I just got my schnauzer, 4 1/2 yrs old neutered 2 years ago. His coat has a lot of beige color with cotton texture. I used a tool and to pull out some of the dead hair and his back does look cleaner. I am not seeing the wire hair there, tho. Only a few black strands here and there. Is there anything I should know before proceeding? Have you encountered this type coat? Please and thanks in advance.

Does the glue just wear off eventually?

I've watched a hundred grooming videos yet this one shows beautifully what the schnauzer coat is all about. My purebred black amd silver schnauzer puppy doesnt have wire hair. She has been shaved 4 times until 4 month old but i dont think thats the reason she is soft. Because i also carded and pulled hair with a stripping knife yet the hair grows very long if i dont shave. Like that of a bichon.

You could not change genetic with clipping. If you clipping wiry coat it won’t change only will be not alive and not so springy but with time anyway sheds and change…

We bring home pup when she's about 13 weeks. Her ears are up. How often do we need to do this? How long do you keep them glued for at a time? Frequency? Thanks

The ears are natural? Normally need to be glued during teething.

Question when you say wiry coat, are you referring to the hard coat? I'm planning on getting a Giant this year and I've heard about hard, medium and soft coat. I'm thinking about trying to get one with hard or medium since according to what I've read is easier to maintain although the soft coat looks beautiful.

Wiry coat it’s very specific type of structure of hair. Soft or medium is not description for structure. And is untypical for this breed. There are dogs with such coat but it is considered as fault for this breed. Also not functional as required a lot of unnecessary work and not protect dog as should be.

Very helpful video for a beginner, thank you. My puppy is 4 months old now, so would you mind advising approximately when I should start introducing hand stripping?

Thanks for sharing this. As a future mini schnauzer owner, it’s very helpful. I also hope all descent breeders please go through relative genetic screening to prevent genetic defected parents from producing more puppies who will suffer from this phenotype.. Respect and care for each life one decided to bring to this world.🙏

As stripping knife used : macknyfe red, in 2nd part of video used only hands and glove 🧤. Deshedding tool for racking undercoat is from Show Tech. Clipper: Aesculap : blades: 0,2 and 3 mm. Scissors 8’ and thinning shears.

Show the carding technique, which is important to get all the undercoat out. Then strip.
@schnauzersworld
@schnauzersworld 3 жыл бұрын
In this type of coat, carding technique not important as the undercoat is very short and dense, it's not necessary to take out all undercoat only dead ...which is easily to remove with deshedding tool which using in video. First I'm stripping the long dead layer of the top coat and only after remove the dead undercoat, but actually could be vice versa.
