 6. Still deciding what to do with the other uncut sheets and signed art prints. May sell them as a bundle later on, frame a few of the uncut sheets for my collection, or just sell each sheet separately if they do become more in demand after official release. I don't think the boxes will explode in value like Sorcery did with the Rudy pump but I don't think the boxes will lose value either. I'll be selling some of my KS boosters to recoup some money back but not in a hurry to sell them since Altered did say they are going to ramp up their marketing (English and French) closer to official release. They've said marketing now before products aren't even readily available now would not bring in much hype - I agree with their plan. Here's hoping 🤞
