Pinterest helps inspire me to style the clothes I already own and I need inspo because I work from home and dont see people out a lot. I have stuff saved based on my personal style. I've always loved 90s, classic, grandmacore?😂, and comfy-oversized-casual.

You’ve inspired me to get Hunter boots! I absolutely loved them when everyone had them like 10 years ago but I never had the chance to buy a pair of branded Hunters. I got off brand ones and never liked them. So now that they’re pretty cheap secondhand I’m going to hopefully find a pair! I’m excited to style them

Very few people wore capes in the 2010's. It was mostly in the alternative space. People tried to make them mainstream, but they never caught on because there's just no utility to such a large piece of clothing

I'm seeing more and more ads on Pinterest too so it's almost more online shopping. I also find it is definitely more fun going to a thrift store and finding your style with what sticks out rather than a catered algorithm. Awesome vid <3

This is why I downloaded an app called ‘Whering’ you basically digitise your wardrobe and make outfits ! It’s my new Pinterest
@sophie___11162 ай бұрын
idk i feel like i’ve done a good job with my feed because it always shows me outfits that i absolutely love and i think are relatively unique. personally i’ve never recreated an outfit exactly, i just save a bunch and when i see that a lot of saved outfits have something in common then i might buy an item like that bc i know that i would like it with several different outfits💙
@sophie___11162 ай бұрын
so i think once you’ve spent some time cultivating your feed it becomes very personalised, i don’t really see any oufit pics on my feed that don’t fit my style. i prefer a more street style look with unique pieces and thankfully i never get the basic beige outfits and things like that
@rockymatthers83632 ай бұрын
I see one creator explore this topic, and then I see you all covering this as well. I agree, but imitation exists everywhere, even when deciphering an issue

I get ur point but i think most ppl that use Pinterest already know/have a good idea of what they’re personal style is and what they like
@ziziisme2 ай бұрын
Also like for me, when I recreate a Pinterest outfit to a T, it’s because I like the outfit to a T, not because im trying to be trendy
@linzmariepatterson2 ай бұрын
For some it’s not the same! We see so much impulsive purchasing still so it’s hard for some to understand what they actually like vs being pressured to buy trendy items
@Yu01i2 ай бұрын
I get your point, social media won't build your personl style but it's a tool that will help u do so, i dont think re creating outfits to a T is that harmful, its okay to explore other ppls styles too! Tho i do think you're putting a lot of pressure on yourself trying to be "unique" in every way, theres nothing wrong with wanting somthing u saw advertised. I think the issue i find with the video is, we're pointing the finger at the wrong target. Its not about pintrest or tiktok or Instagram, its about the person, its up to the individuals to make their own concious choice of weather or not they want to copy an outfit. While yes overconsomption and being a copycat is bad, once again it's the individual, not the app. Its not the fault of the tool but its user.
@linzmariepatterson2 ай бұрын
I think consumerism comes with a lot of weight these days so I’m more speaking to the fact that some apps can aid in that unhealthy consumption
@annaisrandom2 ай бұрын
I think it depends what side of Pinterest you're on fashion wise. Unfortunately Pinterest has been pushing the shopping feature, so we're seeing a lot of the mainstream trends coming through. I.e beige, white and black. Neutrals and boring. That's the real issue. If you're on the more alternative or vintage side of Pinterest, you see way more interesting outfits and inspiration that fuel creativity. Rather than drain it which is what the mainstream, high street and viral outfits and trends do. Just my personal experience.

Love the message. However, I’d personally find your visual content more engaging if you looked into the lens instead of the monitor while filming. By looking into the lens, it feels like you’re talking to me, but when you’re looking slightly to the side, it’s really obvious that you’re just watching yourself in the playback monitor and it’s distracting. I look forward to seeing more content from you! Cheers!!

Ye this is how you know, you arent using pinterest the right way. Pinterest is literally made for everyone individually, it personalizes your page based on stuff YOU originally pinned and interacted with. Its your style but put in a board based off of YOU. If you dont like the stuff you see because it doesnt match with your personal style, you are doing something horribly wrong
@bowardwoward2 ай бұрын
Yes and no! Pinterest's algorithm favours posts with high engagement, so a lot of what we see on there is stuff that's been liked/pinned by hundreds or thousands of other users. This is why we see so many content creators sharing the same inspiration images over and over again. It would be cool if it were actually completely individualized! But at the end of the day, Pinterests wants to keep users engaged (and earning that sweet sweet ad revenue) by pushing content that's already popular.
@nini24882 ай бұрын
@@bowardwoward Then explain to me how i keep getting stuff on pinterest that has 0 likes and 0 commentd despite the comment section being open😭 I dont doubt that others have pinned the posts but its not that it isnt personalized for people, they correspond the posts you pinned with the ones you'll get on your page. Like if you see outfits you dont like, its because you pinned a post that corresponds to the one you dont like
@SocialExperiment2322 ай бұрын
Why does this trigger you so much? Lol pinterest definitely has an algorithm too which is why so many pictures become famous of off pinterest and there’s these pics that everyone has seen. They don’t just make accounts specially for you. You getting a lot of 1 like post? Yes because you interact with them but that doesn’t mean you’re not being shown what the algorithm favors.
@nini24882 ай бұрын
@@SocialExperiment232 Doesnt trigger me much or at all, just explaining the reasonings as to why the person feels so bothered to make an entire video about how it bothers her that an app that is very personalized could be using the app wrong or why she doesnt like pinterest much because she isnt shown stuff she likes. Also im not saying that accounts are specially made for me, just that the main page you are shown is personalized for your likes and wants (for like 90%) and the pins match the ones you have already saved. Ofcourse the algorithm shows what it favours, all platforms work like that.

Some people are easily influenced when it comes to consumerism and don’t know how to think creatively/ form a personal style so it can be damaging when you use it to copy “trendy” outfits

i've never really "recreated" any pinterest outfits but i do have some mood boards of fashion inspiration n stuff. Usually, i just wear whatever i want, what i find pretty and i'm comfortable with and its most of the time not the same clothes as which outfit pics i saved in my board lately. But when i don't have anything to wear and i don't wanna look boring i dress FOR "pinterest girlies" idk how to explain but like i dress for pinterest gitls to think i'm stylish but whenever i do i just feel like its so ugly on me. Its not self-confidence issues its just that its not my personnal style and i don't like it as much as my usual fits but i'm trying to explain the fact that pinterest outfits which contains, usually always the same typa clothes is making you thinking that you like "this cloth" or "this one" when u actually don't, pinterest has just kept influencing you on what IS pretty or what IS NOT, but only you can really know what is or what is not for u. I hope i've been clear. Take care <3

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I will absolutely try your idea of creating an outfit around a favorite piece that’s comfortable for me, rather than copying full outfit ideas. 💕 I am really horrible at fashion, the only nice outfits I can wear is copying the mannequins hahaha. I completely lack creativity. I’m not saying I don’t try; I’m just bad at it, even with tools such as learning about color seasons, silhouettes, textures, ratios, etc. I should focus on finding inspiration for styling the pieces I have. I concur with that. I am guilty of just scrolling and consuming new things because I like the way something looks and want to recreate it, without regard for what I already have. TL;DR: I really need to avoid getting stuck in the rabbit hole of shopping for new items, and instead, find styling inspiration for pieces I already own. :p Currently I do not have a style icon.
