Can't believe it took me so long to become acquainted with Greg Phillinganes!! Ditto Anthony Marinelli, who offers a chorus pedal to Greg!! From the first notes, the chiming sound of the Fender Rhodes is instantly recognizable.

Thriller is a good sounding album, but it's not a GREAT "SOUNDING" album. I'm not referring to the programming or the musicianship, or even the production/mastering, those attributes are of course grade-A.But this album is NOT on audiophile level. While cutting edge for that day, sort of, it's not really exotic programming. The bass sound is very simple. The Linn was only 8 bit and mono so it would have to undergo some processing for it "cut" sonically through such a tonally complex mix. Also, the snare prom triggers 17-millisecond late, and limited quantizing, which gives it that distinctive feel.

There was so much talent and a fight with the technology back then and this is one of the reasons about why this music sounds so great today and the decades to come, i am afraid that most "musicians' of today if they only new the drawbacks of these days they would not even dare to deal with music making. Today so much gear so little quality music out there.

Greg is such a great salesman. "the multiple guitar parts, synth parts, and they all are finally weaved together." He could have so easily ended up working in a home electronics store selling pac-man machines or as a keyboard player on a cruise liner.

I like Rod Tempertons song he wrote for New Edition titled Once in a Lifetime Groove. I think Ralph Tresvant and Michael Jackson have similarities in their vocals and to me Rods writing and production shines masterfully!💯⭐️🎧

Roland D-50 has an unbelievable pipe organ patch complete with FX and all. The Synclavier organ doesn't sound as good, but it is what it is. It's a matter of taste, I guess. To me, personally, Simmons SDS V drums sound far better than any LinnDrum or Roland TR-series. Oh yeah, and the Billy Jean Synclavier bass sound exactly like something that would come out of the DX7, at 1% of the price of the Synclavier. The DX7 used to go for $2,000 on 48th Street, Manhattan, with a 6 month waiting list. The Synclavier could go for as much as $200,000 with memory and hard drives fully expanded. Not sure how long a waiting list.
