Love that Liverpool accent. Paul Reynolds is one of the most underrated guitarists and in my opinion (probably many, many others also) never got the props he deserved. His playing is original, creative, distinctive and is the sound of F.O.S., more than the synths. When you hear that guitar sound/tone, you immediately know who it is.

Amen, and the thing is, he was 14 or 15 at the time when he joined that band. I’m a guitar player also and the Van Halen coolaid was definitely going around. @@roamlikekane Paul was 17 when he joined the band in early 1980 (he turned 18 that summer... he was born August 4, 1962). He looked so much younger, so his age was mis-reported a lot. @@triplesstarz6822 No they aren't touring and no one from the original lineup is "back in the band". Yes, all 4 collaborated on _'Ascension'_ but that was it. After that, Mike just blew the album off and kept touring with his band of hired scabs. Not even a short tour with the original lineup to promote the album. Bet the majority of Seagulls fans 'round the world don't even know they collaborated together to make this new album, much less do they know this new album of re-worked hits even exists. Shame cause if Mike had promoted it *_properly_* (not just talking vaguely about it on some morning television show for 30 seconds), it might have propelled the Seagulls back up on the charts and an original lineup tour *_MIGHT_* have happened. Not to mention, the massive amount of money a tour with the original lineup could have served to maybe get a new album of original material with all 4voriginal members.... but no. Nothing. Just another missed opportunity and a massive lack of foresight by Mike who even before _'Ascension'_ was even released, was already crushing the thought of an original lineup tour on interviews...

I saw bands reunited and I have to agree with Paul, FOS🎉 could have been the biggest band in the world. Like another Liverpool band well known, their youngest was stressed from heavy touring! John Lennon was considerate to have the band 'go home' to England, just focus on creating more great songs.Mike Score and the other members did not seem to have the foresight and confidence/sophistication to understand success is due to each member of the band. Make no mistake Paul had the star power/talent that made FOS. Yes Mike wrote the songs but did he realize how important esp. Paul was? Mike was afraid it would all go away if no touring, then he created that reality and ruined what might have been. Mike out there trying to profit still of a band no more or use FOS name is not right and fair to the other members. very much alive.

There's conflicting stories. Paul has said he quit. Mike said he kicked Paul out. And Frank has said it was both. To me, it sounds like Mike was thinking about kicking Paul out because his drinking (and alleged drug use) was starting to affect his role in the band, but Paul had finally had enough (he was was physically and mentally exhausted from the constant touring), and left before he was asked to. Paul said on Bands Reunited that leaving the Seagulls was probably one of the best things that ever happened to him, because if he had carried on like that, he probably wouldn't be here now (he knew he was slowly killing himself with the heavy drinking and the like).
@janebraun44822 жыл бұрын
@@AJ17_ Sounds like it was both, that Mike would have booted him out or was doing so anyway by over touring. Mike made this band rather homeless; they came to the USA and just never 'went home', never stopped. Paul's guitar?? you realize yeah, Mike's ego was the real 'toll' or a good part of it. Otherwise never did they get back together...?

@@janebraun4482There were a lot of factors at play. Mike’s ego and his bullying was one. He put his bandmates through mental hell. Frank said he had to see a psychiatrist after the band broke up & that Mike had to go to counseling for anger management. Mike’s control freak ways plus the pressure of fame & constantly touring caused Paul to turn to heavy drinking to try to cope with it all. It’s sad because Mike will throw everyone else under the bus (especially Paul), but takes no responsibility himself for what happened. But you talk to the other three, they all say the same thing, that Mike was the main “villain”. And I’ll believe Ali, Frank & Paul over Mike any day.

Paul's look does not match his voice. You expect a high pitch kids voice and you get a very very deep voice.

I wonder if that was one reason why he never talked a lot in interviews back then? I know he was the "shy, quiet one", but maybe he was self-conscious about his deep voice? Who knows? Funny thing is, listening to the music now, I can easily pick up that deep voice of his in the backing vocals.

I’ve only discovered this band event though I grew up in the 80s watching MTV in the NL. Maybe I was still to young or i just always skipped past them.
@switxelswit57105 жыл бұрын
they asked Paul what's the meaning of the more you live the more you love, Paul said, Mike writes the lyrics, If i get it wrong, i don't want him to get mad in that type of thing. That's why Paul left. It just shows what Mike is really about. Mike is so pathetic and self-centered and arrogant. just saying.
@thesuburbanredneck44535 жыл бұрын
When he said that my heart broke. Mike even in "Bands Reunited" was just rude about everything, didn't seem to care about Paul or anyone for that matter. He was way too young for such a break down

Well that song really was personal for Mike, as it was about a childhood friend of his who committed suicide when they were in high school. So I can understand why Paul said what he did, because he didn't want to say the wrong thing.

How did I know that the seemingly frail and wimpy guitarist in the video, Paul Reynolds, would have a deep manly voice.
@AJ17_ Жыл бұрын
Face did not match the voice (he was I believe 22 here... not long before he left the band actually). And frail? Wimpy? Hardly. Reno had a special kind of aura around him back in the day when he played. To me he was a total badass.

Like most rock bands they all have their issues. With the Flock, Frank was the manic one, upbeat ready to rock the world, Paul was the depressant anxiety one who was terrified to come on stage and he was only 15 I think when he started poor kid, then theirs Mike and Ali, two brothers who couldn't get along and if it wasn't for that, they still be playing right now since Frank wanted to reunite when they did the VH-1 reunion special but Mike said no...so, so sad. And just one last thing, dose Ali remind anyone else of that actor Peter Stormare? He was the bad guy in most movies like Fargo, Constantine, the Eye Doctor in Minority Report? To me he dose. Lol

@@janebraun4482 Paul was (barely) 22 when he left the band (his final show was September 27, 1984 at the Beacon Theater in NY - that date has been confirmed by Paul himself - and he turned 22 on August 4th of that year). And I've heard conflicting stories about how Paul came into the band. One was he saw an ad the other guys placed in the local paper looking for a guitarist. The other, Frank said he spotted Paul waiting at a bus stop, thought he looked like a musician, went over to talk to him and ended up inviting him to come audition. But Paul was 17 when he joined the band in early 1980 (and turned 18 that summer).
