I dint get what u were doing or how with the boat?

Do you have tricks for when you're painting a flat sky around, say, a building? Is it just a matter of keeping it moving? I find that I often end up working the paint vertically a bit to follow the edges of the thing that is meant to be left white and the result isn't a truly flat wash.
