Possibly the best pop song ever written. I really mean that.

Everytime I hear this song I think I'm in 1987 in Mervyn's choosing Nike, Adidas, British Nights ,LA gear or LA lights to get for school. Then going to kb toys and see what new nintendo or sega games they had. Maybe just maybe go to round table pizza after all was done.

I never thought of AFOSG as a guitar band, but here we are. Paul was a HUGE part of their sound.

Paul Reynolds: the voice doesn't match the face. It sounds like it is being dubbed by another man.

Paul Reynolds - massively underrated.

As far as "great" goes, his talent can be debated. However, just like other players that don't shred (Keith Richards?) he is able to create memorable hooks with simple playing. So yes, he DOES stand out.
@AJ17_21 күн бұрын
Well, here's the thing. Paul started playing guitar when he was 10. He was just 17 when he joined AFOS and was playing like he had years more experience than he actually had. To be his age at the time and to be able to play like he did is kinda remarkable. He had a very unique style and tone, which is another thing that made him stand out and helped get AFOS noticed among the myriad of other synth bands at the time.

Paul Reynolds is a badass. Wish he didn't have a nervous breakdown or this band would have been so much bigger.
@AJ17_21 күн бұрын
There was a lot going on with him. He was under a ton of stress from constantly touring & the pressure of fame, but he also had to deal with Mike's massive ego & relentless bullying (Mike bullied the hell out of everyone in that band). The stress was making him physically sick, plus he started having panic attacks & would break down crying from exhaustion after shows and all he got in response was basically "grow up". The others knew he was struggling but offered zero support. Paul also felt he was being held back musically. He was writing guitar parts that weren't being used, and he didn't like how Mike was trying to take over the sound of the band with his keyboards (they got noticed because they were a guitar-driven synth band, which was unique). The root of it all goes back to Mike.... if he wasn't such a greedy egomaniac and control freak, and had treated his bandmates with respect, the band might not have imploded the way it did.
@mattgilbert585021 күн бұрын
@AJ17_ agreed. Plus Paul was only 14 when he joined the band. No doubt Mike was an ego maniac that thought he owned the band and the guys he played with. He's a good singer, but who wants to be bullied and ridiculed the way they were? Nobody. Paul had every right to leave and protect his own mental health. Mike to his credit has formed the current version with younger band mates and they sound really good. I just hope he doesn't treat them like he did his brother and Paul and the bass player whom I forgotten the name of.

I think I learned this song (guitar) in about 58 seconds. It's not the playing, it's the composition of the song as a whole.
