Made by WILDE, and excellent quality. I own every single size. WILDE recently introduced a 2pc set of mini pry bars too which are also HT rebranded and available at many walmarts ( not in my area yet though). The shanks are actually Mayhew though , and Wilde just makes the handles. BTW these are not actually the only American made tools sold at Walmart , there are some EMPIRE levels rebranded for HART, the HYPER tough plastic tool boxes and plastic " utility boxes " ( Plano ammo boxes ) are American made, there are some Hyper Tough utility knife blades that are American made, an American made razor scraper, I think the hacksaws are as well as the cheap miter saw, and the walmarts in my area carry Swanson speed squares. There used to be more before they dropped Vaughan & Bushnell / Dasco and Channellock when they introduced the HART brand that I refuse to ever ever support, but there is more than most people might realize.

You are correct they are made by wilde tools wt will be on the shaft the company was founded by 2 brothers Paul and Otto froeschl in Kansas city Missouri in 1953 or 54 there was a flood so they move the factory to Hiawatha Kansas I had the pleasure of meeting a relative of theirs in Falls City Nebraska by the name of Eric Froeschl really cool guy gave me some history of the company he worked for the family a bit when he was younger I told him about a pair of Witco pliers I posted on my youtube channel I mentioned the grip tight faster that is apart of the mechanism that holds them together and how it was patd in 1962 he said his great uncle Paul I believe it was ordered a special washer and got the wrong part and they got millions of them so instead of sending them back they made them work and advertised them as grip tite fastening system Eric Stated they really didn't make an improvement in the operation of the pliers but was a great sales pitch really nice people and their pliers and tools are great

@snapringchronicles3020 you're welcome brother that's interesting ws all the ones I've seen was wt I bought one about 6 years ago gave it to my dad haven't seen it since he does excavating so he probably buried it somewhere guaranteed the prybars where made Wilde tools they did a lot of contracts for Craftsman and all sorts of brands especially in the 30s I really appreciate all that you do you are very technical I know I learned a lot from you thanks my friend

I was wrong the flood happened in 1951 and then they moved to Hiawatha Kansas in the facility was done in 1955 sometimes I get my info a little messed up it's been a few months when I done the research and my memory ain't quite what it used to be but I guess I was close they also had a contract during World War II too manufacturer bayonets but that contract ended for why I don't know not much was mentioned about that but I found that interesting

I believe the "D" that precedes the Wizard name on the handle stands for Duro Metal Products (Duro-Indestro). I have a set of old Craftsman ~laminated~ ratcheting double end box wrenches and they have the same D stamped into the wrench...also made by Duro-Indestro I recently picked up a couple old Wizard H2775 3/8 ratchets at a flea market. They work fine but I'm going to disassemble to clean and oil.

Did you actually try to use it to see if it functions properly or not? Many of the cheap tools won't stay aligned properly when put under pressure. That would be an interesting comparison for you to make, especially if you compared them with vise-grip brand.

Cripe distributing on Ebay has the 1/4 and 3/8 for dirt cheap. I bought a few sets of them. They are all old new stock. They will need to be taken down and cleaned and lubed but they are solid workhorse units. You don't need a wimpy 120th ratchet for everything..
@snapringchronicles30206 күн бұрын
Yeah I think that’s where I got them👍
@JohnCorbet-w4g7 күн бұрын
The Mustang ratchets were the roughest of all. I've got a collection of Sparta ratchets from 1/4 to 1/2 and the 3/8 flex-head all with nice polish. But did give away a few that weren't finished as good as the ones I kept. The 1/4 are one of the tiniest ratchets I've seen.
@snapringchronicles30206 күн бұрын
Yeah those Mustang ratchets can be rough.👍
@steveg70007 күн бұрын
Pretty crappy. My one and only Doyle tool. Never again.The clasp that holds the handles together is only held in a shut position by a little lip of plastic that tears immediately. And this has the worst cutting power of any cutter I have used. Even the crummiest tiny screw defeats it. That's because the handles stick straight out rather than taper inwards. Can't get a firm grip with the handles spread so far out.
@snapringchronicles30206 күн бұрын
Thanks for sharing your experience!
@JohnCorbet-w4g8 күн бұрын
Did you know the 1/2 will fit into the 3/8 ratchets BUT they are thicker and there isn't enough room left over to fit the snap ring back in. These also have a smaller head than other round head ratchets and are my go-to for tight spots when you need a 1/2.

Thanks for this video, I just tore down, cleaned and lubricated my old 3/8" drive KAL ratchet using your instructions. Country of origin on mine is Japan. Have been using it since high school when I started wrenching on my first truck. It was given to me by a mechanic for the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) so I do believe this company supplied tools for US Government contracts. If I remember correctly the tools in the shop would be replaced every X number of years with new regardless of wear. He had a garage full of things he had saved from being junked during the normal replacement cycle (I'm sure he wasn't supposed to do that). He got me started with a basic tool kit from these leftovers when I was in high school. I'm still using the same old tools 20+ years later. Anyway, the ratchet was having trouble selecting forward or reverse. Disassembled, cleaned in kerosene, lubricated with light oil, reassembled and the ratchet is back to working great. The 3/8" drive was a single pawl compared to your 1/2" drive dual pawl otherwise the same. Thanks for the video if I hadn't run across it that ratchet would probably be in the trash can.

This ratchet is the only ratchet design that Craftsman currently offers through Sears...All 3 sizes are available except the classic 3/4 drive.....This design is obviously very different from the current Craftsman lineup that you can get at Lowes....These look like they are sourced from the mighty Apex as the date code looks like a Apex code....The Z-AG stands for: Z=some Apex sourced Chinese plant.....AG=2017....So theoretically if these are still being made today in 2025 by the same Apex Chinese manufacturer,the current code would be Z-AO.....But I'm sure you know all of this.😂...It's very sad how the old classic Sears Roebuck &Co Craftsman brand has fallen isn't it as they used to have everything under the sun.?...Good vid.👍

I say shitty engineering and shitty design from a brand name who supposedly cares. So simple to check that fit in quality control or route a little deeper so snap ring fits. When that fails under load you'll smash your knuckles and not get your job done. Shame on Craftsmen
@snapringchronicles302011 күн бұрын
Yeah that’s pretty rough, I don’t know how they missed it.
@ericchase542110 күн бұрын
I believe it to be a rare defect. Sears had a lot of problems in this century. Glad Stanley has done such a good job with the brand.
@kalybnielsen418311 күн бұрын
That's a quality control issue, I've seen it a few times on various makes, once on a Craftsman, a Dremel with a cutoff wheel works wonders, just carefully deepen the groove, takes about 60 seconds
@snapringchronicles302011 күн бұрын
Thanks for the tip! I'll keep that in mind 👍
@rawbacon11 күн бұрын
I can't imagine they were all that way. I think that one is just defective and slipped by quality control.
@snapringchronicles302011 күн бұрын
Yeah that’s probably right. But I imagine that the cut out were not as deep as the old Craftsman’s were.🤔
