Agree, I think other than Karlach, one or two companions should have willing to sacrifice themself too to become mind flayer, notably Lae'zel (if Orpheus is freed). Also, looking at how Minthara said it will be good if we become mind flayer, why she didn't do it by herself? haha 🤣

They all could become a mind flayer, Halsin and Jaheira could too, after all its an illithid tadpole, which is why I assume orpheus is able to, he just uses the tadpole. The gith prince shouldnt have the power to turn people into illithids I would think. It makes less sense for Halsin and Jaheria since they were never infected in the first place, but everyone would be cured afterwards anyway so its really just about who can shoulder the burden of being an illithid afterwards.

@@TjoaJunChoi Minthara just wanted a squidy daddy. When Tav becomes a Flayer he realizes it's only a matter of time till he loses himself to it. Not even the legendary Baldur could resist the twisting of becoming a mindflayer.

​@@unknownvalor9755 That's debatable. The narrator teases this, only to do a 180 and add "Or maybe not. Maybe you'll manage to stay yourself". The game is deliberately leaving it open. It's also debatable what made Balduran turn evil. Could be a mix of having already had some character flaws before transforming, receiving too many illithid characteristics upon transformation (not necessarily becoming more illithid over time, just being like that from the beginning), spending 13 years as a slave of the Absolute being indoctrinated, and/or being disillusioned by its negative experiences as a mind flayer, being frustrated with all the hate it was getting and therefore becoming more bitter and calculating.

@@Mithcoriel No, it is absolutely not open. The narrator is only reflecting what the mindflayer PC is thinking when she says that, not as if it's an option. The PC either is the same person or is not, that is not an RP choice as it is a consequence of a choice. We also do know which it is for Tav/Durge ( I haven't seen what happens with origin Karlach to know for sure, but I assume it's the same). Tav/Durge are gone, and the way you know is simple. Remember, this is not an RP choice, only the way the character interprets it/what the character thinks is. When the PC's romance partner asks if it is still him/her, there are options to suggest it is still the same person; however, this is valid whether the PC is the same person OR if the minflayer simply thinks it, so leaving it there would be unclear. However, there is also the option to say that the old person is gone. This is not something that would be misinterpreted by the PC. This option only makes sense of the mindflayer is a new being, therefore its inclusion makes it clear. Tav/Durge is gone.

She used to breakup with you if you did, but as of Patch 5, she will stay with you, recognizing the sacrifice you made. I romanced her in my most recent run, a Resist Durge, and became the Mind Flayer. She stayed with me

He knows that once Orpheus is freed, he is no longer necessary to defeat the netherbrain and that either Orpheus or the party will surely kill him

@@dymorphadon5293plus, if Orpheus withdraws his protection, he will automatically be enslaved by the brain anyway. It's better for everyone if that happens when he is not standing right next to the party, so the brain can't force the emperor to fight them right away and possibly destroy the one chance of victory.

Because the Emperor's mind works on hard logic. He calculated that taking the risk of freeing an Orpheus that may not being willing to work together and would likely attack us wasn't worth taking. It didn't occur to him that Orpheus could be convinced to help. Adding another variable like a free Orpheus to the plan this late into things also might have made the Emperor dismiss the option.

Throughout the story we see that the Emperor has some faith in the player's ability, knows what we're capable of, and thinks of domination by the Netherbrain as a fate only slightly better than death. Yet free Orpheus at the end of it and suddenly he throws it all away and willingly submits? If he'd just tried to flee at that point and the Netherbrain caught him regardless they could've had the same moment at the final stage, without making the Emperor seem to willingly guarantee himself the second worst fate he'd been avoiding (domination) and still having bad odds at the very worst fate in his mind (death) due to opposing a group of people that would've killed the chosen of at least 2 gods, as well as a powerful devil by now.

They keep adding new endings every once in a while; maybe they'll add an ending where Orpheus and The Emperor work together? That'd be siiiiiiick

@@GT-wj3glthe emperor is a narcissist that cannot handle him not being the one holding the cards. The second you free Orpheus, he contradicts everything he stood for immedimmediately out of spite and sides with the elder brain, even when he sees you as a mind flayer fighting alongside Orpheus he still won’t back down. Fuck that guy.
