This is very similar to the way Rampage Jackson used to block punches back in pride and ufc. I always thought he had a unique way of defending strikes. Compared to all the others mma fighters.

You will be surprised 'which coaches bought my original DVD instructionals and then passed it off as their own 'approach' with their fighters. I purposively left out some details on those DVDs, so I could see when someone used it, which DVD they took it from :)

@coachrodneykingАй бұрын
:) Maybe some little forgotten facts. I went to Thailand for the first time when I was 20. That was over 3 decades ago. For the next decade I trained under the head coach of Fairtex Apidej Sit Hirun. In fact, I was one of the very few people ever given permission by Apidej to teach Muay Thai under his name. I was sponsored by Fairtex for several years, and the first South African to bring Muay Thai to it's shores. I taught Muay Thai for several years starting at my first gym at the YMCA in Braamfontien Johannesburg in the mid 90's. One of my longest students, and trainers has been Adam Kayoom, outside of his exceptional record in MMA, he was also a 3 x World Mauy Thai Champ. His mentioned previously how 'CMD saved him'. Anyway, I am sure if you run into him in Bangkok he would be happy to retell stories of our sparring escapades :)

Dr Rodney, if someone does a push up it is rare for them to use the top 2 knuckles as that's unstable. They normally do a vertical fist and use the bottom 3 knuckles. When doing a vertical fist is it unrealistic to hit with the top 2 knuckles because the index knuckle? As it doesn't land flush unless you bend the wrist which can cause problems. Any thoughts?
@coachrodneykingАй бұрын
Not that I am a fan, but if you watch even the rise of BKB you don't see anyone doing vertical fists. Look, at the end of the day, anytime you strike anyone, regardless of how you place your fist or even open hand there is a chance of injury. However, speak to any ER doctor who has to treat people who have gotten into 'fists fights' (South Africa being a great example) they will always tell you, the two fingers that generally are the ones that become seriously injured or broken or the pink and ring finger. Bottom line, you want to hit with you top 3 knuckles, as they are the strongest, and then, it comes down to how well you have trained your alignment. I would stay away from vertical fists, mostly because it drives with the weakest fingers on the hand and there's no real way around that!

Hey Coach I have been watching your videos and exploring the crazy monkey defence system and it seems to be well thought. I had one question, What do you think of Urban Combatives and Senshido Richard dimitri? Do you think these instructors are worth the following? Because you are against many Self Protection instructors because they teach stuff that doesn't work and stolen your stuff as well which is deplorable.
@coachrodneyking2 ай бұрын
Hey! I had a similar question on here. Here's my response: @coachrodneyking • 2 days ago I don't comment on specific individuals, but here's my philosophy on practical self-protection: if a system doesn’t include sparring, it’s hard to know if what you're learning will truly hold up under pressure. Real self-preservation training also has to account for legal consequences. For example, preemptive striking, which is taught widely, can lead to serious trouble if used in the wrong context. Effective self-preservation training should empower you with control, awareness, and the skills to respond appropriately in real situations. What most people need isn't 'self-defence' lessons; they need lessons in behaviour management. Knowing how to keep calm, present and focused in tough situations is far more important to dealing with interpersonal conflict than physical technique. In hindsight all the years I have been doing this, and in all the encounters I dealt with in my early adult life, almost all could have been resolved by simply walking away. Again, much of what is being taught under the guise of 'reality based self defense' is in fact 'ego defense' and has very little to do with 'self' defense.

Coach What do you think of Lee Morrison and Richard Dimitri? I have explored many Combat Sports, Martial Arts and Self Protection Instructors over the years and many of them teach stuff that either won't work under duress or Is a complete waste of time. I have come across only a handful of Instructors who teach real stuff and you are one of them. But I connect with these 2 ideals more than anyone else. Wanted to know your opinions since you are also against a lot of Instructors due them teaching stuff that is not real and also stealing your content which is deplorable. So yeah wanted to hear your perspective

Another thing I would consider adding to your punch defense is the clinch as taught in Brazilian Jiujitsu. The clinch can reduce the striking power of an aggressive puncher.

I appreciate the comment. I am guessing based on what you wrote you are not familiar with Crazy Monkey Defense as a 'system'. We have always taught clinch. We have our own unique approach called Straight Jacket Clinch. As a side note, I am a black belt in BJJ (in which we also have a Monkey-Jits program), beginning my practice in the early 90s.

So funny that underarm covers called "frame" were there for me in Combatives so many years, but on this side or that side only, than watching Coach Rodney the first time combining the two side the CM way was such an "lightbulb" moment. I never stopped using this since that. I even teach it to folks after they experience they cannot hit me, always giving credit to Coach and referring to this video and CMD sites (sorrily there is no CMD in my country). Than you Coach!

@coachrodneyking5 ай бұрын
Yes. However, I am very careful on what I post on KZbin. I think there are to many 'Reality Based Self-Defense' instructors who are far to careless with what they put out - not realising that the bad guys are watching too. If you want to ask me a question directly I strongly suggest you join my Virtual Academy. Awesome stuff! Finding your content again after so many years is a blessing. Planning on subscribing to school of crazy monkey soon. 🙏🏻 a request: any chance of you giving your take in a video on fighting/defending against multiple aggressors without the regular "just run" advice everybody else keeps throwing around? I'm 220 lbs with two bum knees. I can kick, hard, but running as self preservation will just make me have to fight them anyway, exhausted, if/when they catch up to me. Lots of videos out there just saying it is impossible to fight several (likely untrained) people, and I really can't wrap my head around how they would bet their money in the favor of a group of 3-4 random/average individuals against, let's say, a Chuck Liddell style fighter. Of course, things change when weapons get involved, or other parameters change though. From what I gather, parts of South Africa is among the more violence prone countries out there in the civilized world, so I would love to hear your thoughts on this with your experience both in martial arts and the life you have lived. Big fan, as I stated in a previous comment, I used what i could learn from your videos on CM as an amateur mma fighter with success 16 years ago , and would love to train and learn the system from the ground up. Too bad im swedish, so no chance here, but ill for sure give your subscription service a go!

It seems like there is a strong correlation between feminism and a collective desire to return to our natural state of connectedness. That makes tons of sense to me, because the more safe and less defensive a woman feels, the more safe and less defensive her children will become. Now we have younger generations, in particular, who are not nearly as defensive as their older counterparts, thrust into a world that has been built upon patriarchy, hierarchy and capitalism. So of course, they’re not doing well, and many are deciding not to have children at all. That’s the catch, I guess. We can’t change the world without enough humans who are conscious enough and brave enough to identify that a major change needs to happen. But those most conscious are conscious enough to know they should not bring children into this world. Just as those who want power are the last ones who should get power, those who would raise the most conscious children are too conscious to have children in this world.
