I never liked two handed backhands. so ive ALWAYS used one handed... even in Tennis and became good enough to do some damage

I am watching this a year after this has been posted. Hello from the future! Also If you have a longer handle don't you lose some space on the face of the paddle? There's a maximum length paddles can be right?

Thats not even new. Table Tennis players can do exactly that kind of backhand if they play Pickleball.

Oh my, I so needed this today. I was getting ready to hang up my paddle for good! All I want to do is be competitive, I don’t need to be the best one on the court. I do believe I am my own worst enemy. Thanks for this spot-on video!

I may have missed this in your video… So does this mean I can be in the kitchen anticipating a shot bouncing in, wait for it to bounce and then hit it back all while being in the kitchen the entire time???

I guess folks didn’t come here to learn about racquetball, but here goes anyway.😊 As former raquetballers know, a lot of the power in rball comes from wrist snap and instructors would tell you to start with the elbow high and the paddle straight up. It will definitely add some pace to the ball but is harder to control - also you can add a lot of spin this way if you like. Great video!

12:51 love the fundamentals, I'm coming from tennis, I wanted to learn the two handed backhand in my beginning journey in tennis but I learned the one handed backhand and is so fluid and natural, watching Pete Sampras and Roger Federer IMO has the best one handed backhand in the tennis realm

Thanks for doing this video. People can be unkind but we have a choice to work at it and increase our skills or get demoralized and quit. Iron sharpens iron and playing up will help your game. I don't get to play much but I'm trying to learn what I can on youtube and then go to the court and put some of the instruction into practice. I don't believe anyone is gifted with skills right off the bat but rather it takes time and effort to increase your skill level.

When you use a single handed backhand stroke, do you adjust your grip at all?
@PickleballKitchen

Yes, if you're right-handed rotate the grip a bit left of neutral. But definitely try just neutral at first.

You were my favorite youtube pickleball coach when I first started playing. You helped me with fundamentals. I subscribed to about 15 other pickleball channels but I always comeback to watching your videos. These days I'm about a 4.25ish player. I have good days and some crappy days. So I appreciate a video like this that talks about the mental part of the game.

Grateful I started with a small group of players who were all new at the same time. Invite friends who are new to the game and come up the ranks together. On Saturday morning we get beat up by better players intentionally just to ensure we’re getting better. No hard feelings neither of us get upset if we lose

Pb is such a frustrating sport. For most people, you are matched up with random players on the court who can greatly impact your play. It's easy to lose the rational part of the brain. For example, yesterday, one of my pb opponents was a strong man skilled in ping pong. He smashed down every ball that came his way. The rare time that I could return one of his smashes, I did a pop-up, and then he smashed the ball at my partner, who then yelled at me. *Not* fun! The most enjoyable pb, IMO, is with similar skill sets and temperaments. Thanks for all your videos! 🌟
@PickleballKitchen
@PickleballKitchen 16 күн бұрын
I understand all of that and I've been in those same situations. I agree that some of the best PB you can play is when things are on a level playing field. It's amazing. Let me know if you want to come down here for some training, Ann! Would love to help you out.

Good players will take advantage of your mistakes. Both you and I need to work on dinking and drop shots. Hitting the ball high over the net with moderate pace when your opponent is at the kitchen will doom you to a loss. Soften your grip, push the ball over the net into the kitchen instead serving up of a set-up shot. This will keep you in the game longer and maybe the other player will make a mistake.

Thanks. Solid advice for so much more than just pickleball. A really great reminder that getting stuck in your head can be dangerous in general, and we may need to rely on other people to pull us out of the spiral. And remember, winning doesn’t make you a better person, and losing doesn’t make you a worse one.

Great job.... I stink, okay... compared to ultrapros like you, I stink.... I've actually gotten a lotta lotta value out of one of your old videos where you talked about "find your tribe"..... And to be fair, I stink, and I have no aspirations.... I am just playing for fun, probably like a lot of your viewers.... so the people I was playing with at the time, were these ultra competitive.... Uhhh, I had to delete that, you have a family channel here.... so let me gently say, they were way too competitive for me, and they enjoyed humiliating noobs & bad players waaaay too much for my tastes.... they were not my tribe.... Now, sadly, you didn't say, "Here's how to find your tribe"... which would have helped.... Sorry, my point is, I started my own group on an app, and I figured, hey, whatever, let's see who shows up.... Well, now it's a great group, and a fun group, and we are all improving.... And we're having a ton of fun, and it's great..... So yeah, find your tribe, one way or another.... If you're not playing 4 times a week, it's probably because you're playing with a-h&les who are not fun.... Now, coming from the golf world, I spend a lot of time trying to never feel the thumb & index finger... I want the last 3 fingers, and that's it.... Unless, UNLESS I'm trying to hit a super short little flip shot near the net... then I let the whole hand go, and just try to flip the paddle..... I might even sometimes let go of the paddle, and let it fly forward in my hand a little, so that little flip shot might have a little more leverage.... but I would never advise that. that shot works like 40% of the time, and is only advisable in pure desperation.... I could go on & on... Great job on the video....

Played lots of racket sports in my life, and pickleball for the first time today. It was natural for me to step into the serve with my left foot. Checking vids this evening, only this guy does that as well (everyone else show no step, or follow thru w/ the opposite foot). Glad to know I don't have to change anything.
