Great video. For the stacker logic, i had implemented the similar approach to bypass before seeing your video. I still think we can simplify the logic on the last step, simply repeating the same with an AND gate. I put belt reader on belt, if they send a signal, it means something is coming. So for the last step, if something is coming from both belts, i know stacking must happen.

PINs have kind of been a pain. The task that came down to a three stack of circular shapes with a PIN on top. Basically trial and error.
@ochiniwa3 ай бұрын
Actually with PINs being handled as "normal" shapes, so basically making it a 5th shape, actually did not complicate the MAM. Crystals however are a pain, especially with Pins and Gaps. Working on that, work in progress.

Thank god Pile sorters came out in the last major update and basically made pilers a relic, handy info to know though, good work!

They really over engineered this problem. The simple solution is to just give us faster belts. End game, anything using Hydrogen or Deuterium really needs faster belts.

I fail to see any practical application.
@ochiniwa11 ай бұрын
You fail to see any practical application for the stacker? Well in quite late game, when you basically take 4 stack out of a tower to transform it into another item (like iron ore into iron Ingot), how do you get the full Iron Ingot fast enough back into a tower... well you need to stack them again as the smelter will not stack them.
@K162KingPin11 ай бұрын
@@ochiniwa I build a tower, inport needed construction mats, then set up lines feeding out to machines. I build the line much farther than possibly needed, and then the machines. I would call this a factory. The size of the factory is determined by the maximum length I can get on a line before either one of the production materials is used up completely and no more are making it down the line, or by the output line from is filled leading back to the tower. For most production I get around 15 - 20 machines on a single set of lines. By using all of the 12 ports on the tower, I can get 3 - 4 parallel production lines this way for each component making about 60 - 80 production buildings in each factory. Being able to stack mats won't help this increase. It would simply use up a port that I could have used for an entire parallel production line. So again, I fail to see the point of the stackers.
@ochiniwa11 ай бұрын
Once you start using tech 3 smelters and tech 4 assemblers, their output is so high that only 3-5 of those machines fill one belt. So you end up having one tower with total 12 or 20 machines attached to it. So if you want to increase input you need the automatic pilers to increase the input to match the output. Check out the smelters for Iron, you get 1 belt out with 4 ores, each smelter converts 3 ores into iron ingot per second. Knowing that the belt has a limit of 30 per second you cannot put more than 10 smelters on that belt although the output of that belt is 120, the input is 30... so in order to have 1 belt comingout at 120 and one belt going in with 120, you build 4 belts in (40 smelters in groups of 10) and then stack it to go into the tower. I always use this in very late game to reduce the number of towers and machines. @@K162KingPin
@K162KingPin11 ай бұрын
@@ochiniwa I don't know what to tell you. I have the entire tech tree unlocked and I am just not having this problem. I have large and extremely large factories using a single tower and even then I limit their size 1/2 the time because they are getting too big, not because the belts are overcrowded in any way. If I remember next time I'm playing I'll make some screenshots and post them. Maybe if you see how I am doing it you will notice what you are doing different that causes you to need stackers. Keep using stackers if you like them. Nothing wrong with it. It just seems to make the build much larger than not using them and doesn't seem to have any practical benefit.

I am fine with that :) There is no one way to play the game. We all have our ways @@K162KingPin

FYI for newbies, basically an automatic piler takes a full incoming belt, at 1 per unit, and arranges them into bigger piles. Keep injecting new units onto the belt and the piler makes each pile bigger and bigger. This makes the belt more efficient since it now carries more stuff.
