I've just had my rear calipers reconditioned. Am I right in thinking that if I wind the piston in at all I then need to unwind it by a 1/4 - 1/2 turn in order to get the handbrake adjuster mechanism to operate correctly. It looked like the instruction sheet with your calipers had something written on it about this.
@Integralingham3 ай бұрын
You can wind the piston in to easily fit the unit and pads onto the disc, it will auto adjust to what it needs when in use. But the groove, or one of the grooves, on the piston face must locate over the knob on the back of the pad which it pushes. That's probably the 1/4 turn required. The inner screw adjuster can only operate if the piston doesn't turn also. Phew!

Is there a pointer or similar on the tensioner bearing or do you just feel it without having the setting tool ?
@Integralingham3 ай бұрын
Hi Joey, thanks for your question, it's a long answer I'm afraid. Your spark plugs are out and the bottom pulley is tightened up etc, tighten the belt good and hard, turn the engine clockwise twice, back to the marks. Then slacken the tensioner until you can twist the belt between the cam wheels 70 degrees from flat, then tighten the tensioner bolt. Turn over twice again and check tension to the 70 degrees again. Balancer belt doesn't really need to be as tight. When you fit the cam belt with the tensioner slackened right off, as you tighten the belt it'll probably turn the engine until it's a tooth out, be careful, set the belt 1 tooth out on the bottom pulley if that happens. There is a proper flywheel locking tool, I don't have one. The new belts will sing a bit with the new teeth, they will settle down after a while.

There are so many 'specialists', you have to go on your own experience, as you have. I think new belts sing for a while, I might tighten mine up again. Thanks for your message. H.

Nice vídeo, there are not so many vídeos which explain, and debate, the process of removing and inserting the screens. The lubrication makes a lot of difference! I use glicerin, it hydrates the rubber, is armless and lubricates. I do not use wd40 because it breaks down the rubber. Ok this is a one time aplication so it should not hurt
