this is a nice panel getting to the heart of the issue... but.... feels a bit "hopeless" .... neo liberalism dosent take our culture seriously, its treated as a hobby, a luxury that must break even at least and at best culture is treated as an opportunity for exploitation and commodification. why do we try and "prove" a need for art and culture, this has been done a million times before. we already know the value of culture we dont need more data..... our struggle is with the corporate system, a system that only recognises profit and growth.... taylor swift and oasis are examples of commodities who soak up money and resources, this live touring and streaming "market" makes a fortune - corporates have sown it all up and continue to grow.... meanwhile, small venues and independent artists are crushed and are shrinking.... grass roots is ignored and squeezed so that corporate monsters can continue to increase profits. the solution for "the broken grass roots music market" is a political one. yes, there is a massive crisis in grass roots music.... but its not just in grass roots music ... the crisis is in culture.. art... theatre... museums... libraries... football... schools.. housing... cost of living... health... transport.... you name it there is a crisis..... the crisis is caused by capitalism. we are fighting a losing battle.... we must organise, organise, organise and campaign, take action and demand that our government takes a bigger share from corporate greed - we must demand that our government defends and creates the spaces for our culture to develop... society is for EVERYONE. another world is possible.

That's great and all but what the fuck is up with the black lives in music thing? Black people are vastly represented in music. It's one of the things they are. I think a lot of this identity pandering is sometimes what puts people off

This needs to be shared as much as possible. I'm putting this onto The Noisy Brain Community app and socials now. Thank you all @musicvenuetrust and Mark Davyd for your ongoing fight and passion, thanks for all the work you are all doing at MVT PS; I really disliked the laughing at the end. Music venues should be treated as vital national infrastructure, they're the foundation of a key UK industry, they're pivotal in the cultural, mental and creative health of the country. Not to mention the soft power and voice it brings the UK in the global community. To allow them to dissapear is a clear sign of a country that is frankly not taking itself seriously. We don't allow bridges and road infrastructure to collapse because they are not in and of themselves profit making, there's no reason we shouldn't think of music venues (and for that matter, theatres, sports venues etc) in a similar, if not identical way.

Forever in awe of how much Frank appreciates where he came from. I haven't heard of a single other artist who did weekly free livestreams just to raise money to support the places that led to his success. What a stand up guy.

The reason why we've been put back is simply because Johnson didn't want India to be on red list even though it was experiencing higher rates of the virus spreading than neighbouring Bangladesh and Pakistan that were on the red list. He was more bothered about his world beating terrible post Brexit trade agreement than saving lives.

This is such a good thing for our communities, tourism, musicians and the multitude of local people employed in these venues all across our country. How cool it is for a locality to have a great grassroots music venue. That's real culture at work. Getting teenagers out of their bedrooms to strum their tunes infant of a LIVE audience for the very first time. We must protect these venues. Great video. I love the quote about pollination with the bees!

All I have seen today on Facebook and Twitter are talentless DJs and local artists complaining about lack of government handouts. I can think of a million things I would rather see the money go to at this tough time. The arrogance of these people thinking they offer anything substantial or significant to our lives. They're more concerned with themselves and their bank balance than the public safety what makes them think they offer anything to people's lives other than light relief. They're the thing we can most live without. #themusicwillbetherenomatterwhat #getarealjob #notalent=nohandout

I'm sorry you feel that is the message that you have seen today - that venues are asking to remain shut rather than being forced to reopen in an unsafe time would go against your point that they don't care about public safety. The venue owners portrayed here are not making a lot of money and not even asking for a lot of money. if these venues close then there will be losses of jobs, and there will a lose of community and cultural spaces that help keep kids off streets and give work to millions. there have also been calls from over 1500 artists ranging from Cher and Sheeran to Dua Lipa to The Spice Girls recognising the importance of these spaces to the careers and creativity of so many people. the industry also creates jobs and revenue which supports HMRC and important public spending - yes there are more important things but that doenst mean that these things are not important.

I feel sorry that music has not played a major role in your life as it has for most people Richard. Grassroots music venues have been developing that talent for decades, it doesn't come from nowhere. Musicians and grassroots venues are always at the front of the queue giving their time for free when someone else is in crisis, it's a shame you begrudge a little payback when they themselves are in that position.
@richardsalazar4007
@richardsalazar4007 4 жыл бұрын
@@TheZoob You've completely misinterpreted what I wrote. I love music. But we are in a global pandemic and venues need to close. If you actually read my statement it focuses on amateur musicians and DJ's who complain about no income. These people have a "talent" but it's not a career it's a hobby which just happens to pay. If they don't work during the day and rely on money from their hobby to pay their mortgage, then fool them. They are foolish and should get a real job and use the music as a side hustle. If these people think that they deserve handouts from the public purse they are selfish and need to get in the real world. There are plenty of musicians who are amateurs who will happily fill their place if they decide to quit, it's not as big a problem as people are making out.
